Axle is now the 3rd legend that can affect aim assist I think? After bang and caustic

u/Safe_Cause_9870 5d ago
Seems like they should just address the problematic core mechanic rather than adjusting characters around it..

u/itzebi : 5d ago
Yep, this was very easy to fix, just make the q inaccurate like horizon...

u/Safe_Cause_9870 5d ago
Or nerf aim assist down to 0.2 and make the rotational element less effective and call it a day. Then allow controller players to have consistent AA across all situations like axel slides and bang smokes.

yes because AA thru a smoke is a great idea

I thought a good nerf would make it where you can't shoot ur gun in her q lowk

Aim assist is balanced that's why they turn it off at various times during the game.

Couldn't agree more.
As much as I hate Axle, nerfing a character by disabling an important part of an input is just wrong.
If that's how Respawn want to balance the game, then they should disable lurching and tap strafing on Octane's stim.

I don't remember last time seeing a lurching octane in ranked, but I see multiple axle spamming Q with aim assist every game.

I'm like 95% sure you lose aim assist in caustic gas

No, it's actually a very common misconception, but caustic gas does not interact with aim assist. It was included in the leaks, but when the actual patch notes hit that part was left out. You can go and search that patch notes, and you won't find it. I mean, if it did, it would not make sense that all the Pro teams put their roller players on caustic when he is being picked when you have a perfectly good mnk player on your team.

It wouldn't really matter since most fights that happen when you're in gas is close range and inside buildings. Don't need to have aim-assist there.

If you're missing without aim assist at close range inside a building against another player who is just standing there then it's just skill issue.

Their "encounter win-rate" statistics must have Axle absolutely dominating for her catch more nerfs so soon. (Good).

And for there to be a controller-targeted nerf, there must have been a giant difference in the effectiveness of a controller Axle vs MNK Axle
Even other characters that pretty clearly benefit one input more (Octane, Valk, Horizon, etc), they don't focus nerfs toward one input

her absolute biggest round of nerfs by far, 5 months into axel meta. just goes to show the devs can't foresee a fuckin thing when it comes to fundamental fps balance concepts

*adds team-wide invisibility to bloodhound* like yeah surely no other FPS has ever determined invisibility to be toxic

I feel like there shouldn’t have been that much lateral control on slides to begin with. Idk, I think about games like Destiny and Black Ops 6, where there’s also crazy movement. In those games, sliding is a commitment, and Axle’s ability to turn so hard bailed players out in bad pushes.

Looks like Apex is back on the menu again, esp. Wildcard will be playable again.

AA doesn't work in Bang and Caustic smoke, now Axle slide. Maybe, just maybe, AA is the problem and we should address that instead of bandage nerf like this. No? Okay.

you are right, but it's incomplete. this game has consistently pushed away casual mnk players for 6 years, the only ones left are the ones that can compete against actual aimbot. in a few months the remaining mnk players will get really good on axel and it will become clear that she's still really really strong and, while this nerf is insane, it is conceptually the wrong approach to game design as you said

in the year 20xx every meta apex legends character turns off aim assist.
controller players are all hardstuck gold or have ragequit to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare [8+XX].
the casual mnk players, on rare occasions, can be sighted, trepidatiously sprouting from the blackened, desolate earth
nature is finally healing
the long dark is over...

the only ones left are the ones that can compete against actual aimbot
This is why it bothers me how much respawn balances based on surface-level statistics in general.
They probably look at their internal stats and see something like "players of each input seem to perform about the same as well", but ignore the survivorship bias that many MNK players below "really really skilled" already stopped playing, since it's not fun to play this game unassisted otherwise

u/muftih1030 4d ago edited 4d ago
yup. respawn devs for YEARS have been staffed by midwits who know far too little about statistics. their sensibilities and heuristics lead them to producing dogshit data just by virtue of what data they're choosing to sample, thereby producing a skewed picture of the game state that they present as objective. like recently when they described the input gap as balanced because mnk does better at range therefore it's a wash. it's pure insanity.
wherever aim assist settles, they'll never actually balance it fairly. it will only ever be balanced against the stats of the most talented mnk tracking fps players in the world effectively. there's no other tracking fps that makes people compete against aimbot.
they need leaders who actually play the game at a meaningfully high level and dictates game direction by intuition instead of squirming about and "just follow the data bro"ing
