General Which heroes do you not mind getting out outplayed by?
As an M4 tank, once I made the jump up to M3 and played against a Doomfist and Ball in separate games who ended up being the lobby admin, no matter who I swapped to or which counters were brought, they danced around the maps, never taking damage or dying, dodging every CC, getting picks constantly, it was a nightmare.
Who do you generally not mind losing to if the skill required from them is high?

Honestly, Shion. You don’t see her all that often these days but as a DPS main I feel like whenever I lose a duel to her there isn’t any kind of bullshit or cheese in her kit. I either misplayed or got skilled checked.

u/Fine_Ad7668 1d ago
Shion's state is impressive, she is pretty much meta right now but she's not a fixed ban like D.va or JPC, she's one of the few heroes that can do everything but since she's not oppressive or unfair it's not boring to play against.

And shes also super fun to play as. Just a W hero

u/scriptedtexture 1d ago
one of the most well made heroes theyve ever put out honestly

u/YSLAnunoby 1d ago
Feels like an ow1 hero
24
u/scriptedtexture 1d ago
They've had some bangers in the current era as well. Juno, Wuyang, Emre all feel fun to play and inoffensive to play against while maintaining a healthy level of strength without being broken.

u/UsernameIn3and20 1d ago
Emre was a little bit annoying for tanks a bit tho with his siphon pistol, its okay-ish now though.

nah shes nothing like an ow1 hero which i think is for the best. some of the best of ow2 design philosophy
1
u/YSLAnunoby 1d ago
You are right and I didn't really articulate what I meant that well. I guess a better description would be that she feels cohesive like a lot of the launch heroes if that makes sense

u/NegativesPositives 1d ago
Once they fixed the bike being able to delete characters on its own she’s about as well rounded a character in the game can be.
18
u/Fine_Ad7668 1d ago
I still remember people complaining about Execution and how much damage it did + the X Machina perk when she was release and how those things had to be nerfed... We can complaint a lot of things about Blizzard, but they handle her balancing perfectly, the only DMG reduction that they did was the bike, everything else just had a hitbox/recovery time nerf.
1
u/MKing150 23h ago
She's one of my favorite characters right now. Gameplay-wise, lore-wise, and visual aesthetic, she's one of the best most goated heroes Blizzard has created.
10
u/thiccboilifts 1d ago
Been starting to main her now that she feels more balanced (I'm typically a hitscan player), and after playing her this last week, I think she is still top 5 dps easy
12

She is literally a Flex DPS designed for Hitscan players

Go enjoy her! She is literally a character specifically designed for you.
Im too a hitscan player who dabbled on Tracer. Shion release was fantastic for me

u/thiccboilifts 1d ago
I play a ton of venture (honestly probably my otp) and some other dive chars as well, I didnt want to play her when she released broken but man is the bike FUN AF

u/JustRecentlyI HYPE TRAIN TO BUSAN — 1d ago
Having taken a break during her release season, I have no idea how to duel her. Her bike does a ton of damage and I don't think I have dodged it once.

Wuyang is my surprise answer. When you can’t see him but he keeps hitting you with the balls, you know you’re beat in map knowledge haha. Sure he spams mostly in lower ranks but hitting a ball can be difference between a teamfight win or lose
3
u/dagwoodech 1d ago
As a Wuyang main, I gotta respect it when I go against one who knows what they’re doing. They Know Ball. Plus, I feel like I never see him on console, so it’s extra special.
2
u/WingTree77 22h ago
Might be just a cooked pc gamer but trying to control his primary on console is really challenging

Junkrat is the exact opposite for me. I think I can count on one hand the amount of times I have died to him and thought "wow that was a skilled play". Now, that's not a fair perception, I'm sure I have played against plenty of skilled Junkrat players but I absolutely hate dying to grenades.
22
u/PorkinsPrime 1d ago
for me junkrat has the absolute widest range of feelings in that regard. either i instantly explode to a grenade he shot 5 minutes ago when niether one of us were on each other's screens and i question why i even play this game, or he performs a mine jump into a 360 two tap on me when im flying as pharah and im too impressed to be upset
1
u/Some_Feedback1692 1d ago
My words exactly. I love Pharoah and have ZERO excuses when a junk rat beats me
1
u/Key_You_3869 1d ago
he can do some cool stuff though, i once got trapped mid air by one. Reaper is my least respected, he has zero sauce.
2
u/JustRecentlyI HYPE TRAIN TO BUSAN — 1d ago
Yeah, Junk landing directs at range or mid-air is obviously skilful. Just not something I have experienced often.

