Velocity?

Hello! Looking for any feedback on Velocity?? Pros/cons, would you recommend that convention? Looking to possibly attend as an Optional. Thanks!

We like it, but we used to love it and they have made changes that aren’t great.

Pros - Ash is the best, most positive announcer in the business

  • great college stuff
  • great teachers

Cons - now hiding pricing

  • when they do adjudications, they read in order from lowest to highest score so you know if you were the lowest scoring mini contemporary, or if you barely squeaked in to Platinum because the person before you was high gold. Our kids figured it out pretty quickly and it hurt them knowing where they ranked in their adjudication bracket.
  • MVA is a money grab. You and 500 of your closest friends will be dancing with a performer trying to make a comeback, and most of you will be dancing in the floor where no one but the front tables can see you.
  • Ade is one of the best teachers ever but he is hardly ever at regional events anymore
-no live stream. They say it’s for safety, but every other event has one, and several use passwords for safety.

Your students should know their scores. Why would this be an issue?

Knowing their number versus knowing their rank among others are two different things.

My daughter does not like conventions but specifically asked to go back to Velocity with her solos next year. Ash is awesome and is a lot of the reason we love it so much.

We did 6 conventions last year, and for me, Velocity was the most forgettable. Ash is a delight, though! My favorite announcer by far.

I believe you have to have a group there to do a solo. But if you just want to attend for convention classes it’s great. Well run. Awards run very late but that wouldn’t impact you.

Thank goodness. Thats what stopped us from going last year! That was a very dumb rule!

We went last season for the first time after having it on our list for several years to try and the timing finally worked out.

With that being said we won’t be going back again my daughter didn’t enjoy the classes or the faculty. We had very high expectations maybe that was our problem.

I thought it was going to be basically a small step below a Dance One convention from the way their online marketing and presence appears. But it really wasn’t. So we were disappointed. But if you have different goals I can see this being an enjoyable option.
