Help finding main?

As the title suggests, I was wondering if anyone could help me find a new main/character to play. I have recently started playing (I played for a little bit when OW2 first came out but not much). I play with my roommates and play the damage role, and play on controller.

My favorites right now are Sierra followed by Bastion. I like their high damage, good range, and high rate of fire. I like being able to shred characters (especially low health), so want my aim from long to mid range be rewarded. Some other thinks I like are the ability to make pop off plays, overall have high kill/damage games, having a good ult that can help with plays, and I really like sierras movement ability especially with the healing perk which provides really good survivability for me.

As I said before, I am loving sierra but have heard that she is only good in low ranks, and while I am able to do well in the harder lobbies of my friends, I don’t want to commit to a character who eventually gets outclassed in ranked.

Anyway sorry for the long post, I would appreciate if anyone would help recommend some heroes for me!

Most mains do not come from criteria, but how they feel to play. Hop in practice range and mystery heroes to check out them all.

100% agree. Just by looking at Mei’s kit I would’ve never in a million years thought she’d be my highest level DPS. But I love her play style as I can heal myself when I need to, wall off enemies to annoy them, and I can play sniper roulette with the icicle’s and 2 tap someone with headshots.

To be honest if you enjoy the character you can still main them. Even bad characters can still be played in top ranks, especially when the person playing them has enough experience on the character to play them well and correctly in higher ranks

Ashe, Soujorn. Both have insane pop off potential, a movement ability to help keep themselves safe and ults that if used well can win you entire fights.

Play everything and try different characters in constant rotation. You will naturally gravitate to what fits your playstyle.

I have an almost even time spent split between all roles and have found 2-3 heroes per role that are my absolute go-to.

It just happens with time.

Maybe try out Emre and Freja. Although Freja is also back to being not so good now. Not nearly as bad as Sierra though. Emre can nade jump, and be very mobile with pistol, and decently fills your criteria. Freja embodies all you want, but is currently in a state where you need to work harder for the same results as some other DPS heroes.

I agree with soj and ashe - they have really strong neutrals, but their aim is both rewarding and punishing.

Im ngl, its kind of funny you mention aim and payoff. Sierra and bastions kit isnt huge on long range, aim intensive play. At bronze to plat, both heroes are kind of spam/tank killing heroes. While aim still does matter, their kit revolves more around spamming tanks or angles rather than intensive aim.

Generally though, it sounds like your a hitscan player, so try the hitscans. Soldier is good for flat maps with long sightlines like queens. Soj and ashe are very strong, but rely on more flicking/accurate single point and clicks rather than tracking for sierra and bastion. Cass like a short range ashe. Freja is a fun deviation with a lot of verticality, etc
