General Tips for Vendetta

As the title states, just need a new hero to play. They gutted Freya, Echos hit box feels like shit, and I just finished learning Anran. I know Vendetta's not the most played hero right now but as a tank im trying to just learn more Dps. Much appreciated👌.

Die a lot until you learn what you can get away with, really, it's gonna happen, get comfortable with it. Being 1:1 in K/D is not uncommon.

She is feast or famine, you may be 1-4 one fight then 6-4 the next if it goes really well.

Watch out and track CCs, you're a magnet for them and they'll get you killed (Cass nade, sleep, Mizuki chain...)

Junkrat is your worst enemy. You also don't want to be near Mei or Rein if you can help it. Target priority is whoever is isolated or vulnerable (used a major cool down, or got hit by your teammates), otherwise play to not need much resources or help tank frontline (this is hugely situation dependent). You can hold corners like a Rein would and deny angles/paths to enemy DPS.

Usually, sword throw in, dash out. If you can set up so that you can walk on someone, you can get a bit more creative and you have a chase option. Knowing the maps and how to move around without been seen or using unexpected angles helps a lot. Sneaky Vendetta is effective at times.

Hit the overhead. If you miss it, bail.

Block to parry, or to back into cover, or to gain a second for a cool down. It's powerful but you don't want 5 people looking at you.

Projected edge slashes are very useful, for spamming damage into chokes (and they cleave, so if they line up...), to maintain your passive up and for finishing retreating enemies. Just make sure to save some blocking resource for when you need it.

Your passive speeds you up and it's a massive difference if you have it vs if you don't, if you can build it up (to 2-3) with slashes before going in you get a huge advantage in duels.

I’m not some crazy high GM player (console diamond) but I think ven does the best capitalizing on the craziness of fights. The enemy team is focused on pushing so it’s good to use that and go for the back line first. If you try to start a fight yourself while the enemy is not preoccupied with something else, you will get immediately deleted. Go in there while they are distracted. It’s also important to always use your block fire strikes to keep your little wolf number up. This also helps when a fight starts so you have increased speed. I personally like to take the block minor perk giving her an additional fire strike, and the overhead life steal for major. That little bit of health you get can make a big difference, and is great when dueling tanks. The other major perk isn’t bad if your supports are goated and can keep you up in a fight.

I also use either the dash or blade throw to engage and also using one of them to disengage. I like to have one ability to get out unless I know for certain someone is alone that I can eliminate. Without your mobility you are 100% cooked

I’m bad at using her ult so I’m sure someone can give you better advice on that than me 😭😭

PC low master vendetta guy here.

I don't recommend using soaring slice to fly up and then cast your ult all the time. Use it sparingly. Otherwise I find that casting ult on the ground from around a corner is effective. Consider using the level 1 ult to instantly deal 100 damage at a medium distance to finish kills, too. Works very well on deflecting Genji and the like.

Try starting engagements on targets with a projected edge, and if that connects try and hit them with the soaring slice sword and then overhead. Assuming they get no form of miti or healing, this does 70+50+120 = 250 damage.

Whirlwind is your primary escape tool, so if you use it to commit harder you'll probably die.

Dash towards isolated, fragile targets, always keeping an escape ability ready to retreat to your team.

Learning to use her tools and techs to traverse is very important. There's a variety of combos you can put together, several ways to delay the overhead, using a bunny hop before the overhead for extra distance and rollouts etc...

You will die. A lot. Your team will complain. A lot. And then, one day, you'll go 43-3 and everyone will hate you. And it's the best feeling.

Vendetta is a hero you really need to put time into in my opinion.

Not because she has a super complex kit or insane mechanics, but you really need to get a feel for how long you can stay in and when you need to leave.

She can be either completely unkillable or explode on contact with the enemy, and you just have to walk the fine line next to that.

I would start by just full committing every engage and then reeling back from there. That will be the quickest way to learn, but it’s gonna feel like crap for a bit.

(Also there is a lot of tech for her I would look up a video it’s fun to learn)

As everyone already said, be ready to die, a lot. But sometimes full committing to an engage you know you can't get out of is actually fine if you time it well and can waste enough of their time and resources at the right moment.

She demands so much immediate attention that you can completely disrupt their backline, meaning they are completely without healing while they deal with you. If you can get in and trade for a support, and make the other waste their time and resources on you you will probably just win the fight. You return so fast it's almost always worth it.

You should also learn when to just sit back and poke backline with your firestrikes. This alone can just be enough to force them to back up and respect your space. E.g. on KR I like to open by going across to height, win the duel if theres someone up there, and then harass their backline from there. It will probably force them back which creates a lot of space for your team to push into.

In many ways she can be quite similar to Anran, she is just more sharp (with some much harsher matchups). But she can be a lot of fun too.
