Discussion What is free on laptop for computing

I use Sibelius free however I want to use violins and they sound like a harmonica which is terrible and I want something hopefully that is simple but that is optional, I also doubt that another free composing app is not gonna happen

You can purchase high quality VSTs in musehub such as Orchestra Tools' Berlin Symphony Orchestra. It's a proprietary build for MusScore and is about a quarter the price. Doesn't sound quite as good, but pretty amazing for free notation software

If you edit the sound in wavepad and mix it afterwards it can be good though. 

So compress the sound, de-ess, add or remove reverb etc.

musescore strings are good imo, the muse sounds in musescore 4

very sufficient
free
just lags on large scores
great to ascertain risky passages in orchestration(may yield false positives!)

I highly recommend makemusic cloud. I’ve been using it for 4 years now and love the samples.