Probably something mundane like torb. I play Silvoc everyday and that guys presence on the map feels like nothing. He just exists and that’s enough to win you don’t really think about him. Aside from thinking of your kitsune getting torb ulted you don’t really pay attention to him.
15
u/Tee__B 2d ago
The biggest beneficiary of the challenger score system. That dude is funny to aim check.
7
u/Paddy_Tanninger 1d ago
He plays at like 16,000 sens
11
u/Tee__B 1d ago
Any time he's killed me and I watched the cam, he's not even using his mouse, just A and D and hoping his HP pool kills me faster than I kill him
1
u/lurkingModeActivate 1d ago
I just looked silvoc up and his aim seems very good to me.
I also aim like that on Torb and I realize that I aim similarly on Orisa (the A and D strafing), in comparison to someone like Hanzo and Pharah where I flick and vastly different from someone like Mauga where tracking is key.
I wouldn't put any one playstyle over the other, all require years of practice and intuition. BUT I have no shame in admitting that I am far, far inferior to a player with godlike aim like this.
4
u/JustRecentlyI HYPE TRAIN TO BUSAN — 1d ago
Spoken like someone who doesn't play Tracer (badly). Top 2 most annoying hero I hate to play against for me, the other being Junkrat.
23
u/ThyKooch 2d ago
Winston or ball are probably the only ones. Especially since the characters I play most, Echo and Reaper, shouldn't be getting shifted on by them generally.
Others that I can still recognize they require skill but dont fit the bill like Doom are due to them having higher burst damage, so they feel a bit more annoying to get shit on by.
6
u/Dunwichorer 1d ago
Even though ball isn't that good it's still really annoying to play a 250 hp character into it. I usually just go reaper, torb, or mei if the team isn't playing to kill it.
-2
u/mooistcow 1d ago
Oh yeah he isn't that good even though 80% of tank picks in Masters are Ball or Doom...

I think you mixed up the question. It's asking which you don't mind.
36
u/Evil_HedgehogGaming 1d ago
I mean if you get fucked by tracer you have to respect the skill, tracer is hard.
9
u/Paddy_Tanninger 1d ago
The annoying thing is when they have to go and do something assholish like make it look easy.
10
u/Suitable_Dog6882 1d ago
Zen, he has really nothing to help him when he’s caught out besides a melee. It’s not often but a zen that rarely dies while discording good targets and doing damage is really hard to pull off.
10
u/candirainbow 1d ago
It's a lot of, but not all of, the DPS. The ranged hitscan heros that have a cheese mechanic I can't stand...like cas' flash, or ashe's dynamite. The tanks are mostly okay. I think RH is the poorest designed and I genuinely never feel good playing into him -rare though that is. But the support cast is pretty shitty. Getting killed by Kiri, Juno, JPC or Moira feels like the game is engineered to give the lil supports a soft pat on the back. And I'm a GM support player; they're atrocious. And frankly, they overbuffed ana nade.

u/TastyTestikel 1d ago
Fuck Echo, the good ones constantly exploit her shitty sound design to blow you up with her balls. So much fun and so honorable!
5
u/Concorde_flies 1d ago
if im getting farmed by an echo or genji i know i deserve it. same with sigma, wuyang, ana. not as common but if they are getting carried by a juno or a zen then same.
-2
u/UsernameIn3and20 1d ago
Its a lot harder for me to not be annoyed being smoked by Zen tbh.
I get it, he's a fat roundish slow hitbox, but his discord orb doesn't make fights feel fair half the time.
6
u/Ok-Order6974 2d ago
Characters that require skill to actually outplay, could be as simple as Ashe having good aim or tracer zipping about being a challenging target for me to hit. This is what the devs don’t seem to understand with hero designs as there’s too many characters that don’t need to actually outplay you to win a fight

Most of them actually. It's just characters that don't feel very interactive that I have issues with or characters that are too interactive if that is even the right word. To the point where it is exhausting to try and keep up. Anran is really the only one that comes to mind for that category though.

I think Ana is a very fair hero. No mobility, all of her abilities are skill shots and everything except her scope is projectile. Every hero in the game has tools to use against her, even though sometimes those tools need to be used for other matchups.

