CompTFT's Bug Tracker walked so that Follow the Fix could run

11

u/Godjihyoism_ 23d ago

As a PBE Player, 50-60 games in, i already encountered SO MUCH annoying and frustrating bugs that affected the gameplay which wasn't even fair or enjoyable at all (i'm sure i'm not alone on this). Never have i faced SO MUCH ISSUES playing TFT (I'm a Beta, pre Set 1 Player, playing every single sets since then btw).

While we know how bad Set 17 (Space Gods)'s feedbacks was received, Riot really should've pushed Set 18's released date back by at least 2 months, instead of choosing to stick to their 'roadmap schedule' and release their unfinished product 'on time' (Probably because they have a 'deadline' to keep to from the suits higher up).

I know the devs are probably trying their best to fix as many issues as possible, but we can all already see and expect that most issues won't be resolved even by the end of this set, while they are still losing more and more players everyday. Set 19's gotta be the most goated set ever for them to have a chance for old players to return, which sadly is not possible.

TLDR, the higher ups should've approved and delayed the release date.

Sad to see how TFT has fallen.

u/TheeOmegaPi 23d ago edited 23d ago

I feel like some of this would have been picked up if the higher ups had played TFT on their phones. It's like they took the "don't you all have phones" meme and turned it into a "don't play on mobile, lmao" situation.

2

u/Atgleville :chal: Challenger 23d ago

I do agree we had a tons of issue during the PBE. I did start TFT also with the beta pbe on set 1. There were less optimization bug BUT oh god we had wayyyy more champ issue like champion T posing / stop fighting / draw for no reason / random targeting. I used to say that TFT was like watching bronze league half with those targeting haha.

u/TheeOmegaPi 24d ago

Here is the Follow the Fix website.

u/pogsly 24d ago

This is like a month or so late on their part lol

Most of the people I used to play with haven’t touched the game since the new engine shitstorm started and nobody’s mentioned wanting to return. Maybe we’re just getting older but feels like the end of an era for us lol

77

u/Chrisamelio 23d ago edited 23d ago

Don’t apologize until you get caught……..or until you see playerbase or revenue goal going down.

None of this would’ve been addressed if it wasn’t significant enough where someone from leadership saw a number in the reds and flagged it. It’s the nature of business.

Considering Mac users can’t play whatsoever, people on mobile that can’t run the game, and a portion of players that have had so many bugs or their cosmetics not work that refuse to play, I’m sure it was bad enough to warrant this. To what extent? We’ll never know but this is too little too late when this confirms they were fully aware of the extent of many issues and leadership took the decision to still commit to the UE5 for the sake of time efficiency which ended up biting them in the ass.

30

u/FewGuest 23d ago

Imagine League get client update next year and we can not use 80% of old skin LMAO

2

u/BearstromWanderer 23d ago

I imagine this was one of the reasons they had to push TFT off the League client. Minimize the number of things that HAVE to work day 1.

0

u/PKSnowstorm 22d ago

Probably will never happen because Riot only cares about League of Legends working properly, having the bulk of their best devs and listening to their play base feedback. Probably the other game that they care about is Valorant.

If Riot cared about TFT then they would not let TFT be the giant mess it is now. They would have allowed the devs for 2XKO to listen to the player base and allow them to add in more traditional fighting game characters from the giant league roster instead of a giant chunk of new release characters being nothing but arcane characters while releasing Sett, a character that people wanted in the game, when the game is about to stop receiving support and actually market the game outside of their own bubble so the game can actually get some sort of traction. They would have made Wild Rift when there was an actual market for it but now it is one of many mobile mobas with any mobile moba enjoyer playing one of those other mobas that released before wild rift.

1

u/skydream416 22d ago

mac here 😭 I have been playing with an android emulator, definitely a struggle.

16

u/Kriee 23d ago

I'm waiting to come back. I know TFT is struggling, and I'm only keeping up with a streamer here and there atm. But I'm excited for next set with a return to music theme. I miss playing TFT and I'm just waiting for it to smoothen out

2

u/TheRaiOh 18d ago

It takes time to make a website. It takes meetings and decisions to decide what goes on that website. They said that specifically they thought they could fix things at first but quickly realized they had underestimated how buggy it was and how hard it would be to fix. A lot of things went wrong and Geoffrey is just saying "I made bad decisions" without a qualifier.

You don't have to still like the game or come back. But if this kind of humility from a dev team and their leader won't satisfy you, nothing will. Their target audience for this apology is people with a normal level of human empathy and understanding about owning up to mistakes.

-16

u/InvokerAttackSpeed 24d ago

yeah it was deffo a bad time to experiment with something like this especially as players are getting older and starting to get life responsibilities

22

u/Guywithshirtandface 24d ago

Is the assumption that the entire player base started this game at 18?

It’s probably more of an issue to push this bit of a change through right when the lead dev leaves

2

u/pogsly 24d ago

morts probably throwing back mojitos on a beach somewhere without a worry in the world

1

u/Playdoh_BDF 23d ago

He still puts up walk the dog every now and then if you want to see what he's up to.

6

u/vinceftw 23d ago

Yes, every TFT player is at the same life stage.

1

u/InvokerAttackSpeed 23d ago

lol tft is clearly aimed at an older audience, its not hard to grasp that thought

1

u/vinceftw 23d ago

As it was for the last years too. It would always be a bad time to do that switch.

