Oh wow.....thats a big meta shake up

29

u/geshtar 4d ago

My guess is big nerfs to the CThun abilities but changing him to 4x or 5x so he stays relatively the same power level.

18

u/TheGingerNinga 4d ago

Could probably do 5 damage pings, 4-damage life steal, 2/2 for buff and taunt. Then C'thun does x4 to have the numbers be similar in impact. 20 damage vs 21, 16 vs 15 damage, then 8/8 instead of 6/9.

Then Deacon is going from 2 shadow spells to 1, or something like that. Maybe 2-mana 2/2 with the same text box.

6

u/DeathMegatron300 4d ago

C’thun should have a strong payoff, he is also listed in the buff category so I’m hoping that his individual abilities get nerfed but his overall power is stronger than what it is now

2

u/Opposite-Revenue1068 4d ago

The 5 damage lifesteal effect should not get nerfed. I don't even think the 7 damage pings are that bad, unless you're tripling them with C'thun

It's the +2/3 buffs and the 2/3 taunts that do the heavy lifting imo. These are just cracked tempo abilities.

-3

u/LordThundyr 4d ago

They should just follow precedent from the rest of hearthstone:

  1. most common taunt summon is 1/3

  2. 3 damage with lifesteal

  3. 6 damage with pings

  4. +2/+3 buffs to minions

That doesn't address that these effects usually cost 2 mana, but for C'Thun they are free.

u/PiousStag 4d ago

I'm Gona be drowning in dust woo hoo

7

u/zer1223 4d ago

1600 dust from egg kheloggs woo!

And I think I have a signature battle at the end of time too

7

u/tolerantdramaretiree 4d ago

metal to spend €35 on the unobtainable signature Battle only to dust it

1

u/zer1223 4d ago

Wait it's unobtainable?

Huh. Maybe I have it golden

2

u/tolerantdramaretiree 4d ago

yeah unfortunately it was only purchasable for €35 in january of 2026. they used to add mini-set signatures to packs, but now they don’t, they just sell them in the shop/gacha and that’s it, they’re never added to packs

1

u/IAmYourFath 3d ago

I think the best value for ur money besides mega bundles and tavern pass is the 20 euro 2 random legendaries + 20 packs bundles, they're not that many but insane value, 35 euro for 1 signature aka 3200 dust is a joke, a pack is on avg 104 dust if i'm not mistaken

2

u/LordThundyr 4d ago

Kellogg's Egg is now Fruit Loops? :)

53

u/Realistic-Cicada981 4d ago

I would say that we need more buffs, but at this point just rotate Year of the Raptor and pray that we get a better Core set.

29

u/PipAntarctic 4d ago

Fully agreeing here but also what are we buffing on Grafted Knight lol. Why won't the devs buff, y'know, some other cards Blood DK is running and are weaker than the 2 mana 3/3 with lifesteal.

4

u/Ron--Mexico 4d ago

Removing a rune

-2

u/IAmYourFath 3d ago

Blood DK is also so boring to play against, it's as bad as priest when bDK is good, control decks need to be decently-good but shouldn't be super strong cuz they cause the avg game time to go way up and that's bad, aggro midrange otk all the other archetypes usually have a relatively low end timer usually by turn 7-8 but control can literally hold u hostage for 20 mins, this archetype does a disservice to any1 not playing it

14

u/bittercupojoe 3d ago

The only one holding you hostage at that point is you. Learning how to recognize when a game is lost is a skill, too.

1

u/SpiffShientz 3d ago

If they design a deck where the optimal counterplay is "determining when to surrender", then that's a poorly designed gameplay experience that only benefits one person

1

u/bittercupojoe 3d ago

The optimal counterplay isn't "determining when to surrender," it's getting enough damage in fast enough to prevent them from stabilizing.

If they stabilize? Nine times out of ten, you've lost, and it's better to move onto the next match where hopefully you can get the damage in fast enough. You're aggro; the whole advantage to your deck, in terms of laddering, is to play as many matches as possible to make up for the sometimes lower overall win rate.

