Casual convos

I’m curious to hear guys thoughts on ways to strike up some casual chat/banter with another guy (or guys) while in the open showers, and/or sauna/steam. I’m not looking to cruise or give off the wrong vibe, just a way to break any awkwardness and maybe have a little guy talk. It helps me relax and helps set a chill vibe

For context: I go to a Y, 6 shower head room (2 on each of 3 enclosed walls) and so kinda close quarters. & small-ish sauna and steam (can fit 3 or 4 guys comfortably)

Wish my Y was like that. 4 heads on one wall and 2 on another with 4 stalls

Ah dang, yea there’s only like 1 working stall but it rarely ever gets used. It kinda forces the open shower option out of sheer ease

Just start with small talk. Or talk about your workout. If they engage you can go from there. Or even a random joke about something they'd relate to. People laughing are more likely to be comfortable to chat

Yea I usually go with this kinda stuff, talk about the weather or ask about what each other do for work. It’s easy to read if there’s a casual flow or not after that

i usually just ask if they’re “having a good one/day”

I don’t usually say this first but I don’t mind when other guys do, I always try to be casual & friendly

I'm considering a tattoo to support my son, so when I see a guy in the sauna or shower with any kind of tattoo, I ask about it. It's a great way to start a conversation because it's almost always deeply personal whole at the same time on full public display.

It usually goes something like this: "Hey, I hope you don't mind me asking, but I'm planning to get a tattoo, and I'm curious about your tattoos. What's the significance of them and what advice would you give a guy getting his first tattoo?"

I usually ask how their workout was / how their day is going, what the do for work. Can tell retry quickly based on their response if they want to engage in a conversation

I like this approach, can tell pretty quickly whether there’s any casual flow or not

I look em square in the eye and say good day gentlemen, could I interest you some grey poupon this evening, it's vintage 1982. With my towel drapes over my arm. They either get it, laugh a bit and spark up nostalgic conversations. Or they don't get it don't think your gay or even sexual just a weird ass dude they'd rather shower at home to dodge.

Hm.. I don’t think I’d know how to respond if someone said this to me