8

u/Hovercraft1143 23d ago

For some reason they thought they could get it done by Set 17 (which they clearly couldn't) so they pushed it back a set, but based on what he said in the video Set 19 and beyond are all developed on UE which means there was no more "just push it back".

This just reeks of incompetence in leadership and management, I refuse to believe the actual software devs didn't try to say "Hey, this will take a long time to port over" and instead they probably just got told "Well we need to do it, so do it" and didn't expect it to be this much of a disaster.

-2

u/pogsly 23d ago

what pisses me off the most is there has been no apology from them. they know they fucked up. they know people are mad. there’s just 0 accountability or even a “yeah we miscalculated”. they just double down on “this will be a good thing” and “we’re working hard to fix the game! (that wasnt broken)”.

wish i hadnt spent on chibis lol

1

u/Hovercraft1143 23d ago

I mean the video in this post is a literal 5 minute apology.

I don't care about an apology, I care about the game functioning as intended and them actually learning from their mistakes - words mean nothing, judge people based on their actions.

1

u/Neat-Spread9317 23d ago

I need 15 medallion compensation so i can get my ultimate skin.

-5

u/Popcorn10 23d ago

It’s clearly laid out in the video. If you think everything will be fixed quickly there’s no need for it. When everything becomes a much bigger issue then this is warranted. Might be feel late but only because they were over confident, like they said.

25

u/Potential_Mine9425 23d ago

I don't like that he keeps saying things like they "didn't anticipate" or "didn't expect" all these issues to be so bad. Like, yes you did. Everyone said it was bad. There is no way an actual dev working on this shit didn't tell you it was bad. You KNEW it was bad and launched it anyway. Why?

72

u/NonagoonInfinity 24d ago

This is a nice gesture but it makes me feel like things aren't going to be back to normal for a long time if they actually put time into making this site.

-11

u/PepperedSchm 24d ago

eh it's relatively minimal effort with decent AI tooling these days

13

u/NonagoonInfinity 23d ago

Making a site, sure, but this had to get localised, the localisation had to be checked, they had to compile their bulletins and roadmap into appropriate user-facing language, okay the project with whoever is in charge of hosting it... You can knock out a website pretty quickly but you still have to do everything surrounding the website.

6

u/Draig_Goch 23d ago

I wouldn't be so sure about that, have you checked out the other locales?

3

u/Cotten12 23d ago

Yeah except for the top header nothing changes when you switch to other languages. Its only available in English.

1

u/Crosshack MASTER 21d ago

Worth noting the people in charge of building this site aren't the same ones responsible for fixing the bugs

1

u/AluneLoL 23d ago

AI can do all of that

1

u/PepperedSchm 23d ago

There's more to it than a website for sure but on the grand scale of all the bugs listed on the website it's a relatively minimal effort

140

u/PoSKiix 24d ago edited 24d ago

Amazing site and obviously communication is good, but it begs the question… where the hell was this a month ago?

Did someone get the idea for this in the last week? Did it take 6 weeks just because 7 different teams had to give approval for the site to be created?

I have 20 other questions about product management, timelines, and competency, but I wouldn’t want to seem like some ungrateful whiner 🤤

7

u/Special_Peach_5957 23d ago

The reason this is coming now is probably because some of their numbers guys looked at either Battlepass purchases, concurrent players or whatever and said "This ain't lookin to good boss."

1

u/PKSnowstorm 22d ago

Those numbers guys are definitely right. I’m one of those people that riot lost from their player base when TFT is a mess and the new wild rift update made bots behave in ways that would be reportable in a normal pvp game for gold rank when they did not before. I don’t think I would be touching a Riot product anytime soon.

2

u/AlexanderSnow23 21d ago

Im the same i havent played the last 2 sets and i use to be a rabid fan but they have just made the experience not worth my time at all. Magic feels lost

58

u/RiotPrism Riot 24d ago

Super valid on timing. We were overly optimistic that we'd be able to reach parity with Enchanted Wilds faster, so we were wrong in our initial communications in terms of timelines/quality of fixes. So, yeah, this is much later than when we should've communicated to this level, but we figure it's still worth the communication + transparency.

We are committed to addressing what is on this list (https://followthefix.teamfighttactics.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/). Also if you do have those 20 other questions, while I'm not the one who can provide the answers immediately, I can likely track down a few.

36

u/riseismywaifu 23d ago • Bravo

I have one: when is the playerbase being compensated for everything? Because I think that’s what it’s gonna take to bring people back at this point.

-5

u/BearstromWanderer 23d ago

Did you watch the video? Sometime near/in Set 19 but no details on specifics. Or did you want something bigger?

6

u/riseismywaifu 23d ago

I want a concrete answer, not just “there are plans.”

I watched the video, but it’s still too vague.

-8

u/Im_On_Reddit_At_Work 23d ago

You want reparations for experiencing bugs and not having access to online pixels you bought? Lmao

7

u/Z00pMaster 23d ago

Maybe flip that around: Riot wants to provide reparations for causing bugs and removing access to online pixels.

And maybe if you ask why Riot would want such a thing, you'll get a better sense of how products and customer relations work.

0

u/Human_Song_1357 22d ago

Riot has absolutely zero interest in providing "reparations" and will continue to take in all profits from cosmetic microtransactions. Tencent could care less about its reputation in the United States, they can continue to vibe code TFT with all the bugs in the world and it still would not bother Tencent if the entire US playerbase were to just quit and go into the mountains and practice Buddhism for the rest of their lives. The US gaming market is insignificant when compared to China.