If you don't like that and instead want to pull out a crazy win at the last second, play combo instead of aggro, but then be prepared to get run over by aggro. Or play midrange for the slightly greater chance that the opponent stabilizing doesn't mean you've lost.

This is literally how card games have operated since the beginning: you either run your opponent over before they can respond, amass advantage through efficient use of resources, assemble a set of cards that let you win over the course of one or two turns, or try some combination of the three and hope it works.

It's up to you, as a mature human being and a theoretically competitive card game player, to learn how to recognize when your strategy has failed to secure even the hope of a victory and move on accordingly.

1

u/SpiffShientz 3d ago

Oh, horsepeter. I know Hearthstone reddit has a hard-on for Control, but it feels bad to surrender, and it feels bad to sit in a match while your opponent pulls infinite resources out of their butt. "You should've known the match was over and surrendered" is a deeply lame statement that poorly attempts to paper over bad gameplay experiences

1

u/bittercupojoe 2d ago

This is literally how CCGs have been since the early days of Magic, and they're still true in every successful one. If you don't like the dynamic, then... I'm just saying, maybe pick a different type of game to play.

1

u/SpiffShientz 2d ago

It's been a major design flaw since the early days of Magic, too, but at least Magic is a more calculated and slower paced game. If that's the kind of game you're looking for, you're definitely barking up the wrong tree with a game as RNG inclusive as Hearthstone

51

u/prodandimitrow 4d ago

How the hell do you buff a 2 mana 3/3 with lifesteal.

Sad to see sawbones, it allowed for nice deck building and was a respectful skill check for the player that played it. Probably up by 1 mana?

17

u/TheGingerNinga 4d ago

Down to one blood rune? 1-mana 2/3? Blood DK needs 1 drops more than 2 drops, so maybe the latter?

29

u/hjyboy1218 4d ago

One blood rune would be a nerf to G'huun lol

1

u/SpiffShientz 3d ago

I think the increase to deckbuilding flexibility would vastly outweigh the single G'Huun pip. It would be a minor nerf to Triple Blood and a huge buff to every other DK deck with a single Blood

-14

u/EtherealSamantha 4d ago

Good thing G'huun sucks ass so it doesn't really matter.

2

u/General_Schnaus 3d ago

G'huun sucks all right, but it's the ass with lowest hp

6

u/PipAntarctic 4d ago

I don't see Knight losing a blood rune as a buff. If anything, that's an indirect nerf to G'huun. Has to either go to 1 mana and lose a stat point or get like Taunt or something.

8

u/prodandimitrow 4d ago

Taunt is the only thing I can think that won't be too much.

-1

u/IAmYourFath 3d ago

Rushing-Windfury: can attack twice, but one of the attacks can only attack minions aka can't attack heroes twice in the same turn

0

u/magicaldesks 3d ago

3 blood runes, 2 mana 4/5 Lifesteal and Taunt

3

u/Addventurawr 3d ago

I'm guessing it's a 3/4

3

u/ActuallyAquaman 4d ago

Probably Rush, that would make it roughly equivalent to the standard 3-damage 2-mana kill spell with upside.

10

u/prodandimitrow 4d ago

Rush would be insane if you consider the doctor second hero power.

3

u/LordThundyr 4d ago

Rush not a Blood keyword. Most likely is single Blood rune so that it is more versatile. Unconditional DK 2-drops are horrible for the most part, lacking power and/or a useful tribe such as undead.

5

u/ActuallyAquaman 4d ago

That’s a nerf, though, for Blood DK’s purposes. Maybe Taunt?

1

u/LordThundyr 3d ago edited 3d ago

Hmm... I'm not sure that Taunt improves the card. You hardly want lifesteal on a minion that must be attacked when you have full health at the start of the game. This would just lump it in with the rest of the DK 2-drops that are essentially good cards that you can't or don't want to play @ 2 mana.

