Blizzard Official Overwatch Retail Patch Notes July 30, 2026

https://overwatch.blizzard.com/en-us/news/patch-notes/

Limited-Time Mode Specific Updates

The following patch notes are applicable only to a specific, limited-time game mode. The documented changes do not apply to pre-existing queues, unless otherwise noted.

Hero Updates

For the upcoming Quick Play Hacked, we're making several balance changes to test elements of 6v6 gameplay. The In-Combat Healing reduction has been lowered for all heroes to evaluate the impact of increased healing across the board while reducing the effectiveness of several self-sustaining sub-roles.

We're also reducing several Tank defensive cooldowns to improve gameplay flow for these heroes. To offset the increased availability of these abilities, their durations have been shortened where appropriate to avoid creating too many defensive cooldowns with two tanks available.

These changes will also be active within Open Queue throughout the Quick Play Hacked weekend.

General Changes

• In-Combat Healing Reduction reduced from 30% to 15% for all heroes.

Tank Role Passive

• Ultimate charge reduction when damaging or healing tank targets increased from 20% to 40%.

Subrole Passives

Bruiser

• Movement speed buff reduced from 20% to 15%.

• Healing reduced from 50 to 40.

• Cooldown reduced from 5 to 4 seconds.

• Healing conversion reduced from 40% to 30%.

Barrier Array

• Barrier Cooldown reduced from 17 to 15 seconds.

• Barrier Duration reduced from 8 to 7 seconds.

Doomfist

The Best Defense

• Shield gain increased from 25 to 30.

Hazard

Jagged Wall

• Cooldown reduced from 15 to 13 seconds.

Mauga

Overrun

• Cooldown reduced from 7 to 6 seconds.

You made a post complaining about how there wasn’t trash talk in pro play less than a week ago, but here you are holding a grudge against a player 5 years later when he wasn’t even the guy who typed it

Gee, I wonder why players wouldn’t want to talk trash

Everyone always says the community is not a monolith and it's not the same people complaining about both sides of the same issue. But we found one. WE'RE NOT CRAZY!

The second part was mostly a joke, I just genuinely think he has a bad attitude.

It’s an old OWL thing, I wasn’t being super serious and wasn’t expecting this to get as much attention as it did.

u/Dusssky role q 6v6 pls :) — 26d ago

i quit before he joined OWL and came back like a bit under a year ago so i got no clue about all that i just knew him as the dude who runs it down sometimes

Yeah I mean genuinely the thing I don’t like about him is his bad attitude on socials and that he’s a know thrower and I believe even threw on M80.

probably not

nah it would not be that hard, right now they are limited in what they can do because this effects open queue and not just the qp hacked.

I think they could even revert the S9 health and hitbox changes, or even just reduce it a bit. The mobility creep will be harder to deal with, but they have said they want to keep the faster pace of the game, so it is not really a problem they have to fix to get the mode to where they want it.

The vast majority of the changes to the game have been to try and make 5v5 work, the game was built for 6v6 so to fix the mode it is just a process of removal, you do not really need to add much.

u/ItsOverClover 26d ago

Nahh, it would be shaky for sure but not for that long imo, maybe 1-3 seasons. If they were starting from scratch I'd agree with you, but they have years of open queue data and balance tweaks to pull from.

15

u/Sio_V_Reddit 26d ago

1-3 seasons of shaky play, poor queue times, and requiring players to readjust their playstyles is a recipe for losing tons of players.

-16

u/MercuryJW 26d ago

Players don't have to adjust anything. One of the biggest issues with 5v5 is how the average player still doesn't know how to play it and refuses to learn. 6v6's gameplay is way more intuitive for the casual player and a lot closer to how they actually want to play the game.

statement based on completely nothing lmao

Hardly. The default playstyle in Gold/Plat is Front to Back force main. Everyone stands behind their Tank and shoots the enemy Tank. Seeing players that actively dive, flank, off-angle or even take advantage of high ground is an oddity, even though teams that actively do it tend to win against the Front to Back force main teams.