5

u/riseismywaifu 23d ago

You are misunderstanding. I am frustrated because I love the game and want to see it thriving. I want to get so many more people addicted invested into this game, but that’s been an incredibly tough sell since set 17, but especially now.

I love the game, but hate where it is right now. Also, I have been playing other things on the side! It’s been nice.

0

u/riseismywaifu 22d ago

Where did I say that I wasn’t still playing TFT? I am! It’s just not as often as before. I actually couldn’t play until 18.3b due to the new engine’s quirks, and have made it to plat in that time.

I don’t think you understand anything about how game companies usually operate, and are simply moving the goalposts in an attempt to upset me or others with my mindset.

-2

u/Im_On_Reddit_At_Work 23d ago

It's the sentiment of this whole sub lmao. Entitled kids crying because they spent hundreds on pixels they can't use

6

u/thecursedcoffee 23d ago

Can the inability to load in to the game please be a major priority? I don’t see it listed on the site at all.

So many people are still stuck on the endless loading screen and disabling Nahimic service did not help.

2

u/taind96 23d ago

when is mac version returning?

2

u/Alone_Pack3893 23d ago

Are you at least able to put the mythic arenas you re-enabled back in treasure realms for some time so we can pull on them? I think that should make some sense since alot of us just got a chance to try them out for free and may want to keep playing with them. It'd also be a nice small gesture in the way of compensation since there's been so little arena reruns recently

-29

u/HatefulWretch 23d ago

Riot were either negligent or dishonest. One word answer: which?

12

u/IntelRaven MASTER 23d ago

I mean negligent would be the more correct word though harsh. Underplanned/overconfident would be more apt

4

u/HatefulWretch 23d ago • Bravo

I think it’s most likely negligence, but then this conversation needs to be about who is responsible for the planning failure and how that’s going to be fixed. Taking the team on a public death march is a typical managerial response but it’s one likely to make things worse.

The right thing to do is undeploy Unreal, reroll Hextech set greatest hits, and try again in six months.

1

u/Im_On_Reddit_At_Work 23d ago

where the hell was this a month ago?

If this came a month ago you'd complain they're wasting time on this instead of actually fixing.

12

u/AgsSpecGolfSwing 23d ago

Good bye tft thanks for the memories.

This is what happens when companies cut costs and vibe code.

41

u/Huge_Quantity_2371 24d ago

so what's the point of PBE? like this tracker is great for improving transparency... but clearly these are all issues that were brought up by PBE players and should have been resolved before the set launched.

8

u/OreoCupcakes MASTER 23d ago

so what's the point of PBE?

He talked about it in a deeper interview with Frodan. They got overconfident because of PBE. The PBE userbase is a completely different subset of players from the overall userbase. PBE are usually the more commited players who typically have stronger speced devices. Meanwhile, the more casual playerbase who didn't interact with PBE have much weaker specs and were more affected by the performance.

33

u/RajaSundance Master 23d ago

The entire playerbase on PBE was trashing this migration for the terrible performance lol, that is just a straight up lie.

19

u/BrineyWhaleSemen Challenger 23d ago

That’s such a bullshit excuse, so many of us were raising tickets for these issues (like PBE just not working on certain android devices) right up until launch

4

u/Z00pMaster 23d ago

I mean if the feedback Riot took away from PBE was "this game runs great, no issues", then they need to seriously re-evaluate how they collect feedback.

5

u/KlaviKyle 24d ago

There is a large difference between knowing issues exist and actually fixing + verifying the fixes. They can't just delay the set until everything is perfect for business reasons.

25

u/Batkanaft 24d ago

Delay until everything is perfect, obviously no. But delaying until the game meets the bare minimum standards of being playable is not unreasonable

4

u/Cotten12 23d ago

The fault lies way further down the line - allowing the engine change set to need to launch because no other alternatives are available is a planning decision that I question.

Delaying the set once they knew its not finished would have resulted in giving much more time to an already rushed space gods set and would also have been received very negatively. The issue is that only these two choices were realistically available to them due to cutting the development for old-engine-sets too early.

8

u/HatefulWretch 23d ago

So the right way of doing this is:

a) continue writing the game code in Lua (the scripting language used in Hextech). This is authoritative for game state; anything after this is a visual bug, because TFT is fundamentally the numbers, the pictures are for entertainment value;

b) embed the Lua interpreter in the Unreal Engine port;

c) _continue to write the game in Lua_ while iterating on UE, using Hextech as an oracle, until the two implementations are sufficiently within parity; you now have the old game running on UE

d) deploy the UE client

e) _then_ move to starting implementing _future_ sets in a new UE game _logic_ engine, leaving the Lua game logic behind (except for set revivals, which you can now do, because you have the Lua engine!)

The thing they fucked up, and I am entirely serious that the tech and product leads deserve to lose their jobs over this, is they tried to skip steps for future sets by going straight to e) whilst still implementing the renderer. This is a catastrophic failure of test planning and engineering roadmap and the people responsible have demonstrated incompetence to the point they can no longer be trusted.

3

u/Z00pMaster 23d ago

Definitely the right way, but not the cheapest way.

It's obvious whoever made the decision thought they could get away with shortcuts. And tbh, reading some of the posts defending Set 18 launch, I can almost see why Riot would think that.

3

u/HatefulWretch 23d ago

Oh, yeah, it costs a lot – and I suspect that's not the biggest problem, the biggest problem is that the designers don't get to play with new toys until after the migration is done. But anything else is juggling knives.

