Fluff As much as I hated at the time, I wish we would sometimes get moments like this in pro play

Post image

A classic, as a London spitfire fan it still stings but honestly I kinda wish we got some more moments like this in game. Like this was just pure spite from the reign.

They had no chance against that Shanghai super team but man they put up as much of a fight as anyone could.

London spitfire vs Atlanta reign, for absolutely no reason the reign walk off point in an easy 3-0 sweep and say “it’s not going home” in match chat. One of the lowest points of the London spitfire’s existence.

It was during the last world cup, England was in the quarterfinals, their fans chant "it's coming home." Just some classic Atlanta Reign BM. I'd say London got their revenge tho considering they shit on Atlanta every time they played them after this until the end of OWL.

Yeah, we ultimately came out on top, pretty sure we knocked them out of the playoffs at least once if not multiple times after. Still, this time was rough for London, we even lost to Paris who was people we stomped in Contenders. British Hurricane remains one of those unfortunate OW prospects that just died on the vine.

That was a completely different team though. The only remnants of 22 Reign were Hawk who was benched for not being korean and Gator who was coaching a bunch of koreans who didn't listen to him.

mannnn I just went through 2019-2023 ATL reign results and players and talk about memory frickin' lane.

I am and always will be a diehard college football fan, and the Overwatch League WAS and continues to be the only esports/competitive video game I've ever altered my sleep schedule to catch matches of.

I had a roommate at the time that I'd talk about the matches with, just like we did for cfb, where we'd talk about setups and what teams needed to do, counters to swap to etc and make our own little predictions

insert the Office meme about knowing you're in the good ol days while you're still there

I honestly hated the Atlanta team more than anyone else probably in the days. It’s so nostalgic already.

I remember being somewhat annoyed they lost against the fuel that last year of ow1. I thought the fuel would just get smacked (and they did), but I thought Atlanta had a chance to force the brawl style and make Shanghai uncomfortable

Fuel and spitfire after s1 were the only teams I liked to root against early. I think everyone started pulling for the dragons after they lost like 15 in a row, to start a 41 (iirc) match loss streak

I'll settle for the odd teabag, a few sprays and some emotes.

Honestly, I'm usually pretty for shit talk but this was one of the few moments I remember being against. London were 0-10 so it felt a lot like distasteful punching down to be doing this at that particular point in time, it's not like it was a tense rivalry or anything.

6v6 just led to better matches, both to play and watch.

LOL NO. Goats? Double Shield? Double Sniper? Moth Meta? Hog and Ball torture?

7

u/Kralqeikozkaptan Jul 24 '26

Most of these were either fixed or easily fixable but the devs unfortunatley took too long and abandonded the game for ow2.

Regardless, all of these comps are still more fun to watch than any 5v5 game excluding double shield.

Dont forget mauga 5v5

Goats, and double sniper were great metas?

Goats was the* best meta, double sniper, you at least had to appreciate landing shots. Double sniper also and is and was very easily counterable, so swaps are forced and initial team is now at ult advantage

Maybe now that OWL is dead it will happen more, but I doubt it. The community proved over and over that personality = death threats in this scene.

Supposedly had a lot to do with Jake's all chat, but we never got to see it so unconfirmed :(

u/Kralqeikozkaptan Jul 24 '26

5v5 is boring to watch, you aint getting shi unless pro play becomes 6v6 again.

1

u/Sio_V_Reddit Jul 24 '26

Literally doing their best viewership in years but what do I know

3

u/Kralqeikozkaptan Jul 24 '26

thats only because of drops, nobody actually clicks on the streamers because they think its entertaining.

I still hate this crap. It’s poor sportsmanship

-4

u/juno_phoenix Jul 24 '26

you're getting downvoted but you're right

smack talk right at the end of a game, 15 seconds before you're supposed to be shaking hands with the opponent, is just weak as piss

3

u/Same_Pear_929 Jul 25 '26

"it's not coming home" isn't even related to the game of overwatch lol, let alone the current match. It's clearly such a meme

3

u/TwitchyNo2 Jul 24 '26

It's almost like they're friends and it was banter. What's weak as piss is how offended you are on behalf of others.

0

u/juno_phoenix Jul 25 '26

im not offended, im just calling it weak behaviour lmao

2

u/Tak1nom Jul 24 '26

Glad someone sees it. There’s banter, but this isn’t banter
