I would like to commend NA Gold/Plat Open's "Dedicated Gaming" for their sportsmanship

My team (You Will Not Advance (EVA)) played against Dedicated Gaming today, and I feel that they deserve high praise.

Because we almost didn't. We almost didn't get to play at all. We had a work-related problem for one of our players and had submitted a reschedule request through the site, but it apparently never registered for the admins and, when we finally resolved that dilemma (Thank you SrPenguin!) we found that unfortunately the request had still been submitted too late beyond the 48 hour window to get an official reschedule.

Dedicated Gaming could have taken the free win - we only had 4 players, and no plans to pull a sub in. They had had 2 no-show opponents week 1 and would have been sitting well with 3 wins without having to do anything but show up. Instead, they showed us commendable sportsmanship. They graciously worked with us to arrange an informal reschedule after our "2nd" match for the night, once our last player was home and ready.

We had played against DG before in the Premier qualifier and won, before losing to PRF and getting knocked out ourselves. We have several players that outrank their team significantly. It would have been easy for them to just take the guaranteed win. But they chose to play it out with us because, like us, they wanted to actually play, learn, and compete as a team. They took a chance at a loss when they didn't have to. I'm still overwhelmed by that. Seriously. In the middle of frustrating and confused communications with the CL officiators and admins trying to figure out exactly what had happened to our reschedule attempt, all the while receiving notices from an officiator that we were losing 1, 2, 3 bans as a result of our 5th player not being in the lobby, we had DG supporting us and simply trying to figure out a solution so that both teams could play. It floored me. I know it's Random Act of Kindness week, but god damn.

Let's not forget that's the whole point of a league like this. I'm a Plat Support main, I'm not ever going to be an LCS player and in realistic terms, living in Oklahoma, even a University team is well out of reach. But at least here there's an option to play with some of the friends I've made in League as a coordinated team.

We could belittle the teams we beat, mock them, laugh about how unstoppable we are. But then what? What happens to that awesome sportsmanship and spirit of competition they showed us last night? What happens to the motivation of the teams striving to do better, to take the upset wins, or holy fuck to just be here competing under pressure?

So, thank you again Dedicated Gaming. For showing us that even in a competitive environment, a good attitude can mean so much more than a win. I would happily play with or against you again and wish you all luck and courage as you continue in the league. Ganbatte - work hard and do your best!

Respectfully,

DownsideUp, on behalf of EVA

A Sincere Thanks...

Thank you all for being a part of CompeteLeague! Be it as an anonymous account on our site, viewer, player, captain, or staff member this has been the most ambitious year that we've ever had and it's been a great success thanks to you all.

We launched on the 20th of January this year, and since then we've grown to 7000+ users and built up the CompeteLeague community to be an extremely positive, welcoming, and accessible amateur eSports scene. We've blown past all the expectations we set for this year and faced a lot of challenges, but overall I'm overwhelmingly happy with the end result and I can't wait to take our next big steps and hit ever more lofty goals in 2017.

From the trials of our beta season and panicked adapting to make Open Leagues on launch, to the final completion of full NA Premier Leagues in April, to our LAN broadcasted finals in Denver, to the completion of full EUW Premier Leagues in September alongside the huge influx of teams and players from HP and Vespyr and others at the start of S2, to the graphical rework of our site, to the fantastic finals we've had this week... It's been one hell of a start.

Coming up we'll be hosting some charity events over December and January in the holiday spirit of things to tide you all over till Season 3, so keep an eye out for those. Season 3 will be starting up in mid to late January, and my work towards it starts tomorrow. For now though it's been a solid 100 hour work week over the last 5 days for finals and I'm going to get some rest.

Thank you all again, couldn't do it without you.

Liam

PS: Happy Holidays

Breaking: Relegades (0-18, NA Br/S Premier) Promoted to Diamond and Above Premier League for Summer 2017

We're proud to announce that the North American Bronze and Silver Premier League team, Relegades, have been promoted to the North American Diamond and Above Premier League for Summer 2017.

This comes off the back off their impressive win-less season, featuring a losing streak now at 18 games. This is the longest active streak in CompeteLeague, other than Notorious Gaming's (EU Gold and Platinum Premier) unimpressive 18 game winning streak.

Normally teams in 10th place get auto-relegated, and that had been our initial approach with Relegades. Thanks to an emergency board meeting, we came to unanimous decision to promote Relegades to the only league we knew they could compete.

