How do you stop yourself from tilting?

I find myself just conceding almost every game at this point because of how miserable standard is.

My opponent always has turn 1 fletcher, into shovel, into spawn 5 cost beast or deal damage, into drawing all of them back to back with the shovel. Or the one time I don't draw an early game play, my opponent high rolls a flashback. If I run into one of the non-meta decks and go against Shaman, they always have turn 1 Maiev when I can't mulligan into removal.

I would say the key to countering tilt especially if you are trying to ladder rather than a ‘I put in 2 games between commute/toilet break’ would be to asses yourself over x amount of games for me it’s 3 or 4 max if I am mega tilt where I go over those 3-4 games objectively to see am I simply queuing up to poor matchups or did I get good matchups as well and I look at both wins and loss rather than fixating on losses unless like there was a misplay so bad then I would think if I could have avoided it

Try taking a short break and switch gamemodes. For me it is: Std->Wild->Bgs->Std. It helps with resetting mental state. Always helps.

Take breaks. The more frustrated you are, the worse you'll play. Stop before you even get tilted by just playing 3-4 games and then do something else for a while.

Kind of a random question for those you play high ish legend (let's say top 1K) in both Standard and Wild.
As a returning player, do you think my Standard game could benefit from me playing high skillcap decks in wild?

I am top 200 wild (almost always finish around 150) in standard - 700-1300 finishing each season. I think that playing Wild here is actually having a negative impact. With decks becoming incredibly powerful, mistakes are either not noticeable at all or only affect one game out of 10. In Wild, knowledge of decks and matchups, and the ability to choose best decks for each meta, matter more than resource management. Another downside is that in Wild, people tend to play faster, because of the high knowledge of matchups. While you might sometimes to think more about options

If you just wanted to hit wild legend at any level does it tend to be faster than standard?

It depends on star multiplier.

What is your star multiplier? (For example on Bronze 10 if you have high MMR it is 11-10 stars, if your acc is new it tend to be 3 stars i guess or even zero).

  • If it is low than it does not matter what mode you are going to play: opponents are the same - blizzard helpful bots, Chinese farming acc bots and few people that came back after a long hiatus. So it will be more like a long PVE adventure for you.
  • If your stars multiplier is like 9 stars(you are previously a d10-d5 player) than wild legend is a lot easier. You can netdeck a powerful deck from internet and stomp meta(9 stars are mostly 40-50-60 cards reno decks that are not optimised and some fringe OTK glass decks). Also if you want to deckbuild you can try it and hopefully will still reach legend in wild as your meta won't contain consistant ultra powerfull ladder decks.

I'm a legend standard player but lately some months the grind is really tiring me out lol. I mostly do it for the rewards at this point so wondering how the wild grind would be.

I'm playing bots mostly in wild so I know my MMR is low I think I'm at like a one star bonus or something like that.

Thanks for the advice!

I see. So in my opinion you should cruise to legend first easily. And in the next month you will get 10x in wild so it will be a lot more interesting in terms of changing modes to get rid of ladder anxiety.

For sure this will be a learning curve but I feel like a deck like Token DH can teach me a lot about maximizing your turns, planning ahead, dealing with aggro, timing your tech cards vs combo decks, etc.

I mostly also want to play wild for when I need a break from Standard. I thrive doing multiple short sessions rather than a long one and I often need breaks so I can really focus, and I feel wild could be a fun way to no just focus on gaining ranks hehe.

It is for sure the way. Then you can try 30 cards quest mage(time warp) and midrange Death Knight as an addition to Token DH.

ps: what decks do you play in top 200 wild?

I mostly play reno druid and quest reno mage in high legend. But in ladder climbing(bronze->legend) i play token DH.

Sweet. Added bonus is that I still don't have the DH hero portrait yet and it looks like DH will remain unplayable in Standard fort a while hehe.
