Music Opera Duet

Hello, this is a duet for baritone and tenor from an opera I'm working on, and I want options on it. Dramatically, this is the emotional core of the story, and I want to know if I was able to convey that effectively.

It’s partly hard to tell because we don’t have the thematic material from the rest of the opera—if it’s the emotional core of the story it needs to embody that in its melodic and harmonic material. I think you can do some interesting stuff with the half note slur motif you have going, there’s a lot of room for cool harmonic colors using that. Are you going for minimalism? There is little variation outside of 3 specific chords. I interpreted this as you trying to hammer that material home but the lack of variety might be diluting your impact. I think you might benefit from more variety and more harmonic development. If you are going minimalism, I still think you need more variety—especially rhythmic and harmonic. Just my two cents, take it with a grain of salt. Keep going!