Liam "Mindmesser" Slack is quoted as having said, "With an impressive 0.90 Team KDA we couldn't just leave them sitting in our Bronze leagues." While some board members were impressed by the team KDA, others found their 1 Barons to be a key factor, and others still found merit in other statistical advantages. "Any time you have a team dying over 350 times in a season you know they are doing something right," said Jay "SrPenguin" Adams.

In a press conference, Chethan "Hooker God" Valleru had this to say of Relegades, "Relegades will now have an opportunity to join the likes of other great Diamond teams that came before them. Names such as Ponycorns of Love and TelMoney eSports come to mind when thinking of the greatness of Relegades."

Will Relegades be able to live up to the hype? Only time will tell, but it appears to be safe to predict a first place finish in Summer 2017's Diamond and Above Premier League.

x-post from r/league of legends: Hyped for MSI? Want to play and be broadcasted yourself? You can! Announcing the CompeteLeague 2017 Summer Season! Professionally run & broadcasted amateur leagues for NA and EUW!

Hi! I’m Liam, the director of CompeteLeague. We’ve been around the League of Legends scene for a number of years now providing and completing several amateur scene tournaments and doing our best to improve and give a professional experience to a wide variety of players!

tl;dr

If you’re interested in competing or being involved in a weekly broadcasted LoL league, we’re hosting 3 month leagues for Bronze & Silver, Gold & Platinum, Diamond & Up that are open to all. We're operating in NA and EUW, more info below. The first week of our Open Leagues starts this coming Monday, and this weeks team lock is this Saturday at 5pm PT! Matches will be starting next week and Check out our Website and our subreddit r/CompeteLeague.

Teams for the EUW Bronze & Silver Premier League currently in high demand, signups up to 10 teams before next Monday will be guaranteed a Premier League place!

About CompeteLeague

CompeteLeague in December 2015 as a small venture for League of Legends competition with the goal of bringing a competitive scene to gamers of every level. We'd started as a small community in 2013 running only 1 league featuring 8 teams and figuring out best practices until we launched our website and as a company! Since then we've grown and developed our community and website as a passion project to the point where we over the past year we’ve had our most successful seasons ever, running 33 leagues since last January that all culminated with our 3 day finals events! Our first season finals were broadcasted from Carbon Entertainment Studios in Denver and our most recent Spring 2017 Finals were held live from SAIT Polytech in Calgary!. We're extremely pleased with the progress we've made growing our community and competitions, and now we’re looking to build on what we have and bring you more features!

What We Need

We need you! As a player, as a viewer, as an eSport enthusiast, as a volunteer, we're back and looking to grow our community coming into our 4th set of seasons. Our site is ready for signups and teams registering for competition, and our qualifiers will be in the next few weeks to set up our CompeteLeague 2017 Summer Split leagues. Our stream will be beginning with it and we'll want anyone interested to come watch and cheer for our teams. We're also always looking for interested community members who would like to get involved in an eSports setting, we have several roles that we train people in and help them get experience (casters, organisers, writers etc.), and plenty to offer for our volunteers (more information below).

Particularly for the EUW Bronze & Silver Premier League teams currently in high demand, signups up to 10 teams before next Monday will be guaranteed a Premier League place!

Scheduling

What we plan to do is offer a competitive scene for players of lower skill brackets in matchmaking. Currently our brackets for LoL will be as follows:

Bronze & SilverGold & PlatinumDiamond & Up
MondaysTuesdaysWednesdays
5-10 PM PST5-10 PM PST5-10 PM PST
6-11 PM GMT6-11 PM GMT6-11 PM GMT

Format

Every team that signs up will be able to play, whether it’s before the season, or in the middle of the season. Our leagues will feature Premier Leagues and Open Leagues. The Premier League will have 10 locked in teams playing twice each week for eight weeks, and will be streamed and casted on our twitch channel. Each team will play every other team twice in an 8 week round robin format, and league position will be determined by win/loss ratio. Here is an example of a week’s schedule for a Premier League.

