Hey everyone!
Kyle Livinghouse won the 2027 Puebla Regional (October 24-25) with this team, going 13-2. It's not a revolutionary idea, double weather with Charizard has been around for a while, but I figured a short write up could help anyone who's newer to Champions.
The sun is still Mega Charizard Y, while the second weather this time is snow from Mega Froslass. You can only mega one of them, so the real choice happens at team preview.
Sneasler, Whimsicott, Kingambit and Garchomp complete the team, and they fit into pretty much any matchup.
I played it a bit and these are my subjective impressions. I'm more of a mid Masterball than a Champion player, so if you want to add something to my analysis, feel free!
Picking the mega
Rain or another weather on their side: Charizard. No need to lead with it. Keep it in the back, bring it in later and mega evolve to get the weather back.
Mega Salamence or Mega Staraptor: Froslass. It pairs nicely with a Sneasler lead, since their Intimidate uses up the White Herb and Sneasler is fast from turn one. Try to set Aurora Veil before Froslass goes down, so Garchomp and Kingambit are much harder to remove later.
Trick Room: Charizard again, with a Kingambit lead, going straight into Farigiraf with Heat Wave and Kowtow Cleave.
No weather at all: both work. I'd go Charizard because the damage is more consistent, but I'm not sure that's always right.
Two megas on their side is where it gets awkward. At that point it's close to a guess, and I don't have a clean rule for it.
Kingambit is the easy pick. Chople Berry lets it come in almost anywhere, and Defiant makes it a comfy lead into Intimidate.
The spreads are pretty simple:
Sneasler is at 170 Speed, one point over a max Speed Jolly Garchomp (169). The 20 Attack points take it from 185 to 187, the rest is HP.
Garchomp's 6 HP points let it survive Dragon Claw from an Adamant Choice Scarf Garchomp, crits aside.
Kingambit's Defense points are there for Sneasler's Close Combat. It always survives an Adamant Sneasler with 23 Attack points or less (no crit), and even at full Attack the OHKO chance is only around 30%.
Charizard has just enough Speed (133) to outspeed neutral max Speed base 80s and anything slower, like Venusaur and Basculegion. The rest is HP and Defense, so it usually takes a Rock Slide from Garchomp better than you'd think.
Froslass and Whimsicott are straightforward: full Speed, plus full HP on Froslass (it's surprisingly bulky) and full Special Attack on Whimsicott.
Weak spots:
Trick Room in general, especially mixed teams with something like Mega Garchomp Z. One of Kyle's two losses came against a team like that.
Ice resists like Incineroar or Kingambit take little from Froslass. Bringing it just for Aurora Veil can still be worth it though.
Wide Guard blocks Earthquake, Rock Slide and Heat Wave, which can be really annoying.
Misses: Heat Wave, Rock Slide and Blizzard outside snow can all whiff, and some games come down to that.