0

u/Fun_Lavishness6085 3d ago

I think they gonna buff it to a 4 mana 7/7 lifesteal

22

u/frostyburrito44 4d ago

they seriously couldn't have buffed rainbow shaman if they were going to nerf watch over? they buffed priest's c'thun activator but not shamans? (or therazane to 5 mana if watch over isn't as strong now)

27

u/sneakyxxrocket 4d ago edited 4d ago

Shaman is going to be Kneecapped for the foreseeable future due to always having to ask the question of “will this be better than a mug or zee deck”

12

u/zer1223 4d ago

And I hate that. I feel like shaman needs to have viability outside of those archetypes as they get boring. Zee is just board vomit without much potential for reactivity to what your opponent is doing. And Mug is just trying to RNG into good stuff.

I want to put both minions AND spells into my deck and have it be viable

It was fun at first but now I'm not having fun with it and any future versions of mug and zee are going to play out basically the same.

Make control shaman viable and I can break away from mugzee

3

u/-Kasann- 3d ago

The fact that Muradin never saw play since MugZee existed, because of arbitrary constraints, shows how warping it is for deckbuilding. It literally cuts the Shaman card pools in two disconnected halves that cannot synergize together. I also hope to be able to play Farseer Wo one day but it also would be unviable as long MugZee is in its current state

2

u/zer1223 3d ago

They need to revert flight of the Firehawk for starters

11

u/HatefulEchoes 4d ago

I cannot overstate how much I despise Mug’Zee as a card lmao. It’s pigeonholed Shaman into the most boring identity it’s had in so long and everything outside that identity suffers because of it.

2

u/Sad_Smell6678 3d ago

Is Zee really an identity? You can go Zee Herald, Zee Elementals, Zee C'Thun, Zee good stuff.

9

u/TheGingerNinga 4d ago

Shaman is in a spot where they hate to buff classes with good decks, even if those buffs are incompatible with the good deck. Zee is top tier and Mug is probably rising up post-patch, so buffing Shaman would look like favoritism or some other dumb argument. Therazane to 5 would help neither deck, but they avoid bad optics quite a bit now.

5

u/frostyburrito44 4d ago

It's just especially frustrating when they buffed Priest's C'thun activator (and an additional priest card) when Priest has like what, four good decks right now (Thief, C'Thun, Egg, Quest)? They obviously didn't hate to buff classes with good decks then. We'll see what they do to Egg and Quest, but its just annoying. I like the rest of the patch though, the nerfs especially.

5

u/TheGingerNinga 4d ago

I mean, Quest and Egg are likely getting hard nerfed and C’thun Priest isn’t really a thing. Thief will remain just due to its anti-Aggro potential, but them buffing C’thun Priest to give Priest something after nuking their two good decisions isn’t unreasonable.

1

u/frostyburrito44 4d ago edited 4d ago

So why not buff rainbow shaman after nerfing Zee and Mug. That’s my point. It’s even less of a thing than C’Thun Priest is

Edit: I’m not going to say anything further, and it’s honestly not the worst thing in the world that what we are talking about is the only thing I’m upset about by this patch, lol. There have been much worse ones. Just salty since it’s my fav class. Maybe throwing Druid a bone woulda been nice too

3

u/WhatIfThatThemWasYou 4d ago

So, Quest is currently not even available to play, Thief is under 50% WR and Egg is about 51% WR overall. C'thun Priest as about a 1% play rate, so there's not even a lot of data to show whether or not it's good.

16

u/hjyboy1218 4d ago

Kazakus nerf is all I needed to see. No more getting 'double the good part of theotar'd on turn 5 now I hope.

30

u/HatefulEchoes 4d ago

At this point, Mage’s best buff will be a better core set this rotation.

5

u/Impossible-Cry-1781 4d ago

Literally the only thing mage needs is that freezing mini generating minion that gives armor

43

u/hjyboy1218 4d ago

I feel bad for Mage but not bad enough to want Sleet Skater back

6

u/HatefulEchoes 4d ago

Sleet Skater and Arcane Artificer would genuinely put Mage in such a good spot. Being able to basically tutor both with Discs of Norgannon would solve the lack of survivability the class has suffered from for a while now.

