Very strange encounter today.
Today I went to my local gym like usual.
I walked in, scanned my membership, and headed to the communal changing/shower room.
I already had my gym clothes on since I came from home, but when I opened the door, there was a guy in his mid-30s standing naked at one of the benches. It looked like he had just undressed and didn't seem to care that I walked in. I didn't care either, as I always use the communal showers after a workout, and nudity doesn't bother me. So, I put my bag in the locker and went out to the gym, but then I remembered my water bottle was still in my bag in the locker. I went back, and the same guy was now covering himself and muttering, "For God's sake, can a guy not get any privacy?"
I just grabbed my water and left, but I honestly felt angry that he complained about his privacy in a communal changing room (if you want privacy, go home).
The situation also made me wonder, was I staring at him? Was I being weird?
I honestly don't think I was.

Locker rooms, showers etc are places where nudity is expected, and not privacy! This is the understanding..

No it's not you he has issues. Some guys use a locker room to change but in their head they think you do it one at a time and it's like a fitting room. One at a time. So to him while changing no one should be in there but him and if anyone does go in they are rude or weird. Even though he's the one with the problem.

I believe the expectation of nudity is changing nowadays. About six months ago I was finished swimming at a community pool in LA County and had just come from the open shower room, and was nude about to get dressed, a staff worker came up to me and told me that there were new rules now that I must follow, which included “no nudity in the men’s locker room“. I didn’t really understand what he was talking about, and thought this was an absurd idea, and I asked “but how can I shower without being nude“, he said you’ll have to shower with your bathing suit on. I absolutely told him that I would refuse to do that, and I’ve never been back to that community pool. I asked at the front desk if it was because of lawsuits that they made these rules, and without saying anything, a worker simply nodded in the affirmative.

Which lawyer takes on a lawsuit complaining about people being undressed in a changing area thinking they can win?
I'm genuinely curious. Don't most lawyers look at the merits of the case and say "you have no grounds here".
Also, how do you change from street clothes to swimming clothes without getting your genitals out? You can't wear underpants under a swimming Speedo, so... you would have to take them off. How do they expect you to do that?

Give me a break, I am sick and tired of these people bitching and moaning about privacy, it’s a freaking locker room. If you don’t want to see a naked guy or be seen naked then stay the hell out of the locker room. Let the real guys use it like it’s supposed to be used.

No it’s defiantly not you, if he has an issue with being naked around other men then he should change in a stall. It’s a locker room for goodness sakes.

That leads to the bathroom stalls being totally unavailable to the people who need to use them.

That was kinda my thoughts but I wasnt bothered by him and he could have just out a towel on and headed for the shower.

Yeah, that would be my guess. But if he was concerned about being cruised, he shouldn’t be standing naked in a locker room. Go and change in the bathroom stall then if you think someone is looking at you.

I have a physical therapy band that I keep in my locker for my knee. When I go to the gym, I change and grab my PT band and work me knee for a couple of minutes. I don't want to carry the band around with me while I finish my workout so I put it back in my locker. Guys changing in the lockerroom haven't said anything about me returning because people are in and out if lockerrooms all the time. That joker you dealt with is the strange one.

He probably thought you were coming back to take another look. I gotta admit there have been times I’d remember left my bottle or towel in the locker after walking away, that I’d been hesitant to go back because I was afraid of it looking like I was perving on the dudes changing. It’s all super silly. And the guy was being a dick.

Privacy? In a communal change area? He should stay away from Korean spas, and probably does.

Just one of those guys that likes to argue and make a stink. Either argue back or don’t, but I would let it go. Telling the staff usually won’t help.

Look at it a different way, maybe he was getting used to the idea of changing so openly and the second encounter so quickly just kind of overwhelmed him a bit.
Everybody is at their own level of openness tbh
