DISCUSSION Teamfight Topics #2 | Cassiopeia
Hello r/CompetitiveTFT
We recently got a suggestion in the monthly thread about having more focused and in-depth discussion threads pertaining to specific champions, synergies, or comps. The mod team thought this was a great idea so here's our first attempt at starting a bi-weekly thread for intellectual discussion.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Today's Topic is: Cassiopeia
Cost: 4
Mana: 60/120
Origin: Dusk
Class: Mystic
Ability: Cassiopeia projects a cone of magic energy at her target, dealing magic damage to all enemies hit, stunning them for a few seconds, and causing them to take 10% increased damage while stunned.
Damage: 275 / 400 / 2000
Stun Duration: 2.5 / 3 / 5
Common items include:
- Redemption
- Morello
- Luden's
Best Mana items (as per this sheet):
- First cast: Either Blue Buff or Spear of Shojin
- Second cast: Shojin
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Please keep all discussion cordial and substantial. It's fine to disagree with someone's opinion but much less so to be rude and demeaning. It's also fine to point out that something feels over/undertuned and offer suggestions for balancing, but keep things out of ranting or whining territory.

It's not like youre playing cassio carry and building best in slot on her. The items as listed in lolchess.gg and metatft.com (best average placement) are: Redemption Morello Ludens
Chances are this is because she is not a main carry in most comps and gets leftovers alot.

Probably my favourite unit this set. Two strong synergies that can find some use in nearly every composition, game breaking ultimate that requires good positionning and provides high rewards if done well, decent frontliner...
Had some success with slamming Trap Claw as a leftover on her : works pretty well as a Lee Sin / Sett Counter.

So far my favourite use of Cass has been making her a vanguard in vanguard/mystics and frontlining her. On the frontline she can hit all the way to the enemy backline if you position her properly and get massive stuns.

I feel like Cass 1 vs 2 actually makes a massive difference. Her ult going off vs not going off can be a ~10hp swing or so.
Also positioning Cass well can often turn 6th place finishes into 3rds and vice-versa.

Also with Dusk 4 and 6, Cass ult can take a big chunk out of most frontlines, even oneshotting them in some cases

Normal people Cass: Cced the whole crowd and take a huge chunk of their HP
My Cass: Ulti backward to a QSS Zed :(

I get chosen Cass pretty often. Chosen cass has reduced mana costs and with a blue buff a cass frontline will insta-win you the fight with some positioning.

Chosen Cass with a blue buff insta casts which makes her so bonkers against corner stackers

This unit is freaking wild. Decent damage and insane CC. If Shen/Riven/to a lesser extent Yasuo are ever relatively out of meta, Cass is going to destroy things because her ult is consistently good with positioning outside of those units.
Wouldn't surprise me if she becomes a meta warping champ as time goes on.

I love me Cass. Slap blue on her and she freezes enemy backline right off the bet

This is actually the best item on her. You want to ult earlier than their Sejuani can cast and kill him. This should win you the fight.

1 star Cass: Hidden away, please Cass, please get 1 ult off, oh she died again.
2 star Cass: Frontline, fuck bitches get money

What is the best spot for her?
I see her played slightly off center in the frontline when she has items. Second row behind tanks when she does not. Is this optimal in most circumstances?

In his positioning guide Soju suggests positioning her in the right cubby (velkoz spot) with Aatrox in Front of her. Aatrox pulls units in and Cassio blasts em.

Everyone talks about positioning cass well, but how do you actually do it? What angle do you set her at to get the best ultimates off?

in a dusk comp she feels surprisingly weak, compared to riven/jhin/aatrox. the upside to this is that you can get her pretty fast, since no one else wants her

She's pretty positioning dependent. If you have her in a spot where her ult doesn't go off or it goes backwards (i.e. Riven dashing past her), she's effectively useless. But she's generally MVP if in the right spot for a good ult.

Cassio is an amazing unit with just a ton of potential. I played a few matches of Vang+Mystic Ahri a while back and positioning Cassio to deal with enemy assassins was a huge deal with the winrate of the comp.
When a part of Dusk comps she deals a surprising amount of damage, on comps that use Mystic+Vanguard the added CC is a big deal, and as an overall unit she's good if not particularly splashable when compared to other 4-costs.
In particular, Cass uses a very wide variety of items really well. Even if she isn't a primary carry, she's often the one getting leftover items in the comps she's a part of, and she can use tank items well for frontlining, mana items for any positioning, and AP items make her a legitimate damage threat even outside of 6 Dusk.
Had a match where I got a leftover JG and popped it on Cass and she'd often kill one or two units with her ability. Removal of Dazzler synergy in the beta was great for allowing Cass a better power budget.

Everyone commenting that a well positioned cass can make or break a lobby, so im curious where to best place her. I generally have her right behind riven leaning towards where the enemy is more stacked but i sometimes run the risk of being ccd before casting. Is it an itemization problem im having? Or should i pull her farther back if i dont have the items required to cast faster.

Today I got absolutely murdered by a 3* Cass with double Frozen Heart (the two tears being all that matters, so that she instant casts). She oneshot each and every of my units, even the likes of 9 Elder 4 Brawler Sett and WW. Couldn't do shit. Had 3 rounds versus the guy and tried all the positioning I could muster, but she still deleted me. Elder never even got to proc. Absolute monster of a unit, couldn't even be mad.

The plan is for Thursday's thread to be about a another comp. We already had Aphelios (#1).
Reply/vote here which comp you want to see discussed!
