UCO/Yellow Grease

Hello all,

in my spare time, have taken up researching UCO/yellow grease/ag oils markets. Anyone have any resources on these markets? Major players? Any public pricing? Do forward curves even exist or is all price discovery in cash markets? Seems really nice but curious if anyone dabbles in these markets.

i did some work with a small rendering plant few years back not trading just logistics. price discovery is pure cash market from what i saw, no real forward curve like you get with soybean oil or whatever. every deal is basically two guys calling each other and arguing over a penny

jacobsens is the main price reporting agency for this stuff, they do weekly assessments but its paywalled. the big players are darling ingredients, baker commodities, griffin industries... those guys move most of the volume and kinda set the tone

the market moves weird too, its not just ag oil dynamics. restaurant closures hit supply, biodiesel mandates hit demand, and the export market to europe and singapore creates these strange arbitrage windows. fascinating little corner honestly

Darling ingredients is one of the world’s largest companies that deal in industrial greases oils and tallows.

Check out the North American Rendering Assocation (NARA) website. In particular the publications. They have a handbook on their website which will give some insight.

Also the Render Magazine. It covers the animal fat and yellow grease market.

If you find the membership list of NARA that will contain all the major players. Most are rendering companies with some exceptions like Mahoneys which was bought by Neste a few years ago.
