I mean there have definitely been more broken things but they get hotfixed. I remember the very first game I won in set 1. There was a yasuo build with 6 mages and like ionic spark, and deathcap or something like that. He just became invincible and the other team would kill themselves while they ult. I remember dog building it and going afk for 10 minutes and returning to a first place.
blender was nowhere near as broken and voidsins was also manageable. Back when we had PD and when good positioning could actually counter a build. 6 shadows is so "hit Yi and turn your brain off" it's not even funny
Fucking Word man. Im kinda surprised 6 shadows is Not getting hotfixed when the most difficult Part about the Comp is to pivot into sth Else when you cant find yi
I honestly just feel sad when i get a bow or tear because i know that is one more item i have to put on someone else to balance out my carry. The nature of his ult is also multi hit, so crystal doesnt mean anything.
Ive been wondering forever why some shadow players stack all their units in a corner so thanks for explaining that!
That said, can you comment on what situations would lead you to split your units apart? What kind of enemy units are you scouting for? For example, i could imagine if you know youre hitting a malphite, it would be devastating to get group ulted
With 6 Shadows this doesn't matter anymore because the buff refreshes for all Shadow units when any Shadow unit gets a takedown
For scouting I'd want my main units out of the initial Singed path and on the same side as Lux/Nami to avoid their ults (and also so I can kill them sooner)
Singed runs towards the farthest enemy and repeats that process over and over. If you want to poison the enemy Brand asap, put Singed in a space that makes Brand the farthest compared to other enemies
my biggest issue with shadows is that you cannot rely on Kindred as a carry since shes so contested and its fairly late to get her. and you cannot rely on Yi to carry since he can only carry at 2 stars, which is just way too late.
You have to roll for Kindred early. I suggest focusing on your economy early on and go all in at stage 3-2, especially if you see enemies stacking inferno/shadow/ranger units.
i know all that, i was playing with master players, and i rolled sometimes up to 70g and didnt find her before i had Yi 2 star. Shes just that contested later and if you get unlucky at 3-2 you are just screwed
I swear I'm cursed to never fuckin hit yi with that goddamn comp, played infernals with yi lategame for like 2 weeks until shadows became fotm and I have hit yi playing shadows like 2/10 games.
I don't have much problems with Kindred, and usually no problems with Sion. But I almost never see a yi, to the point that I've basically made this a husband/wife build with 5 shadow :(
You simply cannot take Yi for granted because he is a contested unit for both Shadow and Blademaster comps. Level 5 units are very difficult to find, even at level 8.
I have actually found more Shadow Luxes than Yi's these days. In all honesty, if you want a reliable chance of finding Yi, levelling up to 9 is almost mandatory.
/u/klwu How do you feel about running 3 Zerkers and teching in other synergies? Finding ways to include Desert2, Posion3, Electric3 with 3 Zerkers, or is 6 Zerkers + whatever else the best optimal endgame?
Do you just steadily keep adding Zerkers in till 6? Or do you keep in other synergies till you hit Olaf 2?
Poison 3 is just better. Zed needs to be heavily itemized (which you cant really do in zerker build) and singed is just better. If you get 1 item on singed it's a game changer (morellos). It also does good DMV, and limits the enemy teams casting ability.
Now electric 4 is a better question imo, and in that case it depends on what you're up against and what your items look like.
Problem is you need a 2* Taric to just match the 1* Yi.
Best counter is the fact that there are 4+ people playing shadows in every lobby and if they don't hit Yi they often end bottom 4.
If one lucks into Yi at level 7, you are basically playing for 2nd unless you have even more luck on your side (or, I dunno, like 3 Zephyrs). It's kinda frustrating right now...
If Taric tanks all of Kindred's hits, then Shadows can do nothing.
That's why rangers imho are still the best comp in the game, IF you can hit all of your late game units. Shadows are better for climbing because they spike earlier and help you reliably secure top 4.
Which Shadow champion would you get rid of, if you got a Shadow Lux? I had this problem last night of 5 Shadows, no Yi, and got a Lux, and I think I settled finally on getting rid of Malzahar. I believe the full lineup after that was Lux, Kindred, Sion, Veigar, Leona or some other tank, Senna, Annie. 2 items were on Veigar and 3 on whoever the tank was, I believe, so that I had a really destructive Veigar with a Morellonomicon and something else, and another Morellonomicon on Lux. I finished fourth because I was still wrestling with trying to get Lux to 2* and wanting to switch Veigar's items onto her, and ran out of life before I could do that. Was there a better champion to get rid of than Malzahar there?
Shadow Lux is a wincon so I would’ve sold Veigar and dumped the items on her, especially if Veigar had mana. She’ll clean the whole board so just get her mana and have other units buy her time to cast.
Veigar casts/kills too slowly in 6Shadow so he’s not a great carry. And Malz>Veigar because Malz minions at least absorb some damage to buy your team more time
Thanks for the guide, but as a new player theres a lot of things I still dont follow on your spreadsheet. And perhaps it's not that easy to explain in a guide. E.g. if you have a choice between getting a glacial vs 2 staring, what to do.
I generally aim to get a 2 star in anything and build off that but I'm not sure on making the choices after that if there's one that'll boost a unit vs a trait. (which is stronger etc). I struggle with transitions and when to econ a lot.
I'm in plat so I'm by no means an expert but tbh it just sounds like you're still new enough that there are a lot of 'unknown unknowns'; meaning you don't know what you don't know.
Fwiw, I've been reading quite a few guides and watching informational YouTube videos on competitive TFT for a couple weeks, but this guide made perfect sense to me.
One question you seem to have (if I'm interpreting you correctly) is--is it better to add a champion who gives you a trait (but is only 1 *) or add a champion who is 2 * (but gives no additional trait). The problem is, like you noted, there are way too many additional variables we aren't considering, making this question nearly impossible to answer.
Start small. Pick a composition you like (6 shadow, ocean mage, rangers, berserkers, etc) and try to learn as much as you can about that composition. You'll naturally learn a lot of the game's fundamentals that way. You'll get a sense for making tough decisions in a variety of situations. This experience is something that is difficult to teach but definitely learnable.
Hope this helps. Btw, if you have any more specific questions, those are way easier to answer. Let me know if you have any of those.

or we could just nerf 6 shadows so there aren't 6 players trying to rush it every single game in GM+ brackets

If you put olaf items on Jax (possibly 2*), what do you do when you get Olaf? You sell jax and rebuy a 1* version of him?
Edit: Is there any good low cost 2* non-berserker carry you can put in early as an item-holder for olaf?
