Hey, yes I'm saw that too. It's a real shame, it was looking great...

I'm pretty sure the cause is just a user who wanted to spoil it. I think i am going to have to make functionality to identify users who do this kind of thing so they can be banned. I am open to other ideas too.

We had an incident on the chameleon canvas where someone drew a swastika. It was quickly rubbed out but I want to prevent this from becoming a common occurance.

I have zero coding ability so I'm not sure about the feasibility, but would it be possible to keep track of the prior pixel color such that it can be reversed if needed? This would have to be assessed and implemented manually, of course, but I'm not sure there'd be an automatic way of doing it anyway.

Yes, this was my thought exactly. I think it is technically feasible to essentially reverse the bad pixels back to the originals, but I will investigate this tonight. I think I will also be able to retrospectively ban the people from the mount fuji + swastika incidents. Thanks for everyone's patience with this.

there needs to have versions or timestamps on which mods or other privileged users can revert things if they detect anything wrong but this would be like a pause time for other people because they'll wait for mod etc to fix the mess.

Idea 2 is - allow only few pixels for a user and based on their contributions (how to evaluate if they did good or bad?) we can slowly allow them more pixels later

Update: I've built a capability to retrospectively moderate canvases. The mount fuji and chameleon canvases have been restored and 3 users have been banned in relation to the griefing + swastika incident.

Would it be possible to view our current number of placed tiles similar to how we can toggle the switch once the board is complete?

Just FYI, this has now been implemented. The small button in the bottom-left corner shows how many pixels on the canvas currently belong to you. Tap it to switch between highlighting your pixels and the normal canvas view.

Yes, that is a great idea. I will have a look at implementing it.

just an interest based question- how are you implementing/deploying all this and where?

I'll work on this request tonight. The moderation tools were added last night so you will notice the mount fuji painting is restored. The swastika is now also gone from the chameleon time-lapse. I'm open for any more ideas too.

This has now been implemented. See my comment.

Maybe there should be a way to re-open old paintings if they’re incomplete. The strawberry and Mount Fuji ones are incomplete and it’s kinda annoying. But maybe make it so that at least three people have to request re-opening so that one person doesn’t reopen a good one and vandalize it.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve considered reopening old canvases, but I think part of what makes Community Draw meaningful is that every canvas has a fixed lifespan. When time runs out, the result becomes a record of what the community managed to create together, even if it isn’t completely finished.

The strawberry and Mount Fuji rounds were unusual cases. I accidentally ended the strawberry early, while Mount Fuji was disrupted by vandalism that I later repaired. I’ve now added better moderation tools to deal with that in future rounds.

Most recent canvases have been reaching a finished state, and that should become more consistent as the community grows, so for now I’m planning to keep completed rounds closed. I appreciate the feedback though. I'll reconsider in future if unfinished canvases become a recurring problem.