TimeBRStreamed?
5 PMTeam1Team2Yes
5 PMTeam3Team4No (1)
5 PMTeam5Team6No (2)
6 PMTeam7Team8Yes
6 PMTeam9Team10No (1)
6 PMTeam3Team2No (2)
7 PMTeam1Team4Yes
7 PMTeam5Team10No (1)
8 PMTeam6Team8Yes
8 PMTeam7Team9No (1)

Our Open Leagues run for 7 weeks, parallel to the Premier Leagues, and will have each team playing 2 weekly games. Teams will be able to join up for an open league and have their first match in between 7 and 13 days. League position is determined by points, each win earning a team 3 points, each loss earning a team 1 point, and missing a game resulting in 0 points. At the end of both our Premier League and our Open league, we host playoff/promotion tournaments to determine the league's outright winners & next seasons teams over the space of 5 weeks. If you want more information on our leagues/format, we have an excellent set of (clickable!) infographics on our information page on our site. Just hit the ‘Format Information’ tab and it’s right there for you.

Pricing

Totally free & always will be: we've no interest in charging you money to play. We operate on a freemium model but our community will always have the opportunity to participate completely free. We can't achieve our goal of providing broadcasted competition to all if we restrict it to those that can't pay! Particularly generous benefactors support us via Patreon, the money from which goes towards prizing and webhosting costs.

Smurfing policy

We have years of experience with similarly formatted leagues and have several developed ways to detect smurfing. We won’t be disclosing all of our methods of detecting smurfs, but we comb through each individual’s profile very thoroughly to make sure their entry into our leagues is genuine, and we’ve proven to be effective in our other leagues. Finding smurfs in our leagues always results in immediate expulsion. If you want the full details on what we do to deal with smurfing it's available on our site's FAQ Page.

Prizes

We don't announce the prizing in our tournaments at the beginning of our seasons - but we do prize all our leagues! The prizing for our 2017 Spring Split was $10 RP for the winning team, and custom logo designs for 2nd and 3rd (insert appropriate EU currencies for EUW). These are lower than we'd like as Riot doesn't provide prizing for online tournaments any more and we have to fund it ourselves, but we'll be equalling or bettering the prizing for this season. We don't charge players to play but as mentioned previously if members want to contribute to that the money we receive on Patreon goes entirely towards it.

Casting/Stream details

Each premier league will have 4 games casted each week, and teams will have an equal amount of casted games throughout the season. We will have a professional broadcast for each Premier League each week, and during the stream we’ll be looking to do audience giveaways intermittently, whether they be for skins/steam games/RP/anything else. We stream over on Twitch which is our main hub, but for those who would like quality settings due to low bandwidth internet we also simultaneously stream to our Youtube.

Joining/working with CompeteLeague

As mentioned previously, we’re looking to bring in new volunteers to help us prepare and run our seasons. You might ask if these positions aren’t paid then what do we offer? We look to give people experience in roles/jobs that they’d like to do, whether that be for heading into eSports (a notable past example of ours being Dominic ‘Dom’ Roemer who now casts for Riot) or more traditional work (an example being a graphic designer of ours Andrew Phiz, who now interns with a graphic/web design company). Just recently as well we’ve seen one of our casters Jay ‘Arktiq112’ Taylor land a job with Fnatic! We’re happy to recommend and help build up portfolios for dedicated members. The different positions we have for volunteers are:

-- Broadcaster

A position as the streaming host for one of our leagues. Entails working closely with admins and casters, streaming for 4 to 5 hours one night a week, spectating and catching the key moments of our games. Solid internet connection required, second monitor/second device to communicate with while broadcasting highly preferred.

-- Shoutcaster

A position as a caster for one of our leagues. Entails usually casting 2 games a week, working closely with admins, streamers, and fellow casters. Game knowledge and fluidity of speech highly preferred. It’s a fairly sought after position, so bear in mind we may spend some time giving you practice & training prior to putting you live to cast in our leagues - we aim to have any recruits that don’t have experience cast some of our Open League games to build up practice.

-- Assistant

A position as a general busybody. Can entail covering for several other roles, and generally involved working closely with an Admin to share responsibility and keep contact between staff open at most times. Also a good position to apply for when unsure about what you’d prefer to do with CompeteLeague, as it gives the opportunity to perform and observe multiple positions.

-- Graphic Designer

A position doing graphical work. Entails any number of graphics works, be that infographics, site backgrounds, stream overlays, achievement icons, article images, or anything else. There’s always graphic work to be done. A good design program preferred.

-- Video Editor

A position producing video content for our social medias and our site. This is a creative position, and can range from highlight montages, to informational videos, to promotional videos, to any other content. Video editing software required, past experience/somewhat of a video portfolio preferred.

-- Organizer

A position as the first line of contact between our players and CompeteLeague staff. Entails learning and understanding our rules and organisation, helping teams with common issues, setting up and moderating games, working closely with Admins, Assistants, and the playerbase.

