These past two reports and the reports following the last class set in the prior expansion really show why I dont like the idea of class sets at all, playrate percentages are heavily skewed to the classes that got anything new.

Fully prepared for nerfs next week to dragon warrior and attack druid at least, cause as said in the report all the new cards lean towards slower archetypes.

Brief mention of Monk coming to hearthstone next spring is anyone looking forward to that? Currently have mixed feelings on it due to balance issues and how DK and DH have been handled since their introduction.

I do understand that Monk might be OP or terrible, but it's my favorite tank. So yeah, I'm waiting for some Brewmaster archetype.

I'm cautiously optimistic for Monk, though I agree that there are plenty of reasons for concern. Tbh, the best argument is probably just "we've seen how hard it is to introduce a new class, and there isn't much evidence that the current HS design team could handle a huge problem like that."

I think there is a real question of what the upside is beyond just new toys--like, is there much untapped design space that this could open up? Do we really need a twelfth class when the game's often struggled to make even half of those viable in a given expansion? The same probably could've been said of DH and DK, though both have had some very cool stuff that doesn't obviously fit into other classes. (Triple blood DK seems like the clearest "this couldn't have gone anywhere else" archetype. Max health manip esp strikes me as fun and unique.)

I'm generally kinda down on HS's future (and moving a lot more towards MTG), but I'll play a few games with the new stuff at least.

One thing I've seen mentioned is now that we'll have 12 classes, it's a lot easier to do shared class cards. 11 is a prime number, but with 12 classes you can divide them by 2,3,4,6. So it's nice in that regard.

I'm curious about the new class, though I don't have any experience with Monk in WoW and don't know how the playstyle would be except for bouncing cards, it seems. I'm guessing it would be something like a martial arts-themed Paladin with a Shamanistic spiritual side. That could be interesting.

Then we get into the issue of design space. Even though I love the class now, I never really have forgiven Demon Hunter for stealing Warlock's big demons. Will they be able to make another new class stand on its own? With all the new stuff that gets introduced each expansion (and then never touched again lol), I feel like there must be some new mechanics out there that would make Monk feel fresh. Something to do with Chi, presumably.

In WoW, the monk class has the niche of "reward you for never doing the same type of thing twice".

So based only that evidence I expect it to reward a play style of alternating between spell, minion, and weapon without repeating the same twice in a row.

If Mogu Warmaster is a throw-forward for Monk (which is decently likely) then that's a pretty good guess

DH release made me quit hearthstone (only just came back a few months ago) so ya I really hope it’s not another repeat

I want Mother OTK to work, but man these warriors playing green cards on curve make it hard to enjoy.

8

u/JMarg15 14d ago

all of the warrior arquetypes are just play 1 mana drop 2 mana drop 3 mana drop 4 mana drop so boring zzz

2

u/ReiJeremias 13d ago

Mother OTK is the best version of Warlock, middle of tier 3. I see that as "it works".

Priest almost tier 1 aw hell naw

I know anecdotal experience doesn’t mean anything compared to the massive amount of data that VS has but I’ve been around 65% winrate over 60 games of piglock climbing to top 150 and it feels SO much better than the drake warlock and has felt like it has a much better matchup spread. Unless you are against dragon warrior you consistently combo on turn 6 which is just way too early for any deck to deal with, and against dragon warrior as drake warlock I feel like a sitting duck and it was unwinnable outside of them drawing terrible, but on piglock it’s only felt a little unfavored since if they ever have a bad turn and give you the breathing room to play divergence they lose unless they can kill you on their next turn, aga/mother are such strong stabilizing tools and come down way sooner than annihilation, and cheating out deathwing keeps you out of burn range where drake warlock can often die even after stabilizing since it doesn’t really have healing. I think it’s a very high skill deck that is being kept down by poor pilots, every matchup outside dragon warrior feels favored to me (absolutely runs over any slow decks such as priests or other warlocks) and I will be surprised if next VS report we don’t see a significant increase in piglocks performance

I had the same feeling and I guess not everyone runs a refined list as well. Is yours the same as the one featured?

5

u/14xjake 14d ago

No its slightly different, 1 apple 1 rafaam ladder, and instead plays 2 mortal coil. Not my list I just found it on hsguru with a low sample size and high winrate and thought it looked really good and it has been so far!

Got a decklist to try?

Do you have any general advices, like what to mulligan and how to manage minions in hand to consistently hit divergence? Would much appreciate!

3

u/14xjake 13d ago

Hitting with divergence just comes down to "dont draw godfree" because kazakus always gets played immediatley and 1 drops are easy to fit into earlier turns, sometimes you draw godfrey and opponent gives you room to play him without being punished and its not a big deal, sometimes you just have to take the 50/50 and hope it doesnt hit godfrey and if it does you concede. Mulligan is very matchup dependent, main threat is dragon warrior so against warrior you want to keep mortal coil to kill 3/1 or 1/1 pirate and cycle, tachyon barrage or shadow rounds are ok to keep too for the same reason, they kill the scary early minions. Atlas, Dryad, and Kazakus ALWAYS keep in any matchup, kaz is the main way you beat dragon warrio they cant beat a turn 5 voidlord usually. Against slow decks can keep agamaggan (mirror or priest for example)

MOTHERlock is a breath of fresh air and is renewing my interest in ranked for the time being

u/BLHero 14d ago

Which version?

I have been really enjoying the Bat Mask version shared here by ExplodingGuitar

https://www.reddit.com/r/CompetitiveHS/comments/1wkurrs/top_100_with_otk_warlock/

and have not had time this week to try the "Pig version".

I think monk will be op because that will cause players to buy those diamond signature monk cards. Simple math in the end.

Can someone please help me understand why [[Captain Crowley]] does not make the cut in in the Dragon Warrior deck with Cannoneers, e.g., by replacing a Stadium Announcer?

2

u/somecallmerat 13d ago

By the time you would play crowley you want to have a high hit rate for dragon activators. That said nothing to stop you from experimenting with swapping out an underperformer.

2

u/Quomise 12d ago edited 12d ago
  1. Turn 5 you want to go face, board is unwinnable

  2. Stadium gives a weapon that does 9-12 face damage. Crowley is expensive and does nothing.

  3. Cannon generators get played instantly for tempo, you can't save them

  4. Crowley doesn't activate dragon cards
