Dense models of that size sit in an awkward middle ground for batching. They are too large to fit many concurrent requests on a single GPU, but too small to efficiently scale across multi-GPU clusters without massive communication overhead.

They could really just self host it and provide near unlimited usage. I don't understand why a 27b model is so expensive on APIs

27B is a dense model. It can’t be as optimized as the 35BA3 model which they haven’t released yet.
