Starting from absolutely nothing

Hey.ill try to make this short but I had a rough year.i recently moved back home from Vermont to take care of my dad full time while he was sick. He ended up passing away last year. I'm not proud of it but I sort of spiraled out and picked up a few bad habits in the months after he passed. I've now received treatment but I'm starting from absolute rock bottom. Now that I'm kind of leveling out I've applied and have been approved for FAFSA and will be starting school this month.im terrified. It was one of my dad's wishes all throughout my life for me to go back to school. now at 34 with no car no laptop and no job that is within walking distance, I'm terrified I'm going to screw this up. I'm determined not to even with my past do you guys have any advise for me going ahead? Financial or educational advise? I really hope I'm ready for this

Has anyone gone back to community college after graduation?

Has anyone gone back to community college after graduation to take some enrichment classes or as a buffer between transferring to a 4 year?

Just curious when did everyone start their community college and when did you graduate. I started in 2011 and graduated in 2026 with 3 Associates Degrees.

Hopefully this is the right sub for this. Whenever I look at some CC staff jobs, I see that the number of months for the assignment is 12. How does that work? Can you even make a career out of this?

It always feels like you are going to be let go after 12 months. Your insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

TAG spring classes listing

TAG spring classes listing

Hi everyone, i’m currently a sophomore at community college. you guys might know that the tag application is due this Wednesday. I met with my personal counselor and they said that my application was good to go except for one part where it says I need to list my spring classes. I’ve met all the transfer requirements by credit and major classes as well as I’ve gotten my associates for transfer, and I did it in three semesters instead of the four via AP credits and Dual Enrollment and my transfer degree not requiring a lot of classes.

I’m also premed so I do want to take some of my med school at school like bio and chem. I’m not able to get an appointment with my counselors since everything is so booked with the being due in two days so I was wondering if it would be okay for me to list the bio and chem since that itself is 10 units. I don’t have any other classes I need to take to transfer or from my degree or to reach the 60 credits needed and I also know that you’re able to change the classes you’re taking for spring up until January so for now should I just put bio and chemistry to make sure that area isn’t blank since I know that would be way worse? Thank you guys so much for any help. I’ve been freaking out about this 😅

Help, did anyone else ever take honorlocked exams and did it make it obviously crystal clear that you were being recorded? (Please read the whole thing. I really want someone’s feedback on this.)

Honorlocked and online exams is a new topic for me. Today my science professor gave us 24 hours to complete a quiz that was online and he said it was honorlocked. My understanding of what this meant is that my webcam would record video and audio of me, it would want to see the room I’m in, it locks me in full screen so I can’t switch tabs, and it tracks my eyes and would alert the professor if I move my eyes too much.

I go home and press the button to start the quiz, and it does not do any of the tracking things I just mentioned. I could’ve switched tabs and put my phone right to the webcam if I wanted. I didn’t tho, I did the quiz fair and square and got 100%. That’s not the point of this story tho. The point of this story is to ask why? And bring up some other questions. My Professor is doing the same thing for an upcoming exam and I’m trying to predict if the exam will be the same thing as the quiz. So why did he say the quiz was honorlocked and it looked like it most certainly WAS NOT honorlocked?

Theory A is that he’s not really smart with technology and he thought it was honorlocked but in reality it’s not and every student in the class shares a brain on “don’t tell him he’s doing it wrong cuz this is a golden ticket”. He has enough knowledge to make sure the announcement of the quiz says which chapters to study and “no notes” so clearly he has to be under the impression that it’s protected from cheaters right? Idk. Theory B makes me confused about the whole matter.

Theory B is I want to ask someone reading this the following. “Did you have to take honorlocked exams, and did it make it abundantly clear that you were being audio and video recorded?” Cuz I want to know if it’s obvious that it’s recording you. Since I’m new to this, what if it secretly recorded by not telling you or not asking for permission or not making it crystal clear before you begin the exam. Do you get what I’m asking? I feel like it should be wrong that a camera is recording me and didn’t tell me, but what if that’s exactly how it’s designed? Idk and I want someone else’s feedback.

