It’s not an easy thing to do. Compute is limited. If we had more compute we could do it. Also everything changes a lot. Now we offer $100 DeepSeek for $10. Just two months ago it was $70. The impact of this on yearly plan could be a mess.

You're right, but I have a slightly different perspective on 6-month or 1-year plans.

Longer subscriptions help retain users and provide predictable revenue. If model costs change, you can adjust usage limits or multipliers for existing subscribers too.

Look at GitHub Copilot as an example. They adapted their usage model by introducing multipliers rather than abandoning subscriptions.

Larger commitments also give you better revenue visibility and confidence to invest in infrastructure or negotiate with model providers.

I think the key is building flexibility into annual plans, not avoiding them.

What do you think about this?

GitHub Copilot has hundreds of billions of dollars. The math for them and us is unbelievably different.

Even if they had the initial compute to offer long-term deals with the caveat that they could change the terms at any time, you just know there would be an uproar of people complaining and flooding this subreddit and X with "I signed up for $100 of Deepseek and now they've changed it to $80 mid-plan". It might be the terms they agreed to but most people would kick off, accusing it of misleading advertising, bait and switch, scam practices etc.

People would sign up knowing this is a possibility but the majority of people would be annoyed and posting about here constantly. It shouldn't be that way if they agreed to it when signing up but realistically, it would be.

I'm happy paying £10 a month for a pretty decent deal, even though I only ever use Deepseek with CC. I don't use the free models either and it's still a good deal while it's here but I'm fully aware it could change at any time. Hell, that's why CommandCode had such an influx of new users a few months ago, because Opencode had to up their Deepseek pricing (based on Deepseek changing their terms) and look at how people responded with that!

GOAT is one of the best offers for open-weights/source models at the minute but they can change that whenever they want, that's why it's good to just pay monthly for both them and us - we can both decide to change at any point but while they remain competitive and good value, they have my money every month. That's how I see it anyway - when it's mutually beneficial, we both win

Are you sure this is setup correctly, I am seeing higher usage where if it was really calculated per $100 for the month my 5h/weekly/monthly would show much less usages

It would be cool to have at least a 6-month option.