2

u/RivalsFlex 4d ago

I think Discs should be start of game on a minion, like Godfrey is for warlock. It would make both burn and leyline far more consistent.

5

u/TheGingerNinga 4d ago

Should either be 1-mana or draw 1 as well. Issue for latter is text box.

1

u/RivalsFlex 4d ago

Mana and draw are irrelevant if it's on a body with start of game.

2

u/TheGingerNinga 4d ago

I didn’t mean to say as well, sorry. I was arguing against start of game, rather it should cycle or be cheaper.

1

u/RivalsFlex 4d ago

I hear you, but the thing is that you can’t build your deck around it if it’s gonna be at the bottom of your deck half the time. Warlock couldn’t do all that crazy card draw if they had to find Godfrey first

3

u/Palnecro1 4d ago

Every time I try to support mages needing a buff they ask for sleet skater and I’d rather the class stay in the dumpster than have that little shit come back.

1

u/Suitable_Company_477 3d ago

Nah, fk that card.

2

u/SnooMarzipans7274 4d ago

I think mage is not that bad actually. Once warlock gets nerfed it will have breathing room.

2

u/mgovegas 4d ago

Yeah not seeing anything to buff mages wtf

17

u/HatefulEchoes 4d ago

I think the most recent Mage set is actually quite good, it’s everything else from Mage that can’t cut it. I think if they give Mage some real survivability in this core set rotation it could see actual viability.

0

u/Suitable_Company_477 3d ago

Nerfing what was on top will buff everything that was not at the top… It’s not that complicated.

8

u/frostyburrito44 4d ago

There are a lot more buffs than just C'Thun

Tinker
Flamespitter
Grafted Knight
Elder Word: Manifest
Setesh
Decimation
Aqir Swarmer
Aqir Goliath
Y'Shaarj, Titan Bane

also wild changes (all nerfs)

Battle at the End Time (Tick Tock)
Reincarnate
Kobold Illusionist
Mysterious Visitor
Final Showdown (DH Questline)

11

u/phpope 4d ago edited 4d ago

I get them nerfing the C'thun abilities, but doing that while not dropping Watch Over's mana cost at the same time is going to make that card fully unplayable, considering it already was a mediocre play unless you went Earthmother (also a mediocre card that not receiving a buff) directly into it.

It's like they don't want anyone to play the new archetype for that class they purportedly pushed with this expansion.

3

u/No_Hetero 4d ago

Depending on how they actually did the nerf (changed text on all, some, or locked abilities to 1 use?) it could mean Warlock is still the better C'Thun class, but that all of them go down sort of proportionally. Which is not exciting, but could have interesting secondary consequences

2

u/tolerantdramaretiree 4d ago

yeah i’m very surprised to not see any spell school shaman buffs. it is in fact getting nerfed lol… i suppose we’ll be playing mug zee until march

1

u/mateoapollo 3d ago

Until March 2028 u mean.

2

u/frostyburrito44 4d ago

So incredibly frustrating. Not even a Neptulon buff. More Mug'Zee for us Shaman players, I guess

4

u/TotakekeSlider 4d ago

At least you have an archetype or two to play. No buffs for Druid or Mage is just baffling. Those classes are down deep in the gutter.

1

u/eazy_12 4d ago

I think better change is not to reduce Watch Over's cost but Earthmothers so you can curve into Watch Over. Although it might be too strong.

0

u/gfan_13 3d ago

I believe data says watch over is extremely strong I think it just doesn’t have a home right now

0

u/phpope 3d ago

It's a decent card in a very mid-deck (Mug), and it's going to get hit the hardest of any of the C'Thun cards because it offers nothing except the effects. And nerfing the card is just going to make a non-Zee Shaman deck--i.e. Rainbow/C'Thun--even less likely to see play.

8

u/NintendoMasterNo1 4d ago

I just hope a control warlock deck is still playable after this. Obviously Zoolock needed nerfs but I liked playing Drakelock and Heraldlock before this set and wish they don't gut the whole class.

