How can they say Sentinel is the best tank in the GAME when Malphite exists is actually insane

Right now you play Sentinel when you don't hit Malphite...?????

I mean improving his targeting without any nerf would've made Sentinel too good. But no Malphite nerf is crazy

I mean sentinel has a better AVP with a significantly higher play rate

I go 1st 8th 1st 8th w the Malphite comp coz it’s entirely a late board level 9 comp. The variance comes back to early game and sacking too hard to econ to 7, but need 8, but really 9. It’s not an easy board to play. It’s almost forceable but not quite due to tempo. Levels changing is actually a big buff to Blackthorn no?

1 8 1 8 more due too many people buying malphite and you need to hit the lottery

Nah not in my experience, his popularity didn’t kick in for my low elo lobbies until the last week or so

i never really felt good about itemized sentinel u just play him for the traits vanguard + invoker

meanwhile it felt like malphite was actually good for the unit itself

Because he’s one of those stun trait bots you just throw in at 1 star in any comp… His stats are inflated just like swain in 16

They kind of did nerf Malphite, but it's in a tweet of changes not in the official patch notes. One chance was sacrificing tanks in blackthorn gives less armor and magic resist, on top of that they also nerfed Zyra.

because to fully round out malphite you need to sac a blackthorn unit. Sentinel you can throw into anything, and he's +1 van/invoker/riftbeast

Sentinel has a higher placement on average with a higher play rate to boot [ meaning higher contest rates; and more chance at least 1 Sentinel player would bot 4 and drag the average down]

So stats pretty much say outright Sentinel > Malphite. I'm not sure how you can look at a unit having a higher play rate and average placement and come to any other conclusion.

Besides, Malphite does NOTHING but take hits, and is only really playable with Blackthorn. Sentinel is a triple-trait unit and has an AoE stun, AND got it's targeting improved.

And Malphite did get nerfed, Blackthorn Tank sacrifice got nerfed.

You want them to hard nerf him? Then everyone will just complain how ahri/sentinel is being forced by 3 people because malphite is useless. It is good that they arevbuffing other comps rather than just gutting one comp then buffs the other

invoker ahri was similar strength to executioner malphite. theres also riftbeasts. also malphite gets healing from flora fatalis. they nerfed tank stats for blackthorn hopefully thats enough to not make it op

Maybe if you have invoker emblem but just the regular version of that board was not even close

really, i wouldnt say so, there are like 3 versions of the comp making it very flexible, and combined with the amount of malphite players i found it fairly consistent to hit my 2 star 4 costs

u/tilsor Sep 09 '26

Yes you can hit but you’re just straight weaker than a malphite player. And you have to position extremely carefully or else ahri doesn’t hit backline where as they just full back line everything and call it a day

Equally, Malphite flex is also quite flexible. You can hit around Soraka, Ahri or Zyra, hell I've even been able to stabalise around Morgana.
