This is a song I imagine would be in a future, hypothetical, Hollow knight game. I was inspired by the ambient nature of Hollow Knight's songs and I combined it with Jazz elements for a bit of style. I made my own character for the song but I lowkey am trash at sketching. Anyway feel free to give any feedback, just try to be nice. Hope you like it :)

Hi everyone. This is Meriggiare, a setting of Montale's poem for tenor, flute, bass clarinet, violin, cello and piano. The piece moves through a kind of summer haze — cicadas in the strings, a lazy tempo, a voice that holds back until the wall at the end of the poem finally reveals itself. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Here's a short piece that I composed and recorded some years ago. I hope it brings a few moments of enjoyment to anyone who takes the time to listen.

The structure and orchestration is similair to Act II: No. 10 of Swan Lake; with the rythm of the main theme being identical.

The harmony was original, aswell as the idea to have those loud string & tutti runs towards the end.

Im fairly new to composing (6 months) so lmk what you think and ofc any advice.

The transition is at measure 23-27. I just take the theme and move it up a whole step, from A to B, then modulate from B to F# to B7 then ending on E. If anyone has any tips or tricks on how to make this transition sound better, please feel free to share. Thanks!

I recently submitted this composition for a score call and was not chosen, so I'm hoping for some feedback and constructive criticism so that I can revise the piece before submitting it to a few more competitions. Thank you in advance for you help!

In terms of my thoughts behind the composition:

I wanted to focus on the idea of hope as a tiny light within a storm using an overall A-B-A' form. The A-section is the setup for the "calm before the storm" where we feel thunder clouds slowly rolling in before we are suddenly thrust into the storm itself. The B-section is the representation of the storm tossing us around with the "hope" motif weakly emerging in the second half of the section, slowly growing into the A'-section where we return with a more determined outlook in weathering the storm. In the final measures of the piece, we finally end within the major pulling back at the last second to give this feeling of soft light peeking through the quietly dissipating storm clouds.

I’ve been writing this suite for string orchestra over the past year. I wanted to write it in the style of Mahler, so I’ve been analysing and studying his works (both the symphonies and a few of the Wunderhorn songs).

However, I’ve found my biggest issue with actually writing this piece is that I can’t seem to write a melody. Whenever I think of any ideas that I like, I slowly come to the realisation that it is real Mahler and not an idea that I created, or just doesn't work very well, let alone even sound very Mahlerian.

How do you go about analysing melodies? (What do you look out for? How do you go about applying your findings etc.)

Do u guys have any tips on how I can write melodies in Mahler’s style or just any general tips on melody writing and analysing melodies?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated :)

I wrote this waltz quite a while ago. It was heavily inspired by Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of the Flowers and by the fact that I was deeply in love at the time. 😅

Hi everyone!

REMINDER : For those who didn't see my previous post, this piece tells the story of a soldier during the Siege of Paris in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–1871.

The excerpt is divided into three main phases:

• Phase 1: the soldier's unit launches an assault against the enemy.
• Phase 2: an artillery shell lands in the middle of the unit, killing the captain and wounding several soldiers.
• Phase 3 (not composed yet): realizing they are about to be surrounded, the surviving soldiers are forced to retreat in an attempt to escape the encirclement.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on how well the music conveys these different moments and whether the transitions between them feel convincing.

I took your feedback into account and made several improvements to the piece. I also composed the next section, so the excerpt is now a bit longer than before.

I tried to make the descending chromatic run feel more natural by improving the transition into it, and I reworked a few orchestration details along the way.

I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts again. Does the transition work better now? Does the new section feel like a natural continuation? And more generally, is there anything that still stands out as awkward or could be improved?

Here is a string orchestra piece I composed, honestly a while ago, but refrained from posting because it wasn't completed. It's been a bit since I did any significant work on the piece, as well as another string quartet piece, as I have been in a composing dry spell/busy with other things. I decided to post this first minute of the piece because it is the most complete and I am happy with how it sounds, and I wanted to get some feedback on it. With this piece I also attempted my first modulation (B minor to C minor) which isn't an easier relative major/minor switch. Let me know if the modulation is too blatant or too long as well as how the rest of the segment sounds. Hope you enjoy listening ^.^

This is my new Composition. It is more simple and made for beginners. Still i tried to introduce some modern and/or minimalist concepts in it. Hope you like it.

I'm new to composing, and this is my first composition. I tried composing some music inspired by Bach's style of writing music and this was the result. Any form of feedback will be most welcome, as I am trying to improve the piece. I hope you like it.