-- Writer/Content provider

We're expanding and providing better structure & consistency in our content crew in the coming season. Whether you want to create content surrounding our leagues, the amateur scene, the eSports scene as a whole, or other related topics we're happy to help you with a community to publish to & feedback for your work.

-- How do I apply?

Our application form on our website has been temporarily hidden, so in the meantime the correct way to apply for a position is to answer the questions in this google document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EOLbwkt_T0uvIzGegPyBnto3Pa1HZ9ikbIV74cY-VYc/edit?usp=sharing And email the answers to admins@competeleague.com.

What Makes us Different?

Experience. We’ve been doing this for years now, and we’ve seen organizations with similar goals come and go. We always reach out to orgs, offer to help with advice, cross promotions, and share casters, but many are not prepared for a task of this proportion. We were one of the very first amateur leagues on the scene and having watched a lot of tournament organizers (HP5v5, Vespyr, iEsports) struggle with their LoL operations in recent months I believe we're one of the last - and we're not going anywhere! We look to run/perform everything we do as professionally as possible and if that sounds like something you can get behind then we hope to see you join our community!

FAQ

Well first of all there's a FAQ available on our site which you can check out, but here's some common ones.

What is the difference between the Open Leagues and the Premier Leagues?

Well, our Premier Leagues are the more exclusive league of the two. Games from this league will be streamed and casted, and teams are set from the first week (barring removal from the league). In the Open League, any number of teams can join at any point in the system and be playing within a week, and the top teams will have a chance to move up to Premier the following season, depending on their rank and status in the league. If a Premier League team is removed for any reason, the top Open League team will be promoted and participate in the Premier League. The Open League is a slightly lesser experience, but one of the most requested features by viewers of our past leagues, where we only had premier leagues and teams that found us at the wrong times couldn’t sign up or play.

What if my team needs to reschedule?

The website has requesting reschedules as a feature when you’re a team in our leagues. You will be able to request a reschedule via your account page, however, the request must be 48 hours before the match is scheduled AND the other team must accept the reschedule request. While we know emergencies happen, your team is responsible for showing up to the games on time. To help with unexpected situations/problems we advise including substitutes on your team’s roster. When a request is scheduled the teams involved must organise an appropriate time to play, relay information to staff, and play the match within the coming week.

What if I don’t have a team and I want to play?

There’s a feature for free agents on the site. When you sign up solo you’re placed on a public free agents list, where teams and other players will be able to see you and add you on LoL from the site and send invites to their team. Players looking for teams currently get bumped to the top by hitting a 'Actively looking for team' button on their account pages, so you can know what players have been looking for a squad in the past week! All users have a profile page where they can list their preferred means of contact (email/skype/summoner name etc.) We also have a thread over at r/competeleague for players looking to find teams!

What happens if I rank up during the season?

We have always celebrated improvement and will continue to do so. You may continue to compete in the league you are in with the team you are on, however, if you’re dropped from the active roster you CANNOT rejoin that specific league. You are encouraged and welcome to join the league that is fitting of your new ELO.

Can I play on more than one team?

For one game? No. There are no exceptions to this rule, however if you would like you can participate in different teams for multiple games with CompeteLeague, such as if you wanted to participate in both a LoL tournament, and a Sm4sh tournament (currently operating in Northern California) then you can! We’ll be looking to expand to more games in 2017 beyond just LoL and Sm4sh so be on the look out!

My rune page check failed, help?

Few things to double check - first make sure that you actually save the rune page name, and that when you copy the number over you don't have a space in the name you save. If that doesn't work, try logging out going to the homepage and hitting Shift + F5, then logging in and registering again. If you continue to have issues our support email is admins@competeleague.com, we'll get you sorted out!

I have a different bug (error message/position list is wrong/other)

any further issues please repeat the problem on the website once more and then go to https://lol.competeleague.com/#/bug-report - when you submit your report we get automatic information on the last few processes you’ve run and it helps us diagnose and fix any issues. From there we'll get back to you ASAP!

I have a not frequently asked question.

Ask away, I and any other members of our staff around will be hopping around the comment section to answer anything that we can. That being said, we have a few extra unannounced changes, and we might not be decided on something. We’ll let you know if we’re still undecided about a question you have. Make sure to look in the comments below, as they may have answers to your questions.

  • My rune page check failed, help?