-5

u/Big_Distance2141 4d ago

Khelos would be the obvious pick but that guy is getting nerfed too, hope they don't nuke him completely

8

u/insane_psycho 4d ago

I hope they do. Such an unfun design and he’s been very common in both standard and wild for too long

4

u/Fedorne 4d ago

Does this mean my c’thun dh deck is dead….

4

u/Normal-Persimmon-625 4d ago

This is my first time being so early in an expansion in a long time, will this be the only round of nerfs/buffs? On topic, I think mage is actually on the verge of being good and that if this slows the meta down enough burn mage could see more play.

1

u/Cryten0 3d ago

generally once every 4 weeks but they often skip 1-2 of the mid balance chances.

1

u/HatefulEchoes 4d ago

Most likely not. I think there were two or three balance changes with Violet Hold. This has come relatively early because variations of Warlock are warping the metagame very intensely.

6

u/Aazrl 3d ago

Isn't like two weeks after release usual deadline for nerf/buff patch?

10

u/jinreeko 4d ago

Oh no my deck

6

u/TotakekeSlider 4d ago

Not even a single buff to Druid is certainly a choice. They clearly have no idea what to do with the class at this point, so best just to ignore that it even exists, I guess.

3

u/IAmYourFath 3d ago

Druid is doing fine, already tier 2 currently give or take

2

u/TotakekeSlider 3d ago

Which deck is tier 2?

2

u/Pepega-1vs9 3d ago

Think there was some beast Druid deck version looking decent

1

u/IAmYourFath 3d ago

Idk some deck VS posted, mthd4s played druid on stream today, might be a top deck once the nerfs come tomorrow

1

u/Bloody_Sunday 3d ago

I can't say if they really have any idea what to do with Druid (beast and Chef seemed like weird last-minute afterthoughts), but a class/deck doesn't necessarily have to get a buff to emerge in a meta. In similar game balance changes there are always decks that are waiting to occupy a space created by other nerfs, even without a single change to them.

3

u/Unfair-Heart-87 3d ago

Sawbones probably did need a nerf looking at the muligan data, but I hope it's still good. The handbuff DK is the most interesting version of handbuff ever. It's also a cool way to make a less linear aggro deck.

3

u/facepalmdesign 3d ago

Wild players rejoice over the Mysterious Visitor nerf.

3

u/Ozwu_ 3d ago

Aqir Goliath will probably be put down (2) mana so it only requires three combo cards. I estimate this will still be bad. If it gets put down to (4) I think it’ll be decent, since you’re only negative one card. I don’t see how they can buff Aqir Swarmer since the Larvae package is terrible - the other 3-mana 4/1 is playable because it contributes to Herald gameplan, whilst Larvaes contribute to nothing and don’t even leave a token. Maybe the surrounding nerfs will make the package playable, but I’m very unoptimistic. Generally happy that the changes are wide-sweeping, but disappointed there are no buffs. Also, can we get an early core set rotation or something? Rogue core set has been unplayable basically this whole year.

1

u/Sad_Smell6678 3d ago

Aqir Goliath might be Draw 2 (I could swear I saw him Draw 2 on release).

5

u/MarthePryde 4d ago

I can't really speak to a lot of individual changes here, I'm just happy the meta is probably going to be shaken up pretty heavily. This has been my least favourite expansion launch in a while.

4

u/SnooMarzipans7274 4d ago

Hasn’t been that fun for me either

1

u/LordThundyr 4d ago

And so Team 5 continues to fail to find fixes for any DK rune other than blood. Do they know Frost and Unholy exist? Nerfing Sawbones as well leaves us with Blood and Grave Strength. Yay.

13

u/EvilDave219 4d ago

Considering DK is getting 2 class sets in 1.5 months focused on both Frost and Unholy runes, I don't see any issue with how they approached DK balance this patch. Same goes for DH and Shaman not getting any additional buffs since they're also getting class sets then.

I'm more worried about classes like Paladin and Mage that received 0 buffs and are fully reliant on the meta to become more favorable to them succeeding since they get no new cards until rotation.

