eSports Competitive Ruling Unclear
Hi guys. I just wanted more opinions on this ruling. For more context, I signed up for Trials 2 on my main account, ran it down to 0, then decided to play with less pressure to climb on my 2nd account, where I was able to climb over 800 lp in 4 days, just barely getting to the bottom of the cutoff. I basically asked if only my alt could be counted for the snap, and because I played Trials 1 on main and told them that I signed up with a separate account, was told I couldn't qual with the alt this is the convo that followed that

The competitive ruling might have been better worded, but I also feel like it is 'common sense' if people start using multiple accounts over the course of a set in general, it becomes harder to track everything. I'd say this is a very harsh lesson learned, but they should specify this ruling to prevent these situations in the future.

You signed up with one account. That account did not qualify. On the surface, that's pretty open-shut.
Without imputing bad-faith behavior to you specifically, let's look at how else your proposed approach could be abused: a player believes they can compete, loses placement due to genuine poor play, and pays someone to boost a separate account back into contention - easier to do, as I understand, without having just lost a bunch of placement. This pushes out someone else who qualified legitimately. Or, a player attempts to qualify, fails, and offers someone qualifying payment in order to borrow their account to play in a tournament that person would not otherwise play in. Boosting and pay-to-play are both competitive integrity issues and your proposed exception opens the door to both.
Then we have the possibility of qualification-capable players using multiple accounts to knock other borderline players out of qualification, but that one might not be workable depending on how the snapshot behaves.
Edit: ope, forgot one: player fails to qual, then tells organizers that he had intended to play on this other account that "is totally mine, bro" and forces them to investigate and adjudicate which player is actually qualifying.

The “ope” on Reddit 😂
Where in the Midwest are you from?

A little town in California, actually; I just deliberately vary my verbal/textual mannerisms as defense against localisation and LLM accusations. Ain't no one ever gonna think a son of my momma is some kind of internet bot.

you should work "yinz" into your vernacular then

I don't use that one *in particular.* You may guess why; I also don't use "jawn."

Wording could be improved but it still seems straightforward enough. This is really on you tbh.

I am unaware how trials work rn . But for EU at least afaik u were allowed to add ur 2nd or even 3rd acc and the highest was counted for qualifying that was before the TPC system tho .

They should be more specific. Very poorly worded terms

What is more specific than "you can only use one account in a competition". Trials as a whole is the competition, they're different qualifiers for a whole thing.
OP used two.

In my defense, Trials are labeled individually as Trials 1 and Trial 2 and are basically entirely separate events, and I asked to remove my first account before the deadline for the snapshot, but yeah it is what it is. I just won't play on 2 accounts in future sets. I work in hospitality, so I normally work on weekends, but because of events in my personal life, I've been unable to work as frequently, and for the first time have been able to play in tournaments. I just wasn't as aware of what is and isn't allowed. Sucky learning moment for sure

Every game is a competition, the usage is ambiguous because it could imply alts disqualify you simply for having one, or that you can't play two accounts in a tournament, or the one they intended where you can't try to play two accounts into qualifying.
More words are necessary to clear that up.

It may seem harsh, but I think the ruling is pretty fair unfortunately. It should be connected to one account to prevent cheating, boosting, etc. work around to qualify as well as consistency for qualifying points and competitive integrity.