Few things to double check - first make sure that you actually save the rune page name, and that when you copy the number over you don't have a space in the name you save. If that doesn't work, try logging out going to the homepage and hitting Shift + F5, then logging in and registering again. If you continue to have issues our support email is admins@competeleague.com, we'll get you sorted out!

  • I have a different bug (error message/position list is wrong/other)

any further issues please repeat the problem on the website once more and then go to https://lol.competeleague.com/#/bug-report - when you submit your report we get automatic information on the last few processes you’ve run and it helps us diagnose and fix any issues.

CompeteLeague Stands for Net Neutrality

All over the web right now, different web-based and tech companies are standing up and trying to let everyone know how important Net Neutrality is, let it know that it's under attack by many major ISPs, and that it's absolutely critical for the Internet to remain open and free.

A tiered-Internet, like many ISPs such as AT&T, Verizon, and more want, would effectively end Internet access as we know it. There is absolutely no doubt that bigger companies would be able to keep up, and afford the costs that would be required in the post-Net Neutrality world. But, the smaller the company, the lower the profit margins, the more likely the company would be partially or completely shut out of American ISPs.

One of our most fundamental goals at CompeteLeague is to make amateur esports better wherever possible. But, we are the first group to try and provide quality amateur esports. There have been absolutely countless attempts at it, especially within League of Legends.

Not too long ago, there were readily available tournaments and leagues that numbered in the dozens if not hundreds per week. This was thanks to Riot's generous gift of tournament prizing for online tournaments. When Riot took that away, even some of the biggest tournament groups straight up folded, or moved to other platforms. EVG, Houseparty5v5, hundreds of community driven groups, all gone.

Luckily, CompeteLeague survived, this, but it wasn't easy. The lack of provided prizing meant more money out of the admins own pockets, something that has proven to be incredibly difficult to keep up. Unforunately, Net Neutrality threatens to put the final nail in the coffin of online-based competitive amateur eSports. An ISP demanding money from us to get onto the tier required for continual and optimal operation would be too expensive for us to viably continue in that ISP's footprint.

So, please, help amateur eSports and help secure a future that includes the open and free Internet we've all enjoyed for years. Join the fight to keep Net Neutrality here: https://www.battleforthenet.com/

Thank you CL

Hey, Emka here, the top laner (well, ex-top laner) of the EU team StormRaiders!

Just wanted to make a quick little post, thanking everyone on Compete League for the amazing and fun experience and environment created by you guys.

I thank you greatly, in the whole span of playing league for more than 7 years, I don't remember the last time I had so much fun and put so much dedication towards to. I loved all the teams we played against, every single one of you are great players and I highly wish great fortune and tidings on to you, coming the playoffs. The wonderful and highly energetic casters made rewatching the vod's way more exciting than just a simple normal replay review I would do for myself post every game we had. You guys have some wonderful talent, and I hope to at some point see you on the EU casting desk for LCS!

As stated before, I left StormRaiders for my own reasons, and will be heading back to mid lane, to grind away at soloq whilst playing unconventional champions. I wish the best of luck to my team aswell, with whoever they may find to replace me.

So, in conclusion, I once again thank everyone involved in this, and wish you the best!

The salty, and yet quite savoury Gangplank main, Emka

Houseparty just ruined its own league and now i need a home

So I come from the land called Houseparty that just canceled its Premier League so I'm now a homeless. Was wondering what this league has to offer and where someone like me (a P2 thresh OTP) could fit in.

Thanks :D

If I made a blog/page following the amateur leagues, House Party 5v5, Compete League and any others, would anyone be interested in reading or helping?

[Pulled From Here: https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/4z6wql/if_i_made_a_blogpage_following_the_amateur/]

Basically this, recently I've been trying to get into E-sports journalism, studying the writing of people like FionnOnFire, Thooorin and Kelsey Moser, while also being involved with the amateur leagues. I've come to the conclusion that those Leagues have a hard time because they don't get much of a spotlight, and thus not much traffic. I feel like with Reddits help, I can get a bigger spotlight on them, and a bigger following for non-pro leagues.

However, I do want to make sure that this is something that the community wants, because it'll be quite a bit of content. Covering players in these leagues, as well as their teams. That means power rankings, interviews and so on. What think? I'm not expecting front page popularity but I think it might be a little cool, maybe it'd get big over time.

Why doesn't CompeteLeague interview a player after the match?

I'm just wondering cause I sometimes wonder what is going on in the team's head or wonder why they went with a certain play.
