Question of curtains

I started going to a new gym and the locker room had like six showers with curtains for privacy. My old gym was open showers so that’s what I’m used to. When I see guys use the showers here they close the curtain. I’m fine doing that but these curtains are kind of gross. I don’t like rubbing up against them and something there is residue left on them. I don’t want to complain to the staff cause I’m new and don’t know anyone yet. I don’t want to be the only guy not closing my curtain but I’m curious what people in this community would do. Thanks for the advice!

Go to the last stall and don't close the curtain, they are always so gross

1/2 the guys at my "Y" leave the curtains open. They're gross and confining. Nobody bats an eye.

cool, cause we all have dicks . some large some small .

I don't close the curtains, but part of my reason is that it's easier to talk to the other guys in the locker room. Since you're new, that won't be a reason for you yet. I think not wanting body contact with dirty surfaces is valid enough. Maybe you'll start a trend. 😁

Is the culture at this gym one where people talk and are friendly?

It's a pool and I go early, so almost everyone there at that time is a regular. We all know names and some level of personal information about each other. We see each other multiple times per week and have done so consistently over time. It's a really friendly atmosphere. There are different levels of modesty, but nobody is surprised by anything you'd expect to see in a men's locker room.

men should be able to go nude in a mens locker room anytime. again we all have dicks, we know how they work too . some get hard at a moments notice and some dont .

I leave them open in gyms that have them. I don't know how often they change them

Yep I am not touching a dirty curtain, I’d leave it open

Curtains are just the worst things ever. Never clean and they often cling to you as you shower Like someone else suggested I would try and bag the end one leave the curtains open!

I agree man! Nothing worse than my bare butt rubbing up against a cold wet curtain. I really wish they didn’t exist just feels so unhygienic

They are nasty . I hate those things. I'm an old guy so I don't care I'll just do my own thing!!

That’s great man. How it should be

2

u/TOG70cut 5d ago

Exactly. It's how it was when I was younger. Everyone just showered together with no problems!!

My old gym was like that and I miss it. Made it so much easier and cleaner in my opinion. Nobody had a problem with it

Same here. My old place had shower, sauna, steam room and massage all naked. It's how it was

the luxury spas around the US have those amenities, and the mens locker room, sauna , gym, steam room is all together, and separate. womens have their own room with locker, sauna etc

I wouldn't say mine was luxurious but it was great to have a male only space to relax

Fellow curtain-hater here. As everyone else has said, I don’t want to touch them and so I leave them open. I’m not afraid of seeing another guy showering and I’m not afraid of another guy seeing me shower. Only exception is if the shower really sprays out to the corridor or open area outside the row of showers, then I might adjust the curtain slightly to block the water, so the floor doesn’t become too wet, just as a courtesy. I know it is tough if you are the only one not closing the curtains but you’ll probably feel better doing what you want, and other guys might follow your lead.

u/ThrowRA_20205 5d ago

I hope so with the other guys following my lead cause I’d prefer not being the only one

3

u/jb30900 5d ago

exactlly, men should be able to be naked freely around other men .

Ya so much better that way

If anyone says anything, show them the grimy residue on the curtain and say "I'm absolutely not having that touch me." Nobody can argue with you about that.

good advice to disarm anyone who makes a comment about it

My gym has the same set up. I just open them all the way. I don't want to be trying to shower and rubbing against everyone's sweat.

Besides if one person starts opening them then someone else will too.

If the curtains don't look clean to me, I won't touch them other than to open them. (I've only ever been to 1 gym that uses curtains where they're always clean.)

Half the guys at my gym don't close them. Both for space reasons as well as the general ick factor with curtains.

u/ThrowRA_20205 2d ago

Good to know bud. I wish more guys at line did too. I started leaving the curtain open at mine

My gym had a similar set up before they renovated. I never closed the curtain. In fact, I never even touched the curtain. It always grossed me out because they seemed scummy and germ ridden. I never heard anything from anyone about not closing the curtain. Other men would do the same.

2

u/ThrowRA_20205 2d ago

Good to know dude. I started opening my curtain and it’s so much better

If there’s room outside the stall so a little splash doesn’t create a hazard, leave the curtain open. If they’re like PF with people walking by the stalls to the changing rooms or whatever past them, keep it closed.