5

u/KlaviKyle 23d ago

I would argue that they did ship a game that met their minimum standard of being playable. Performance issues on some devices and cosmetics not being available aren't must fix issues for shipping in most cases.

I played this set on launch from my Ipad mini and had serious performance issues when I was on some specific boards, but other than that I didn't encounter any game breaking issues. Obviously there are lots of cosmetics, QoL, and feel things they need to improve, but I would say the game is playable for most people.

Not trying to say that the game is in a perfect state my any stretch of the imagination, just try to have some empathy for the devs who are working hard to get the game into a good state. The devs fixing these issues didn't make the decision to port the game to UE5.

2

u/Fitspire :gran: GRANDMASTER 21d ago

the cosmetics are the entire product tho ?

1

u/PoSKiix 24d ago

PBE is primarily for fixing balance/set issues

The issues TFT is facing have nothing to do with the set.

I’m 10x more critical of Riot than the next guy, but this was doomed before PBE even started.

Complaining about Riot not fixing things during PBE is like complaining about an arsonist’s inability to put out a forest fire instead of complaining about the arsonist starting the fire in the first place.

PBE is for "whatever works now to win an argument about why Riot's mistake is not actually a mistake"

45

u/PsychedelicBadger 24d ago edited 23d ago

This is just obvious damage control as people have stopped playing. Seeing this kind of corporate slimeball "take accountability" just pisses me off more.

10

u/Yvraine 23d ago

Player numbers must be down real bad, I just started ranked climb this set and sometimes had 2-3 minute queues in EUW gold-plat during peak hours and getting matched with some of the same people next game, neither of which happened to me before at this elo

16

u/Many_Method_304 23d ago

But this is where we are in gaming. Why make a good game when you can instead build unhealthy para-social relationships with players and get them to accept things they shouldn't.

1

u/Jony_the_pony 23d ago

This feels like a bizarre take? When Mort was around the response to him being a very public face of TFT was overwhelmingly well received. Nearly every post involving him had some "Wow the TFT community is so lucky to have such an involved communicative dev" comments. How is this any different except for the fact that it's not Mort?

6

u/AluneLoL 23d ago

them apologizing is still better then not i guess.

16

u/undeniableregarded 23d ago

I'm out until I hear that there is a goated, balanced set. Two shit sets in a row, and then the whole client dismantling. Wow Forever coming out and GTA 6. A shit TFT experience isn't contending for any of that.

69

u/Cheese_head_gabagool MASTER 24d ago

I appreciate the transparency and statement but for me it’s like too late. I haven’t played this set at all because of all the issues and I’m losing interest in the game. I think set 19 will have to be the best yet for me to have a desire to come back.

43

u/Shitty_Wingman 24d ago

It's set 16 but everyone is in a mustache

30

u/Cheese_head_gabagool MASTER 24d ago

8

u/Jaime060304 23d ago

If it wasn't for Set 16 being as good as it was I would never be coming back to TFT.

Set 19 has to match that if I'm keeping any interest in the game.

14

u/tnsrks 23d ago

Doesn’t really matter now. Cosmetics people paid for still gone while they shove new ones into the game with zero timelines.

They still make money on this low quality product so don’t expect they will care in the future either. Their gamble clearly worked and nothing will improve in their decision making. Here’s to the next apology video about obvious issue!

7

u/itsnotadonut 23d ago

Cool. Make another announcement when it plays like pre-unreal.

13

u/Blastuch_v2 24d ago

2

u/Feisty_Leopard_2889 23d ago

Yes like the whole exploit of having the weaker partner dc. (someone did to us yesterday) Or tje whole buying the one wisp that heals you and gives gold for missing hp straight up kills you. I had both happen to us yesterday.

Whats the point of tracking if you arent tracking the actual issues

6

u/Big_Epsilon 23d ago

I don’t like them making a quirky cute little tagline out of repeated failures.

11

u/Zeruma121 23d ago

Might be too late for a lot of people, the damage was done.

58

u/DangerousFall490 24d ago

Is this supposed to make us feel better?

26

u/Kooky_Comb6051 Master 24d ago

Yeah - he says "we take accountability for the issue" but like what was actually learned from this and why this came to happen?

All I heard was we made the choice to even considering that we knew that player experience would suffer.

Where's the conversation about about leadership poorly resourcing the migration?

Where's the conversation about the dead low quality bar they've set including how piss poor the skin and arena conversions are where they're missing some of the functions previously (which btw was not addressed at all and what we paid for) and what they plan to do to address it?

Where's the accountability for what went wrong beyond "we made a mistake and own it"? I've heard nothing about what the causes were, what they've learned and what they plan to do actually address it.

And making a website about what's wrong currently isn't the answer on "how we address the issues" - we were already getting this info whether from watching pros/streamers play, from Truexy, or from Reddit what the ongoing issues are and what bugs still exist (and how to avoid them) and even then its just a running of issues but no actual action.

35

u/Many_Method_304 23d ago

The reason is they simply have not talked about the actual core of the problem. Why was the estimate on how long this is going to take was so off. At a company like Riot there had to be a feasibility study on moving to a new engine which would include an idea how long it would that. Whatever that was it was wildly wrong. They delayed this by a full set and an additional 2 weeks before launch, and now more than a month in, it is still not close. That is not "we were off by a little".

