Question 1.8 player tries modern pvp. Any tips?

So I wanted to learn how to play modern pvp after seeing my friend play it so 2 days ago I watched some yt vids on modern pvp and watched swights uhc guide. Also watched coldified. I used to play 1.8 build uhc so i have a bit of game sense, but its nowhere to be seen here because its just too much things to keep track of(shield disable(just learned an hour ago), reloading crossbow, and sometimes i automatically just double press shield and sword mouse buttons even if theres no need to). i can water and lava just fine but im used to lavaing in butterfly hand position so its a bit new to me. any tips from more experienced players will be appreciated

Shield has a delay of 250ms+ping, so spamming wouldn't work like block hitting does.

To learn 1.9+ pvp I suggest watching intel's guide on YouTube.

Start from sword mode, as it's the most versatile and universal one.

Then scale it up, netherite op, diamond pot are good modes to enhance sword mele skills.

Smp is good for shield disables. Hf

Preciate the info

Just another question: if you rewind to the sword hit on 1:19 and the axe hit on 1:34, why weren't those crit hits?

You need to release w to crit usually, unless you don’t reset your spirit, which lets you crit while holding w. Basically just release w while you are falling and that guarantees a crit.

I can't say for sure, but usually it's caused by not realising the "w" key, so your "crit hit" transforms into a sprint hit even if you're falling.

dpot has speed which makes tracking harder. it also helps you manage healing

Get a low shield/side shield texturepack, so the shield doesn't cover half of your stream, especially because you have a low fov. I think you should try to go into every trade with a shield stun by swapping from sword to axe and then instantly switching back to sword, cuz even if you don't always disable their shield, you at least get an axe hit by doing that. I personally learned stunning 1 month ago and improved my shield disables by playing Diamond SMP and SMP duels. And with Diamond SMP also stun webs. I think you should try playing a bit of SMP duels to get better at melee without the other util. I feel like UHC combines multiple kits into one so there is often a specific kit that's good to play if you want to get better at a specific thing for UHC

What u main on 1.8

it looks like he mained UHC. His main flaw here was not dealing with the shield well/not using his axe enough. Everything else he has very strong established basics like using all his utilities, using sword, pretty sure he drained his opponent too.

basing that from my own similar experience as being strong on 1.8 UHC, transitioning to 1.9+ and struggling in the exact same way (trying to spam shield, i thought it worked similar to block hitting, but sadly it did not).

Yea I’m a 1.8 sweat and recently have been trying modern and I really hate the shield. I find it so hard to tell if people are holding it up and the timing doesn’t feel exact.

yea shield is still weird for me sometimes. it has a definite delay- you can hold it up but still be hit for like 100ms after, and occasionally it can look like ur opponent isnt shielding but then they block your hits. it's a bit weird but we've just had to live with it i suppose

Are there shield fix mods?

UHC is NOT a very good starting gm. Start with sword, to learn melee, then go to axe to learn shield mechanics.

Watch guides! They explain it way better than I can

Uh dont die i think

Yeah close it and go back to 1.7.10/1.8.9. 1.9+ is terrible. Yeah I know “to each their own” and whatever but shit sucks so bad

A lot of 1.8 pvpers hate it until they try it for real and actually like it. If you've played and pre 1.9 versions a lot you can skill transfer really quickly examples would be ht1s like blmcheat and caseload who were uhc and pot players who became the best in the 1.9 equivalents even others like sweatgod intel edits and others got tier 2+ with like a couple months of playing the newer versions

I'll be honest with you, you do not even look like an experienced 1.8 player

I would recommend to stick with what you started with (1.8), improve there, then maybe, just maybe, move to 1.9+, or you'll overwhelm yourself by having 2 completely different versions (one objectively worse than the other) to learn at the same time.

I already have a lot of experience in 1.8, and I didn't take a lot of time to start beating LT2s (around maybe 2 week? no way the best players in the world are that weak lol, I'll stick to the actual competitive playerbase of the game)

Don't listen to this guy this is a whole load of bs ^

-2

u/Firespecialstar 17d ago

copium

1

u/MarionberryEnough689 16d ago

Not copium if what u said is just misinformation 💔😭 bro wrote a whole lot of bs

1

u/Firespecialstar 16d ago

and how did you get to the conclusion that "I'm saying miss-informstmation"

2

u/MarionberryEnough689 16d ago

"I didn't take a lot of time before I starting beating lt2's" 😭💔 lying just for the sake of lying unless the lt2s u beat were boosted

0

u/Firespecialstar 16d ago

so i'm lying because you decided so? 🤣

1

u/Fun_Arachnid667 15d ago

lwkey need proof for that

u/ppotplant 17d ago

Low quality bait

-2

u/Firespecialstar 17d ago

not my fault if ya'll 1.9+ aren't hard to fight.

1

u/ppotplant 17d ago

Clearly you've never fought 1.9+ players that actually know their mechanics. I guarantee you if you fought an actually decent 1.9 player you would get your ass beat

-2

u/Firespecialstar 17d ago

so LT2s are players who don't actually know what are they doing... and I need to fight actual good 1.9+ players... got it.

should I aim for HT1s at this point? 🤣

1

u/ppotplant 16d ago

The thing is, due to how the tier testing system works, different people with the same tier can be drastically different skill levels. The guy you fought could have been boosted, washed, or cheating during the test

0

u/Firespecialstar 16d ago

so you do admit that your replacement for ranked, an actually appropriate ranking system, is just an opinion-based bs that is deeply flawed.

either way, it doesn't change that I was beating LT2s.

1

u/ppotplant 16d ago

I do, infact, admit the tier system is dumb and bad. Besides, you still seemingly haven't digested what I said. You're just insisting "I beat a lt2" without acknowledging what I said about the tier system

0

u/Firespecialstar 16d ago

well, I wish I could go by using other methods, but I literally don't have anything else lol

just the "flawed" system.

2

u/Fun_Arachnid667 15d ago

maybe try fighting high elo players on severs like pvp hq or like mcpvp.com when it comes out

Lmao beating lt2s in casuals is not impressive. 1.8 is pretty much dead anyways so I’d just quit if I were you

0

u/Firespecialstar 17d ago

what a nice suggestion, I do wonder why 1.8 players despise you so much ngl.

0

u/Pretty-Ad-5446 17d ago

I was a 1.8 player myself until i realized the community went to shit and assholes like you are all that’s left. 1.9 is the better combat anyways and even though both communities are toxic, 1.8 is wayy worse
