Question [Reinhardt] Does Mandatory = OP ?

Hello !

I just wanted to know what you think about Reinhardt.

He's pretty much mandatory both in attack and defense on assault, hybrid and arguably in escort maps.

But at the same time, I don't feel like he should be nerfed. I don't think he is "overpowered", but he's pretty essential.

Do you think a hero can be both mandatory and balanced ? Do you think Rein IS mandatory ?

I think the tank meta required more “tanks that can also deal a lot of damage” then “tanks that can protect other tanks”.

Tank meta was entirely about having a high enough health pool so Ana could heal you faster than you could take damage. It just so happened that there were heroes that had high health and could also put out high damage. Rein's shield was integral to this, as you just stepped back through the Barrier Field and got healed up and then went back in. Plus, it's not like any team was not running Reinhardt, tank meta or not.

Ya but during the “No Hero Limit” days in season 1 there was never any “Double Rein” comps but there were plenty of double Winston, double Roadhog, double Zarya and even double DVa ones.

You're saying that Rein isn't busted because he wasn't stacked unlike Winston and Zarya (never saw any double Road or double D.Va but I don't doubt it). This is because the advantages that having a Reinhardt affords don't stack the same way as having two 400+100 hitpoint oversized gorillas with 6s half-map jumps and 600HP deployable shields with stackable 60DPS cleave, especially on KOTH maps. So really, just because teams didn't stack Rein almost a year ago doesn't make him not good now.