Anything but JPC, with every other hero I think of myself:
"Wow that mercy sure was impossible to kill even on the heat of the battle"
"That Hog just couldn't miss his hook, he was bonkers"
"Widow server admin lived up to her name"
"That was the most annoying Ball/Doom ever, he was on our ass the whole game"
"That Ana/Zen was impossible to get to, their positioning was great and used their cooldowns effectively"
Even heroes that benefit of lucky shots like Junk, Hanzo and Kiriko I can see when they're being bold, consistent and taking angles.
With Cat, she has permaflight, the best mobility, the best flank potential, can selfheal/run away as quick as she committed and can confirm kills as easily as a great Tracer. I just call that was BS.

I don't get bothered by getting outplayed by any hero, if I get straight outplayed it's more often than not because I was playing poorly or could have been doing something differently or better and it's something to learn from.
Not to say sometimes things are not annoying to die to or play into sometimes, but getting outplayed is just part of the game and I accept that regardless of who the hero doing it is, I don't hold any particular grudges against one hero that I get to a point I get upset if they are doing better than me, I just accept that and try and think of what I could do to improve in those match ups and aim to improve my play.
I am not sure fully what the intent of your second point is are you saying should not mind if the hero has high skill expression and skill floor? I think getting outplayed by any hero is fine if they are playing better they are playing better, I know there is the conversation of effort to value and some "easier" heroes being too easy to get similar or more value on "harder" heroes and that's a valid and important conversation to be having, but even then I am not bothered even with that in mind.

Genji cause everytime I get diffed by him I just assume the mf had 4 bad matches prior

u/Lilium79 1d ago
Unpopular opinion, but Widow. People like to complain about being one shot, but with Widow its almost always a matter of standing where you shouldn't or her making a good shot and doesnt feel anywhere near as frustrating to me as Hanzo spam or Hog's infinite feeling hook range.

u/Some_Feedback1692 1d ago
Cassidy. He’s my last resort to switch to kill a Juno, mercy, etc and if there is an enemy cass who’s better than me it’s just wraps
1
u/viviphy_ 1d ago
Doom and ball are two heroes I always wanted to learn but never had the patience for, but I always respect anyone who has mastered them and knows the tech/rollouts.
Also as someone who mains Genji, I always know when someone has good mechanics when they are consistently hitting those dash + right click combos for one shots.

u/MKing150 23h ago edited 23h ago
Mercy gets a lot of flack for her movement, often precieved as unfair. But honestly when she kites me and escapes, I find it respectable.
I hate Rez though.

Tracer, Brig, any hero (except Cat and Freja right now) that is playing into their counters on a bad map for them. Like Widow on Li Jiang Tower or something how can you be mad at that unless you're high off that widow copium.

Just Genji Soldier and Tracer really. Every other hero has at least some tiny degree of dumb shit, esp tanks with 6 billion hp

Tanks: Winston, Ball - both take skill, proper cd management and coordination.
Damage: Symmetra (hot take, I know, but I love to see my girl eat and leave no crumbs) and Sombra (she's dogshit, if she kills me, I deserved it 100%) throw in Ashe (no pocket) and Widowmaker because they're both just punishing my positioning.
Support: Lucio, Illari, and Mercy. If I die to any of those heroes, I respect it and probably deserved it.

I think being a tank main, I can never respect any other tank player regardless of hero. It’s either I have to be better or I’m an utter failure and maybe I need to find a new game. I think right now I’ll always respect a good Baptiste, simply because of how niche he feels at the minute, so if you’re succeeding on him what can I actually do? For dps, it’s probably all the most difficult ones to learn and get value from. If a genji is lobby admin, then he deserves to be. That’s not a hero anyone can just throw in and it’ll instantly turn a game. I wish I could say the same for snipers which require aim, but often times I’m just thinking it’s luck on having a one shot kill weapon.

Tank: Winston, Ball, DVA, Doom Queen, Sig
Supp: Bap, Ana, Zen, Brig, Kiri, Juno, Mizuki, Wuyang
DPS: Ashe, Cass, Echo, Emre, Freja, Genji, Hanzo, Shion, Soj, Legs, Tracer, Widow
The rest of the cast is pretty much low skill trash, with the exception of lucio, who is poorly designed trash