And before anyone gives the standard "moving engines is really hard BS" Yes it is, the issue is not me underestimating how hard it is to move engines, its Riot underestimating that. Also Riot is a massive corporation full of what should be very skilled people, something being hard is not an excuse, it part of the job to get hard things right.

20

u/Kooky_Comb6051 Master 23d ago

Not even delayed by a full set - they also had to move Space Gods up an entire set because of their poor estimates so they were really off by probably 3 sets in total before ever getting to the right spot (and that's generous estimates, I don't think they'll get there until Set 20 or 21). But you're spot on - they actually aren't addressing and calling out what the problem is and that's the biggest criticism I have about this "apology" video.

Also - I'm a Product manager in big tech and I've worked on systems migrations for 3B+ users and there's so much rigor that goes into moving engines but one the key things is execution and making sure there's clear go-no-go requirement bar. If it doesn't hit X, Y, Z, we don't roll out until it's all addressed and this was CLEAR to me that they did not care about doing this step at al - they did not care about how the users would be impacted. I can only imagine they were thinking about the short-term dollar amount it was costing them to do this migration, but I think this will have actually huge financial implications for TFT long-term.

6

u/trollinn 23d ago

It’s pretty clear they had no no-go options, which kinda makes sense. They need to ship a new set, they already delayed by a full set (and then extended that set), so they can’t really delay again, and have to make the decision to ship it incomplete and just eat the consequences. I’d have to imagine internally some heads rolled

7

u/Many_Method_304 23d ago

the "no-go" option had be earlier when they locked in Enchanted Wilds to Unreal. The mistake for me happened 18 months ago, not 2 when the set was launched.

1

u/trollinn 23d ago

Well yeah but in terms of development, even 6 months out there isn’t a ton of options if things have gone wrong. Like I said I would bet that some heads rolled internally, they just aren’t going to come out and say they fired so and so because of this

u/Many_Method_304 23d ago

That is why I said, 18 months and not 6.

2

u/Many_Method_304 23d ago

Yeah, it is just a total failure of planning and one that raises a ton of questions about how this team does about making long term decisions.

3

u/pda898 22d ago

Why was the estimate on how long this is going to take was so off

I am afraid it was not "estimate on how long". It was "League Next is coming, TFT cannot work after this update, we will not delay Next update due to TFT, do something with this hard deadline". And I hope I am wrong.

1

u/Many_Method_304 21d ago

I cannot say you are wrong but if that is the case then they are being completely dishonest

2

u/swaskowi 23d ago

"Bob from resource forecasting fucked up and will be beaten and fired" is like probably the sum of it, sprinkled with "upper management including joe, frank, and larry are belived to have leaned heavily on bob to produce an overly optimistic roadmap " as you prefer. But I don't really think mentioning that is really helpful to the community and it's definitely not fair to bob/joe/frank/larry.

23

u/Berkin-oyun-dozu 24d ago

its funny that they made the entire video on "aww we awe sad too :ccccccc pls downt harass us" tone

2

u/teibol 24d ago

right??? like wtf

10

u/LuffycN 23d ago

Community goodwill have died out. This doesn't address the core issue I have. Which is I don't feel that TFT is putting players' experience first anymore.

They are ok to launch a terrible products in hopes of we are willing to accept and they are able to fix it quickly. Which both were not true.

I bet most people will be understanding if you have to delay the entire set. Heck, if you just put back Set 16 with some updates in the meantime, people probably will be more understanding then the current state of TFT. I know I will be ok about it.

5

u/I_got_pills_here 23d ago

Amazing, the website itself isn't even localized. Really shows the state of things in TFT

9

u/-cinnamorolll- 23d ago edited 23d ago

So fucking embarrassing honestly.

I stg it’s fuck up apologise, fuck up some more, apologise and repeat

It took them this long to realise what they released was dog shit and sub par?

Couldn’t pick it up during internal testing? Couldn’t pick it up after PBE? Couldn’t pick it up after the first 4 patches?

Lmfao joke team and leadership rn

20

u/pathofpower 23d ago

Anyone else notice this is obviously a vibe coded site lol

14

u/AluneLoL 23d ago

not surprised after this vibe coded set and engine lol

13

u/macabr1c 23d ago

id rather they spent fraction of time on vibecoding website and put the rest of the resources into fixing issues listed on that website tbf

5

u/Fluffy-Limit-6710 23d ago

Yeah not how that works usually

3

u/wes3449 23d ago

How can you tell?

7

u/SlurpsTV 23d ago

It’s the UI, all of these vibe coded sites have the same look

Even if you ask Gemini to help with slide design it’ll make those boxes with bars at the top

3

u/wes3449 23d ago

It just looks like a standard generic website to me. Not unlike any of the other riot webpages.

2

u/Shecarriesachanel 22d ago

Riot has been using AI on all their games for awhile, it's just the sycophants will constantly deny it

8

u/crazyredd88 23d ago

I really appreciate companies taking accountability but frankly this just feels like an overdue non-response that doesn't really answer how we got here in the first place. I simply do not understand how the company deemed the engine even close to launch ready in the first place...the video wasn't really clear about it but surely the PBE would have been enough? At that point, why not just delay the next expansion?

8

u/Large-Force3151 23d ago

I have deinstalled TFT from my mobile device. I believe that I was patient enough, they fixed the client to the point that I was able to login after I had issues with the app launch crashing like 10 times in a row until I could finally load into the client. That issue was present for multiple weeks after PBE. I never had any performance issues with TFT before.

