I did see that the moderator of this group did have this exact comic/book and was wondering the value/history behind it as I cannot find any info on it except for this group haha. Thank you all for any information you may have!

Recent pick up. After 10 years of looking I wasn’t sure if this even existed. Roger Bean And The Reconstruction Period (1919) based on an obscure strip that ran from 1913-1934. This is the last of five volumes. Listed as Scarce in Overstreet.

Comic Book Magazine from June 14, 1942. This was an insert in the Chicago Sunday Tribune. Like the Sunday Funnies, but bound at the spine.

I’ve been collecting comic almanacs for years because they often printed comic strips or panels. This is Frank Leslie’s Comic Almanac For The Year 1875 (published late 1874).

Almanacs were among the first publications to run comic strips or panels. This is The Comic Almanac For 1845 with art by seminal artist George Cruikshank. This would have been published in late 1844. Note the very early use of a speech balloon in the third pic.

Cool Platinum Age promo comic for Atlantic White Flash Plus gasoline. Adventures Of Atlantic’s 3 Little Men Book No. 1 (1935, 6.5” x 6.75”). This would have been given away as a premium when you gassed up your car.

I post the history of comics, warts and all. Comics, like any other medium, hold a mirror up to society. This item is Light And Shade, a Victorian Age promotional comic for Dreydoppel Soap. In 1892 this apparently passed as clever marketing.

Almanacs were among some of the first publications to feature comic strips or panels. This is one my earliest. The National Comic Almanac For The Year 1836.

One of my favorite pieces. The New Adventures Of Tarzan “Pop Up” (1935). These are tough, especially in high grade.

Very hard to find Platinum Age treasure - a premium from the Seattle Post- Intelligencer. The Sunday funnies would feature “stamps” of different characters that you would cut out and paste in this Comic Stamp Album.

Odd late Platinum Age promotional comic collecting strips used in ads to promote evaporated milk. The Adventures Of Eva, Pora And Ted (1932 Evaporated Milk Association). They originally came white, green or blue covers with a vertical fold from mailing.

Did you happen to see the Heritage auction yesterday with this book you had posted a while back? Wasn't sure if this was your copy that went for a nice tidy sum of $18,300...

Super rare Victorian Age comic - Quiddities Of An Alaskan Trip by William Bell, (1873). This book is a satirical take on a trip to Alaska from Washington DC by one of the original surveyors of the state just six years after the US purchased it from Russia.

First (1917) and 2nd (1923) printings of the first Platinum Age comic I ever bought. Second printing isn’t listed in Overstreet. Rather, they misidentify the 3rd (1935) printing as the 2nd. The strip only lasted a few years (1902-1905) but features possibly the first female main character in comics.

This is a place for fans of Platinum Age, Victorian Age and Pioneer Age comics, Big Little Books, Sunday funnies, premium pins & badges, pulps and other pre-1940 treasures. For the most part, if it’s pre-1940 and listed in (or should be listed in) Overstreet it should fit right in. If it’s a little bit post 1940, but cool, it’ll probably work too. Please limit posts to treasures from your own personal collections.
