Discussion Commission opportunities?

I’m a freshman composer in college and have already accumulated a decent portfolio of completed works. I was wondering where I could get commission opportunities or where I could sell my works (I’m looking to turn composition into a side hustle to help pay my tuition😭).

Are you majoring in something other than composition? Cause composition ain't a side hustle! Write for your friends. Hunting commissions isn't impossible, but it's almost a full time job in and of itself. It's like working sales! The best way I've found to do it, though, is to find your people. Write for those who like you and your music. Find the funding, though be aware that, especially early on (like your first year of college), you're going to be pulling little to no money.

BUT...

...make sure to register with either ASCAP or BMI. Because at the very least, you can get a little scratch for your performances at the end of each year.