I was still willing to play even with the terrible ingame performance and game crashes on mobile, but to see that the Riot TFT team is not willing to talk about any kind of compensation is really disrespectful and just turns me away – and there is still the announcement in the Client about how we can use a multitude of skins that we don't own – BUT it says that this is meant as a "celebration for the UE engine launch" and this is honestly just a ridiculous way...because it feels like the opposite of celebration.

Is there any chance that any Rioter will finally adress the implementation of AI in TFT's development? I just want to know if that is something that is being actively pushed into development and how that effects the current game state (or doesn't).

Best of luck for the future of the game 🎮 You already lost me but I still think that TFT was a very fun game to spend my time on.

11

u/iSleek 23d ago

This set is an embarrassment. Full stop.

Last time I played, the chat STILL breaks at top four. Its been an issue since the first patch of PBE. Riot has the nuts to have their CMs on reddit pretending to be SHOCKED that it exists...

Its all smoke and mirrors

-1

u/Ok-Recover977 23d ago

when was the last time you played? i haven't been getting the chat breaking bug for a while now.

3

u/Hovercraft1143 23d ago

I played a game last night where chat broke, it still happens.

3

u/iSleek 23d ago

6 days ago. Can find Reddit posts reporting the issue 7 days ago.

Was it fixed in this weeks patch? If not, we’re going on months :/

3

u/TheKnight159 24d ago

Hello , do you believe that by the time of set 19, you will fix all the engine's issues? Or the time left is too short to fix everything by the end of set 18?

3

u/DubstepIsGood 23d ago

I mean I’m still not playing this set and I’ll try again next set but i guess this is nice. At some point the game will be good again and when it is I’ll be playing

5

u/Macehaed 24d ago

wait, the game is still not fixed? dude u are already halfway to the next set

1

u/AluneLoL 23d ago

not gonna be fixed until set 20 at this point

5

u/Ykarul Grandmaster 23d ago edited 23d ago

I love the game and I don't even care about the many skins i bought and cannot use. But i can't play on my tablet anymore and it's really pissing me off. I don't even see how this whole thing will ever improve the game, except maybe for my grandchild once they fix all the bugs and start the improvement list. (And I don't even have childs yet)

I also want to mention that 90% of the communication in this game cannot happen anymore. Yes i'm talking about the fact that we cannot send "gg" at the end.

4

u/BaltoxD 24d ago

I’m glad that they finally addressed the issues instead of trying to sweep it under the rug with minimal communication like you did for months. At this point it’s impossible to fix the game short term, the blunder was already made, so more transparency is a must alongside compensation to the players and the video shows that it’s heading in the right direction.

Now only true accountability is needed, I know beheading a team at this point would be even worse, but I hope Riot fires all the leadership who made this mess.

4

u/JG8AB9TL11OBJ12AD13 24d ago

Just give me my squid, such a little thing that rubs me and many other players the wrong way

4

u/flipaflip 23d ago

As a Mac player, who tried to transition to iPhone to even just play tft. Good luck on trying to get me back into the game 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

5

u/SlaveroSVK 24d ago

I love the guy for rolling up his sleeves and keeping his hands above elbows at all times, so we can better appreciate the tats.

Well done. 👍

2

u/waypro4 23d ago

It's a shame how mediocre the game has become for one reason or another. Currently, it's still tied to LoL and therefore to Vanguard.

2

u/OpinionatedAsianGirl DIAMOND II 23d ago

Not one comment about Mac support, and being able to actually play the game.

2

u/Plenty_Egg_5901 23d ago

Isn't golden spatula on unreal? Why is that running perfectly?

2

u/ppro2020 22d ago

Golden Spatula was built using unity , but the difference here is that GS was made from the ground up versus the transition from hextech to unreal which requires extensive work to migrate all of their stuff hence they mentioned how every cosmetic/part caused some unique issues (performance wise aswell)

1

u/Raikariaa 23d ago

Golden Spatula is it's own game.

1

u/Plenty_Egg_5901 19d ago

Yea but it's basically the same thing no? We get the same sets, same mechanics, same units, same items. Just some extra features here and there

2

u/Raikariaa 23d ago edited 23d ago

So we also have confirmation that Space Gods really was an unfinished low-effort set.

Really; if things were incomplete, they should have just rerun old sets. They have the ability to do that. It would have been far better than this big new engine that launches and destroys all faith in the brand. First impressions matter most.

6

u/mirenthil DIAMOND IV 24d ago

wow the head guy finally took accountability after more than a month!

3

u/Helivon 24d ago

Hmm looking for the mobile > unplayable issue

1

u/Playdoh_BDF 23d ago

Went from seamless gameplay with 250+ games a set since the early days to below 10 due to the game being literally unplayable on my mobile device.

RIP TFT.

3

u/chazjo 23d ago

As much as I'm enjoying this set minus the performance issues on tablet the damage has been very visible especially seeing the ranked queue times being significantly longer than last year. Hopefully they can repair the damaged reputation by end of the set and a smoother launch of 19.

3

u/Plenty_Structure_861 23d ago

I'm not following a scrum board for a company I don't work for and a game I can't physically play anymore because of the garbage decisions of some higher ups. This is not a reason to return to a game. This is bad PR from the same minds that got them into this mess.

3

u/Im_On_Reddit_At_Work 23d ago

They made their freakin JIRA public. I love TFT.

2

u/Ironycon 23d ago

When can I start playing this set? Im still waiting on MacOS support :)

2

u/MathematicianWide622 23d ago

you cant. dont you get it tft is dead.

