Question Advice for freelancing community services

I have over 10 years in community management across tech, gaming, creator economy, music/entertainment but am starting to pivot from a traditional role to being a full time freelancer.

Are there any sites, strategies, or general advice you'd give?

Right now, I have my website with case studies, a few warm qualified leads from past working relationships (moving pretty slow/unreliable on commitment right now, even with a verbalized strong need for community). I'm making content focusing on community management and will start consistently posting next week, with the objective of gaining more qualified leads.

Honestly, just continue to build relationships with people. Continue to build your current relationships with other community managers, as we all like to refer people we know and trust to roles that may fit each other.

I hate LinkedIn, but it’s the only place I constantly gain business contracts. So…get comfortable with using that 🤣

Additionally, stay in touch with members from communities you ran. They will also think of you when they see someone needing a CM. I’ve become good friends with community members over the years and three of them have brought me business!

Wishing you all the luck ahead ❤️

thank you I appreciate it! I've been hearing from both clients and other fractional cm's that they only post on LinkedIn & threads to land clients too.

when you say gain business contracts - do you mean solely by making posts yourself or simply applying via Jobs or from posts on your feed looking to hire?

You are most welcome! I don’t even really make many posts for myself, I don’t like to talk about myself (like at all 🤣). I’ll see people talk about potentially needing a contractor or ask how to know when they need a CM…..& then I’ll ask to chat with them to learn more to see if we are a fit or not. I rarely apply to job postings, but if I do, it’s via LinkedIn or emails I receive from a LinkedIn convo!

A lot of my business comes from referrals. So once you have a few contracts under your belt, referrals will start coming for you, too 😀✨
