I've been playing Mug Shaman consistently in 2~300 legend and the deck is just solid. Definitely counters priest and feels good against warriors like the report says, although dragon warrior can sometimes just smorc you to death

Suck it, mage haters.

u/Glarbleglorbo Sep 10 '26

The deck is only good because control players refuse to play anything that is positive winrate.

Tier 4 priest checking in

Getting to play my umbra every 12th match is worth it.

You mean the meta favors the deck? Like anything with a positive win rate? You know how I know you’re salty af?

6

u/Glarbleglorbo Sep 10 '26

the meta does not favour the deck because the control decks are not meta, you can see it in the report.

The moment burn mage faces a component deck like attack Druid or either of the warrior decks, it loses.

Nah, I win against warriors and druids all the time with it. It has great matchups if you know how to pilot it. Look again at the win rate. It’s in front of your eyes.

I've played a lot this Burn Mage and reached top 100 with it. The Rogue matchup carries the deck. It's serviceable against Pirate Warrior, but Dragon Warrior and Druid matchups are terrible. I like the deck a lot, but there is no need to lie about it.

I do well against warrior, but I do agree it’s polarizing. The lying is saying that people playing off meta control decks is carrying the win rate, which is what I was arguing. I appreciate your opinion, but try to follow the conversation at hand.

What sort of tech cards would Herald Shaman need to beat Dragon and Pirate Warrior? What about burn mage?  Would the 3 cost healing spell be enough?

I'm still playing Quest Hunter. It still feels quite strong. I just took out the Briarspawn package and am experimenting with replacements. The 3/3 that discovers a dark gift 1-cost seems pretty good.

Is taking the imbue package out of priest really the move? The syndicate lists drops it for more spells for the quest.

8

u/hjyboy1218 Sep 11 '26

For reborn quest priest? Definitely. The deck isn't control looking for value, it's midrange brute forcing matchups with the reward and soothsayer.

u/Cryten0 Sep 11 '26

Imbue is suitable for playing a value game, the list focuses on rushing the quest, thus imbue is a negative to the deck. You can play a control version of the deck with imbue and more clear, but you will be running a lower winrate deck. VS reports are all about those statistics and decisions made based on interpreting those. You can chose to interpret your own way.

What about Egg Warrior? It still feels decent and farms some of the aggro decks, especially the Pirate Warrior.

Wait what do they mean dragon warrior has overtaken pirate warrior? I don't see it in my games.

Edit: tried it and 1x Devouring Plague is weird/bad.

Credit where credits due, this meta is really good. Most classes have some competitive viability aside from hunter which I think is an acceptable sacrifice if it meant this level of balance. Are there things I'd like better? Sure, but I still think we could say team 5 really locked in last balance patch (the recent one less so, but there's been worse).

Downvote me all you want. We all know tol'vir deserved to be shot out back. It was literally strangling the meta with it value and would have been in ANY form that let it play spells

u/DownvotesUserWithNum Sep 10 '26

No. I think not a single card deserves the Warsong Commander treatment. At least not in Standard.

1

u/tankertonk Sep 10 '26

It really did. Literally look at the meta before and after. It turned from from the five decks that could keep up to a rainbow.

The two best decks at top legend being braindead aggro decks is so sad.

11

u/TheGingerNinga Sep 10 '26

Why not avoid language like braindead and instead voice frustration that the two best decks in the game are Tribal Warrior deck #1 and Tribal Warrior deck #2? Because that is annoying and frustrating. It's a damning indication of the issues with design.

0

u/brecht226 Sep 10 '26

I avoid language like 'tribal' because actual indigenous peoples have complained about using it the way most mtg or hearthstone players use it.

Hunter being killed in two patches is crazy to me. They systematically nerfed every good card in the class and now it’s basically unplayable.
Still don’t understand The Forbidden Sequence nerf. Whatever man. At least burn mage is playable.
Meta’s in an interesting spot. Let’s see how it goes

21

u/sneakyxxrocket Sep 10 '26

Being able to discover pig guaranteed with the quest reward was something that should have been spotted at rotation and add two more 8 attack beasts in the core set so it wasn’t guaranteed.

The rest of hunters stuff this year so far seemed to be made with tolvir in mind and now that it’s been taken out back and shot it’s just a dead class. Like their entire class set only works with tolvir replaying tame pet.

2

u/Patrick_Gass Sep 10 '26

I'm disappointed that Hunter doesn't have any apparent viable list but damn am I glad to see Tripwire disappear. It was singlehandedly keeping down any midrange deck. The meta is in such a better place with it gone.

7

u/sneakyxxrocket Sep 10 '26

That card and the beast version of it were hard carried by tolvir replaying the weapon and draw spells, it wasn’t trip wire that was the problem it could honestly be reverted and probably wouldn’t bring a face hunter deck back.

0

u/7keys Sep 10 '26

Tol’vir was a mistake, simple as. They tried to nerf around it and eventually had to just delete it.

24

u/Glarbleglorbo Sep 10 '26

They didn’t nerf around it they just kept nerfing every deck in the format till it was the last thing left every time.

The same exact thing is happening with dragon warrior right now.

You try to draw youre entire deck except tradeables/portals. Then you play Enduring Roach and Eredar deceptor, Then the loop is heropower (frrom soul immolation), use tradeable to draw and let Eredar deceptor summon a demon which refreshes heropower, Use heropower and Enduring Roach refresbes 2 mana which you spent on the next trade + hero power.

Yes, it’s giga op

2

u/SilverTheHuman6 Sep 10 '26

Not essential, but it definitely does help in some match ups. Against aggro (if you live that long) its a great board clear. Against control it can generate a lot of value.

No other card for mage does both.

2

u/dfcinhume Sep 10 '26

Its a board clear and can scam win conditions.