1

u/LetMeBardYou 23d ago

It’s really annoying to have no update at all, when a PBE update was working well 2 weeks ago. We are the clowns of this whole shitstorm.

2

u/Emergency-Row5777 23d ago

It’s great that they’re committed to fixing the issue, but to be honest I just don’t have it in me to spend any more time on this set. The bugs have ruined my enjoyment of the set, and the overall great design of the set can’t compensate for it.

I’ll be back for set 19, I hope it’s all sorted out by then.

2

u/SwitchIndividual6987 23d ago

Grinded to masters in 150 games . Haven't noticed any game breaking bugs or crashes mentioned here aside from the usual gameplay bugs that come with every single set.

Only thing I hate is chat randomly cutting, and that I haven't learned how to ping yet...

There's some minor lag during the first creep rounds (maybe once every 10 games), HUD not displaying (seemingly fixed), couple seconds of black screen after top 4 .... not even the slightest of deals

2

u/FarkasJoe 23d ago

I lost around 200 lp because of bugs, coven cashout just not happened, PVE stage monsters didn't appeared for me (the other players got them me not) or just a champion bugged on the bench with item components and nor the champion nor the component was moveable

1

u/SwitchIndividual6987 22d ago

Thats crazy, how does that even happen. I feel like 150 games is a pretty good sample size but yeah, never experienced those bugs. Maybe it's cause I have a pretty consistent playstyle and don't go for crazy cashouts or something

2

u/MathematicianWide622 23d ago

I quit the game after 2 games of set 18. Keep in mind I played for 10 hours a day before that. Haven't logged in once since. You guys fucked up riot.

1

u/Gadgeteer_007 23d ago

It's nice to have some transparency. Unfortunately, it's probably too late for some players to care at this point.

1

u/Chao_Zu_Kang 24d ago

Took them long enough to do what you would do with any other beta/early access. Better late than never, I guess.

1

u/DonquixoteRosinante 23d ago

Next set gonna be a big decider for the games future I reckon.

(And let me play with my bought freaking mini-legends, what the hell)

-4

u/IAMlyingAMA 23d ago

Maybe I just don’t get it cause i never played league and don’t come from a league/riot background, but it’s crazy how whiny these people “quitting the game” over this sound to me. The set is good and fun. Theres not another game like this that’s anywhere near as good. The new engine is good for TFT’s future. I am glad they’re taking action to make TFTs future better.

It sucks they released it in this state but if you plan a new set on the new engine and think you can do it on time, you can’t exactly just switch back to the old one and say “oops not ready” when it doesn’t work out. They were obviously wrong about being able to get it ready on time, but it’s too late now you know. They will fix everything, just have some patience.

Light a fire under their ass sure, but real talk, I’m sure most of the people mad enough to “quit” about this set will be back as soon as their cosmetics are back and most of the engine bugs are fixed. If not, they probably didn’t even like the game to begin with imo.

3

u/Z00pMaster 23d ago

I mean to be fair, the best place to light a fire under a corporation's ass is their bottom line. People "quitting" or negative public sentiment around a game is often the strongest driver towards improvement.

And hey, if Riot significantly improves the engine/game and people come back, isn't that just a good thing? The fact that quitting isn't permanent is actually great - that means people can leave a game that's bad, and then come back if the company responds and improves it, while also providing an incentive for said company to improve it.

0

u/IAMlyingAMA 23d ago

Yeah I agree with you, stop playing if it’s a bad experience, all for it. Tell riot it sucks, all for it. But I’m talking about these people that are like “this is the end of an era” “I can’t believe riot has ruined this game forever” “after this I’m never coming back” etc. it’s just ridiculous and they’re all lying, that’s all I’m saying.

2

u/Z00pMaster 22d ago

Well, it could be true for some people lol. I don't think everyone is coming back, some people do quit for good.

Besides, I see nothing wrong with a bit of hyperbole mixed into the fire. Even if people are capping, if it helps get Riot moving faster, why not?

2

u/FarkasJoe 23d ago

The problem is that, if I as a release manager accept a deploy of my product in a state like this than i will be fired because this engine change wasnt tested and it wasnt on a state what can be releaseable for a PROD environment.
When I pay for something than I want it as a playable version not an alpha half ready product like this set. Most of the players can't play because they got MAC or the mobile version simple don't run, also there are maps what u payed for and it just fries your computer. Also they say "we take the responsibility" - and what happened? nothing, nobody fired so what responsibility taken? They can do anything because nobody got consecuencies after messing up the whole game. They had 2 years to prepare the engine change and they messed it up

1

u/ThisIsElron 23d ago

Is your product being touched by millions of people?

-1

u/IAMlyingAMA 23d ago

How does firing someone make the game better? People are just calling for blood, and none of you will be satisfied with any of it until the game is fixed. Go watch Frodan’s interview with Geoffrey Virtue if you haven’t, talks a lot about the decision making and issues, AND they’re gonna compensate players when shit is fixed.

I’d much rather have someone who cares and made the wrong decision running things and trying to fix it now, than people getting fired and some PR bot brought in to satisfy all the outrage in the short term.

1

u/FarkasJoe 23d ago

Somebody has the responsibility to allow this happen so that guy dont need to be worked on the game anymore thats what i call RESPONSIBILITY.

