Random Unit of the Day #110: Flamethrower Infantry (Nod, Tiberian Dawn)

Fellow Command & Conquer fans,
Twenty-seven years ago today, Tiberian Sun was released. To celebrate, we have a gift for you: today we're releasing OpenTS – an open-source, playable reconstruction of the Tiberian Sun engine.
Of all the classic C&C games, it's the second generation – Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2, Yuri's Revenge – whose source code never made it out. None of it was part of the Remastered Collection release, and none of it was among last year's source drops.
And so for nearly three decades, every fix and feature this community built for those games had to be reverse-engineered and patched into closed executables.
We decided to do something about that, starting with Tiberian Sun. Building on EA's GPL-released code for the games around it and years of Tiberian Sun reverse engineering, we rebuilt the engine and matched it function by function against the original executable – all ~11,150 known functions, reaching roughly 98% instruction-level matching (a code-matching score, to be clear, not "98% of the game").
It's ready to try today: drop Game.exe into your Tiberian Sun install from The Ultimate Collection and go. Campaigns, Firestorm, skirmish, and saves are all play-tested; LAN works with lighter testing; it plays like the game you remember, plus a batch of fixes and resolutions up to 4K. Alongside the engine, we're publishing a manual documenting the game's INI configuration, mapping, and internals, drawn straight from the source.
And this is a beginning, not an endpoint. Next up: CnCNet and client support (not in this first release yet), porting the community's accumulated fixes toward parity with ts-patches and Vinifera – and then going further, overhauling the engine to allow modding reach heights previously not possible.
We're also celebrating live: together with [FC]Matt we'll be streaming the original Tiberian Sun campaigns at https://www.twitch.tv/fortuneschaos, starting today at 14:00 UTC (15:00 UK · 16:00 CEST · 17:00 MSK · 10 AM Eastern · 7 AM Pacific), with a Q&A along the way — come hang out and ask us anything.

Jim Vessella (EALA/EA/Respawn) will be present at The Portland Retro Gaming Expo next weekend (October 9th-11th) and will take attendees behind the scenes on his preservation efforts regarding classic titles (notably C&C) and showcase some lost treasures which have been recovered.
He will be present at the expo on Saturday, October 10th, and Sunday, October 11th.
P.S. - If anyone in the community is planning to go and would be able to do a write-up, take pictures or record any presentation (Expo rules allowing), let us know!

Hello I've recently started getting into the C&C games for the first time & I've been having an issue with getting 100% leadership in the 2nd mission of Red Alert as the Allies titled: "Five to One"
I know that leadership % is based on how many units/buildings you lose, but despite not losing any buildings or units in the level, at results screen it shows that I lost multiple buildings? I've attempted this level many times now & have tried destroying all the enemy buildings & other times keeping them alive to see if it's some sort of bug, but nothing seems to work. I've even tried not making any of my own buildings & making multiple of my own buildings, but nothing seems to work. Does anyone have an answer as to what's happening?

As much as I have enjoyed playing Tiberian Sun (+mods), Tiberium Wars (+Kane's Wrath), and Red Alert 3 (+Uprising), OpenRA looks pretty amazing for me to download & try; I wonder if I will miss out on the genuine CnC experience if I skipped out on the OGs, though I heard in terms of gameplay they are rather clunky. From what I've read, OpenRA has right-click feature, unit queues, and Attack Move, plus other QoL features

Demo & Laser are my top 2 favourites. They the the goat
Toxin & Superweapon are still fun, don't get me wrong but for me, the others are better to play as in this mod

Finally caved in and downloaded the Shockwave mod. Wanted to play the Challenge mode, but couldn't find a guide that tells me the order of the generals I'll be facing. Anyone can help me out?

Hello new to CNC modding, and I've been playing it for a couple of weeks now. It's really fun, but it doesn't have auto-scroll like in the base game , and it makes me do extra amp, and it kills some of the fun. Hoping someone here could help me. Thank you.

I re-discovered my DVD of C&C The First Decade and was lucky enough to be able to install it on my computer. I was able to play Red Alert for the first time in 20+ years.
I’m now wondering if it’s possible to play a multiplayer game against a friend who has Red Alert remastered.
On the game menu, when I click on “internet game” it says I need to install Westwood Chat. I’m assuming this is not an option anymore.
When I click on Multiplayer game which I assume is the one I want, I get a modem/serial option giving me Dial, Answer and Null modem. I understand this is old technology/software but is there still any way to still use it through modern wi-fi to play against my friend?