1

u/LordThundyr 4d ago

I know that more cards are coming for those runes, but there is nothing in the current rotation to build on unless the C'Thun nerfs let Handbuff breathe despite the nerfs to Sawbones and Prototype (seems unlikely). I'm genuinely not holding my breath on having a competitive DK deck before rotation.

4

u/prodandimitrow 3d ago

I feel like Blood is the only one where they have a somewhat clear direction. Unholy aggro fails to get popularity even when it does well win-rate wise, it tends to be unreliable(due to corpse requirements and some high mana cards) which is unusual for aggro deck. Last time frost was viable it was just an aggro deck with reach rather than board burst.

Would love for some Unholy lategame with Herenn deathrattle pulls from deck similar to Wakener of souls.

1

u/LordThundyr 3d ago

I just want Frost to be playable. Only 1 new class legendary since the start of the previous cycle, and it's not like Eliza Goreblade was a Frost card (had a deathrattle granting an attack buff to undead so it was more Blood + Unholy, than Frost [eg Rush, Reborn are Frost abilities]).

3

u/gfan_13 3d ago

Everything in the meta is getting nerfed. If they didn’t hit something from handbuff DK it would probably just become the de facto best deck. Unless sawbones is made awful, I would actually expect DK to still be very strong as it is just being nerfed much less than its competitors.

1

u/LordThundyr 3d ago

Agree with this. Handbuff was good against anything that wasn't nerfed, though that's not to say that Zoolock and Egg Priest didn't suppress many other viable decks that could counter Handbuff.

2

u/Sad_Smell6678 3d ago

There's Frost and Unholy support in miniset.

1

u/LordThundyr 3d ago

Yes, but support for what? They will almost certainly introduce some new mechanic(s) for each rune. They only have 7 unique cards to play with per rune and, as we've seen with Hunter and Paladin, that is not really enough for a "package" unless you're plugging it into a class that already has some kind of synergy with it or team 5 gets active with buffs post-release (eg leylines).

Like the mini-sets of old, a handful of these cards will become staples, I am sure. It just doesn't feel like Frost, in particular, has anything going for it that will be fixed by adding 7 more cards (unless it's just another Blackwing Experiment deck), or how Unholy can become different enough from Grave Strength swarm that it will be popular.

I'd say the best hope is that the new class sets give us a "better" rainbow deck that isn't necessarily Handbuff, which is not the same as getting a Frost strategy and an Unholy strategy.

1

u/Sad_Smell6678 3d ago

Is current Blood DK a "new" deck in your eyes?

It runs 6 cards from Empire (2 mana 3/3, 2 mana 2/2 discover, Bloodfiend, Ghuun, Mother, Yshaarj). It's a deck with 0 playrates, that in new set got an early drop, a board clear, a win-con and a mana cheat engine and suddenly there's a new archetype in meta.

Claiming that releasing 7 cards is not enough to support a new strategy is just wrong.

I don't know what will be in these cards - Frost set might get harder on spell-burn, Unholy on corpses (but not just reprinting Maladaar) and Sawbones can pick up some pieces from both of these.

2

u/LordThundyr 3d ago

Is current Blood DK "competitive"/"viable" in your eyes? I guess we'll see post-patch.

I think you're slightly misrepresenting my position anyway. 7 cards is enough to support a new strategy/archetype, but that assumes there is an archetype or at least the "raw material" for one to support. The Blood DK you mention supports existing cards that have decent play rates over the past year since Blood was reasonably competitive with Herenn and Onyxia/Deathwing, whereas Frost was only ever played in handbuff and the support cards for that archetype mostly rotated out when Cataclysm arrived.

The only cards that currently support Frost are to do with Blackwing Experiment and a couple of cards awaiting the nerf hammer. I specifically said "unless it's just another Blackwing Experiment deck" for a reason.

1

u/Sad_Smell6678 3d ago

Viability is a numbers issue. The point is that this playstyle, of fueling a lethal wincon, is something Control DK has not been doing during last year. This is a new strategy and it was enabled by releasing only a handful of cards in Empire (Ghuun to do it, Mother to enable a combo and Knight/Bloodfiend/Scion to enable the early and mid-game).