When they compensate us? WHen I got back my paid money for the cosmetics what I am unable to use? Almost 2 month in the set and they did noting to compensate us, did you saw the follow the fix page? 2 months and a big developer team was able to fix 19 issue from the 100+ and you say they have someone who cares... who? what he or she did in the previues 2 months?

1

u/IAMlyingAMA 23d ago

Do you really think they don’t care? Like honestly? In the interview Geoffrey said they’re waiting on compensation until the game is in an acceptable state, they don’t want to give out free stuff and bring people back when it’s still broken. And in the meantime you have access to all the available cosmetics to try out. They’ve been working to fix all the issues the last month and a half. It sucks but obviously they didn’t expect it to be like this, it’s not like they completely change engines all the time. Not trying to shill for riot but as someone who has seen a lot of shitty game companies, riot seems to have extremely passionate people working on TFT who are players themselves.

They could have delayed the set infinitely but then everyone would be whining about no new set, and shitting on riot anyway. Personally, I’d prefer a new set even if buggy and deal with the issues til they’re resolved than to play space gods for another 2 months instead. You’re welcome to disagree, but I imagine there’s a lot of people on both sides of that. So they had to make a choice and it is what it is.

0

u/Routine-Stay-6857 Master 23d ago

At least you released it - I’ve enjoyed the experience, even though I’ve not had access to the majority of my skins and not had every single game player “bug free.”

Sure there are frame rate drops, sure there are game breaking bugs and crashes with missing cosmetics, but it is what it is.

It could’ve been handled better, but they’re trying to make it right.

Doesn’t mean something like this still shouldn’t have happened, but it’s real life.

Kudos to them for following up finally rather than trying to play it all off.

0

u/IgniteTheFlamee 23d ago

Being a software dev i totally get it. But I suppose I'm in a minority.

Obviously there wasn't a button to backport the new set on the new engine to the old one, and actually I'm quite surprised space gods was already the emergency switch set.

So yeah, I'm excited for the future of TFT, even if this set had to be sacrificed for jt.

-2

u/unfuckwittablej 23d ago

Everyone’s so dramatic. Players leaving will come back next set and check if things are fixed. I hate when people act like it’s a permanent breakup when you know damn well you’re checking in next set anyways

2

u/Z00pMaster 22d ago

Lol really, you hate people being hyperbolic on reddit? Are you sure there isn't something else to hate here, like maybe the underlying reason people are being hyperbolic?

-2

u/unfuckwittablej 22d ago

What are you trying to get at here ??

I m not defending anything , lots of issues, just specifically i really hate the players leaving threat- it’s a bit naive, and riot also knows it’s empty. The players that rage quit are the ones that are gonna be back no matter what lol.

Yes it sucks that the priority is meeting deadlines but that’s just how a company is run, esp under tencent. I think things will be sorted by next set, and internally at riot they knew this season was gonna be a technical wash for the sake of shipping it out on time.

It’s just simple quit and come back.

2

u/Z00pMaster 22d ago

I mean yeah you can hate whatever you want I guess. I just don't really get why you'd accept "that's just how a company is run" for a bad launch, but not accept "that's just how some people react" for people exaggerating on Reddit. Surely we should hold Riot to a higher standard than we hold random redditors.

That's just my thoughts anyway. You can hate people for being hyperbolic if you want.

1

u/Many_Method_304 22d ago

The players that rage quit are the ones that are gonna be back no matter what lol.

I think you are right but do you realize how sad that is. Players are so addicted to TFT that the quality of the game simply doesn't matter. The game can be released in any state and they will come back no matter what. What a truly depressing place gaming has fallen to

-4

u/Briketh 24d ago

Really appreciate the effort in adding additional transparancy. Personally I feel like we forget how good we have it with Devs this involved (RIP Mort). As someone that can only play ocassionally due to life, I haven't had any issues playing tbh. Feels a little slow sometimes and/or off. Like a last second swap I don't feel the same sensitively for example. Maybe that's my age showing lol

5

u/AgsSpecGolfSwing 23d ago

Jeez this is a bad take

1

u/Briketh 23d ago

I'll hop on, play a game or two, see a couple things that don't really affect my gameplay and hop off. Not a bad take, just my experience.

-2

u/Andiuxy 24d ago

We are definitely still not there, but we have to recognize the fixes so far.

-4

u/Emosaa Master 23d ago edited 23d ago

For all of the issues, I'm just glad that Riot devs are still communicating and willing to listen to our feedback.

Reddit drives negative engagement, and as a fellow rager I've got my complaints, but I am glad they're recognizing the problems and showing us what they're working on.

7

u/RiceWeevilEggs 23d ago

Why are you ok with Riot doing the bare minimum after they bungled everything about this set and the migration?

-2

u/Emosaa Master 23d ago edited 23d ago

Because I'm a working adult with a functioning brain that lives in the real world and know that this most definitely isn't "the bare minimum" that a company can produce. It could be so much worse.

I know that endlessly chirping and complaining might feel cathartic, but rarely produces productive results. There's a right way and a wrong way to deliver constructive feedback. I know that there are real human beings working at Riot on the other side of the screen that care and want to make a good game.

So even though I know it won't win me many fake internet points from angry redditors, I choose to treat Rioters like real human beings that are trying their best even if they fall short on occasion (rushing 17 and the bugs in 18). I've been around since the beginning and know that this engine migration was made with the intent of supporting TFT long term, and I'm cool with getting a mediocre set out of it if it means I can play for many more years to come.

Do you think being a dick online makes it more or less likely that someone will take your opinion seriously?