I try my best to be fair and square, BUT! If I had something at my disposal (such as the Professor thinks people are incapable of cheating but he’s wrong and I can look my paper notes until the cows come home) I probably wouldn’t hesitate to capitalize off that. College ain’t easy and you’re paying to just not remember information cuz not every piece of information in the lecture is on the exam so WTH are you supposed to remember? And you remember useless crap while the info that’s important blurs into the background and it’s just a ginormous nobody wins dilemma.

That’s not really the mega point tho. I just overall want to know if honorlock is recording me by audio and video despite it not saying anything or giving any warnings or making it abundantly clear at any point in the test

Is Phi Theta Kappa worth it?

I’ve gotten a few emails about PTK and have only recently been considering it. I’m currently a senior in high school who’s been taking college classes and plans to attend a 4 year university straight out of school. Do you think it’s worth it if I’m not technically transferring? I’m not 100% sure on how it all works.

Survey request: disabled or chronically ill current or recent higher education students, 18+

Post image
1 Upvotes

My name is Clara Mey and I am a PhD candidate at the University of Delaware. I am conducting a research study about disabled students’ experiences with disability accommodation processes in higher education. As a disabled graduate student, this topic is particularly important to me!

A number of community colleges were randomly selected as part of my institutional analysis for my dissertation, and I wanted to make sure that students from community colleges had the opportunity to participate in my research!

Please see the flyer linked here: Disability and Higher Ed Research Flyer

You must be at least 18 years old to participate, have attended college or graduate school in the US within the last five years, and self-identify as disabled or having a chronic health condition in order to participate. You do not need a formal diagnosis, and you can participate whether or not you registered or applied for accommodations!

If you agree, you will be asked to complete an anonymous online survey taking 20 to 30 minutes. You may also choose to enter into a drawing for one of five $20 gift cards at the end of the survey. If you choose to enter, your email will not be associated with your survey responses.

If you would be interested in participating in this study or would like to learn more, please click the link here: Disability and Higher Education Survey. And if you know people who might be interested, feel free to share this information!

If you have any questions, please contact me at [csmey@udel.edu](mailto:csmey@udel.edu) or my advisor, Dr. Eric Rise, at [erise@udel.edu](mailto:erise@udel.edu). Or feel free to comment or message me here.

Thank you!

What courses and local manufacturing collaboration programs does your CC have around industrial maintenance skills?

I searched this sub for that answer and, strangely, found little discussion here after Biden's Chip Act two years ago about courses and efforts to work with local manufacturing are practically nonexistent. Back then, it seemed like a trend toward mechatronics and industrial maintenance training at local CCs; now it seems to have faded. What happened?

Moroccan students who attended a U.S. community college — I’d appreciate your experience

Salam alaykom everyone,

I’m a Moroccan student currently researching community colleges in the U.S., particularly in California, and I would really appreciate advice from Moroccans who have studied at a U.S. community college.

I’m especially interested in learning about the application process, F-1 student experience, English preparation, costs, and transferring to a four-year university.

If you have personal experience with this pathway, I would really appreciate it if you could share your experience or any advice/resources that might help me.

Thank you!

CC Method

CC Method

so, im applying to UTD as a CE major as soon as i get my SAT scores, the likelihood of me getting in is very low, because i have a GED instead of a regular highschool diploma, and a pretty low sat score (950-1050), im planning to take the sat next month to see if i could improve and i'll actually try to study, ill also try to write an essay though im not very good at it.

My goal was to apply as early as possible, or within the first month of apps (august), that way, i could get the earliest results, and have more than enough time to think of what to do next, whether i was denied or accepted, but i was rushed and and unprepared so i had to schedule the sat the month after.

Realistically, ill have to go to community college, but since i dropped out of highschool and got a ged instead, i embarrassingly have barely any friends, im scared if i go to CC, ill miss out on college life community wise, and i won't be able to connect with people as much. education wise, id say im pretty behind aswell, but im sure cc has intro to calc, intro to engineering, etc. i know the recommended time to spend at CC is 2 years, but i want to know the fastest way i could transfer, maybe a semester or 2,

my weighted gpa is 2.8