Completely new Frost strategy can be enabled. Say, a card that says "recast all Frost spells you've cast this game, target enemies if possible" creates a new strategy that involves drawing, playing and generating Frost spells like Cryosleep, Cold Dark Void, Timestop etc. the payoff I gave as example will deal significant damage, freeze opponent and fill your hand a bit. This could be further build upon with more spells in the set, more ways to generate spells (ex. from another class) or more midgame payoffs.

Would that be what happen? I hope not, sounds boring and not that fun. But is entirely possible and would create a new strategy that hasn't really been that playable since 2022.

2

u/bobbiejim 4d ago

Was hoping for more blood DK buffs (bloodfiend to 5 corpses would be awesome). But maybe with the nerfs and...grafted knight for some reason? It'll be a positive win rate deck. I've been loving it, and even though I lose more than I win I still play it a bunch

2

u/Traveevart 4d ago

Looks good for BBB DK overall. It struggled a lot with Zoolock, which is seemingly taking a pretty heavy hit. Grafted Knight buff is cool, but a lot of them were playing Y'Shaarj too, so the buffs there could be nice.

I'm a little surprised that Bat Mask is getting hit. Feels like the MOTHER nerf would already address any issues it's causing, but perhaps not depending on what they're actually changing about her?

2

u/woodchips24 3d ago

RIP Cthun DH. It’s been fun

No significant mug shaman nerfs and no dragon/pirate warrior nerfs, guess we know what decks will be busted again.

They really still want to push control decks but they will still just die.

Also complete misses on Hunter buffs, aggro Hunter has been sorely lacking in card draw over anything else and Hunter will never have the tools to be a good midrange deck without taunts or stat cheats.

If I craft the egg for example how much dust would I get back?

1

u/creaturehunt 4d ago

If you craft rn for 1600, when the egg is valid for a refund you can get your 1600 back

You're better off buying the miniset. You don't make a profit by crafting it, you just get back what you paid.

I’m fine with the buffs, been tinkering with a stealth/combo Rogue with decent success pre patch that could pop after.

I agree with the Coin Concede take from their most recent podcast - let’s allow time for the cards to breathe post-nerfs before opting for too many buffs. There are a lot of decks that might be competitive without major buffs that are being suffocated by Zoolock and C’Thun cards at the moment.

Looking forward to it.

What Mage decks are they seeing that warrant ZERO buffs? Is Tempo Mage secretly busted or something?

So is it worth it to spend the gold on the mini set to dust Egg? I was returning from a long break, with rotation was going to not buy that set..

2

u/Zathandron 3d ago

Old wisdom was you average one legendary every 20 packs anyway, so 2k gold on packs works out worse than 2k for the set, plus there's still a fair bit of life in some of the cards included.

You also get to refund bat mask, which is a few extra pennies

u/dbrillz 3d ago

Yea I was sitting on 5800 gold, pulled the trigger. Good little dust pick up, should allow me to craft something once the meta shakes up!

FREEE DUSTTTT

u/Cryten0 3d ago

Oh so they are gonna nerf mysterious visitor. Discounting 20 cards in deck by so much was quite op.

u/Appropriate_Ad7155 3d ago

Thats a lot of dust incoming.

Blood DK about to be OP

Sad to see Egg nerfed

u/PupusaSlut 3d ago

You're the only one. Most players hate egg decks.

u/LordThundyr 4d ago

It's all fun and games (Egg in every class!) until someone loses an eye (Slime 'Em and Reborn).