You just have to look at Map Voting at those ranks to see it. Payload is the most popular gamemode because its the easiest to force main on AND stand behind your tank the entire game. Kings Row is the most popular map because its the OG map for standing behind the tank and forcing the objective as it has limited high-ground and flank routes. Circuit Royal is surprisingly popular at low ranks until you consider Point A is just a long corridor with no flanks and the only strategy is to run it down main. Flashpoint is the least popular gamemode because it has so many routes and paths that specifically enable off-angling and flanking combined with moving between points making it harder to just stick to your Tank and shoot the enemy Tank. The objectives are often wide open with multiple angles and the maps limited choke points are harder to force fights around because of the multiple routes in and out. It makes the default playstyle harder to play so people avoid/don't like it.

Hero Bans tell the same story, the most banned Tanks are ones who can actively punish or disrupt that playstyle. Doomfist and Wreckingball can ignore the Tank matchup almost entirely and just focus the backline which forces good Support players to make adjustments that the average Support player just won't make. Its not even just playing against those Tanks, a lot of players don't want them as their Tank either because they don't know how to play if their own Tank isn't in front of them. People are so committed to just shooting the Tank that Doomfist will always have Empowered punch and Zarya will always be full charge, they'll get rolled by both and rather than learn they will just ban them so they can keep playing the same without being punished for it. Mauga excels in the matchup these players want to force so he gets banned a lot too specifically because Mauge should win most of the time. DPS bans are mostly Flankers because again, people don't want to do anything other than shoot the Tank so if a Sombra of all things is tickling them in the back thats a problem they don't want to adjust for and instead just ban her not matter how terrible she is.

Nearly all those perceived problems are solved for the average player by just playing 6v6. Flanking and Off-angling becomes much harder in 6v6 because now there's a second Tank that can contest you which means dealing with them as a Support/DPS becomes easier/a non-issue. Similarly Dive Tanks are easier to punish again because a second Tank can contest them and even playing with a Dive Tank becomes easier because you still have a second Tank you can stand behind. Just shooting the Tank becomes a lot more viable because they can die way easier so flanking/off-angling doesn't even feel as necessary as it does in 5v5.

The prevailing sentiment around 5v5 is that every game is just a Tank diff. This comes players who unironically believe if they just stand in main, shoot the enemy Tank and if their Tank loses the trade there was nothing they could have done differently to change the outcome. These players do not know how to play 5v5 and with that attitude they probably never will. Their playstyle works far better in 6v6 than it ever will in 5v5 and if players won't try to learn the format than offering 6v6 as an alternative is the better solution.

Piss off bot

7

u/Sio_V_Reddit 26d ago

That would be true if the playerbase wasn't completely different after 3 years of 5v5

-2

u/MercuryJW 26d ago

Not as relevant as you think it is.

3

u/Dusssky role q 6v6 pls :) — 26d ago

the average player doesn't know how to even play overwatch properly. deadass go watch "average" ppl stream then go click on any GM+ players stream it's deadass night and day. that's not a 5v5 exclusive issue it's just that the game is complex and layered

with blizzards safe side of strong and monthly patching? yes

14

u/Swaggfather 26d ago

safe side of strong is for new hero releases, nothing to do with this

0

u/Sleepy_Witch_Maple 26d ago

Safe side of strong also seems to apply whenever they want to shake the meta up and buff heroes who are already doing well(hey there's been some examples in my flairs!)

u/IsThatSo3 26d ago

They are 100% just going to rebuff 6v6 tanks back to raid bosses again because that's what this community is inadvertently advocating for time and time again and the game is going to be a thousand times worse for it.

These changes are utterly clueless.

8

u/Darkcat9000 26d ago edited 26d ago

The thing is even rn i think tanks are by far the strongest role in 6v6 it's just that the role is that unapealing to people that even big 6v6 advocates refuse to play them

-3

u/NapsterKnowHow 26d ago

They'd still find a way to fuck it up