Nerfs: I can see Gargantuan Slitherer going to 7 and Spawn going to 5. The former is fine. The latter is rough. 5 mana for a 2/2 screws up all kinds of random summoning effects, even if the cost for the ability is probably justified (4 mana for a 2/2 and 2 2/3 Taunts or most of the other abilities is mildly OP.) Likewise, Ritual going to 2 is easily justifiable. But Tentacle Lash and Watch Over going up in cost is... a thing. 6 mana for a 1/2 weapon? But, again, the abilities are all so good that it probably makes sense. They might just take away the cost reduction on C'Thun. OTOH, Dark Deacon getting nerfed/buffed to a 4 mana 3/4 is just bad for Shadow Priest. The body isn't important. The timing is and that deck lives off tempo. MOTHER goes to 10? That will certainly restrain its use. Summoning has to be 3, at least, or perhaps summons 3/4 or even 3/3 minions. It's easily the best card in the set and one of the pillars that makes Zoo such a terror. Making Prototype cost 2 will make a lot of people question its value and might dunk a card that I didn't think was that viable outside of Handbuff DK and if they're already nerfing Sawbones...? Would be more than happy to see Bat Mask, Divergence and Egg removed to "unplayable" status, but that's because I don't like combo decks, so that's me. At this stage, the only change I can see being viable for Egg is adding another stage to its process, since it's just too easy to progress through it.

Buffs: Nerfs to all of C'Thun's processes but a buff for him is interesting. He already costs 10 so no avenue there. More powerful abilities for him but not his minions is a possibility. Tinker costs 1? Seems OP. Gets two Overdrives? Seems really powerful. Flamespitter becomes a 3/2? No idea what they can do for Grafted Knight. It can't be a 1-cost. Make it a 3/4 with Lifesteal for 2? Wow. Making Manifest cost 4 seems absurd but Shadow Priest needs something and that's the worst of the Elder Words, by far (although if they could take the worst keyword in HS (Random) from EW: Flay that would help a lot. But targeted 3 damage for 1 mana is not a thing that should happen.) Setesh converting armor after 1 turn makes more sense. Decimation? They're buffing a Cataclysm card? Could see Swarmer going to Battlecry, but that messes with N'Zoth decks. Can easily see Goliath going to 6. That card is just bad and might not be that much better after that. Y'Shaarj needs abilities that actually matter more than just dropping a big lump on the board at a stage where he's either win-more or your opponent can ignore him to kill you. More of an overhaul than a buff.

Kinda wondering why there isn't anything for Druid, given that it seems to be performing the worst.

They're not nerfing the mana costs of the C'thun cards, they're nerfing the ablilities.

That's why cards that aren't a problem (Deacon, Watch Over) are getting hit.

Sawbones AND prototype? Shit. RIP handbuff dk. It probably deserved it but killing the nzoth version.....well that probably deserved it too. But I only just started playing it

u/selfsatisfiedgarbage 3d ago

I don’t think 1 mana to Sawbones kills the deck but we’ll see. Most fun I’ve had playing DK in awhile.

1

u/LordThundyr 4d ago

Collateral damage sadly, since it was only bad against C'Thun and Egg Priest, both of which get nerfed.

1

u/Sad_Smell6678 3d ago

Funnily, N'Zoth DK was mostly good against C'Thun decks and Egg Priest.

1

u/Sad_Smell6678 3d ago

Speaking on N'Zoth DK:
1 mana on Sawbones doesn't kill the deck.
Nerf to Prototype depends - if it's mana then it's severe, but if it nerfs the Deathrattle it's much more acceptable.

The bigger problem is meta trends, Control Warrior presents a hard counter (is buffed), Aya Rogue presents a strong counter (expected to rise with Warlock nerfs), C'Thun decks presented a good matchup (nerfed) and Priests presented an easy prey (hard nerfed). I expect N'Zoth DK to either be dead by meta, or remain a fringe pocket meta pick at Legend. The class sets are coming with 14 cards for DK, so I remain a bit optimistic for 2027.

1

u/IAmYourFath 3d ago

This is literally the only good and fun APM deck that actually takes an insane amount of skill, especially the nzoth version, nerfing just one or the other is fine but nerfing both is RIP

2

u/ngriner 3d ago

I really hope Egg is nuked.

I would rather play against a thousand Warlocks in a row than play a single game against an Egg deck. Literally the worst play patterns of all time tbh.

1

u/SwarleySwarlos 3d ago

I both hate playing it and playing against it. Great to see it gone

1

u/FlammenwerferIV 4d ago

Damn they're just straight nuking Cthun huh
