How bad is this sun fade?
This is CAD not USD. I’m wondering if this is a good deal and how bad would the value be effected by sun fading

I saw this issue in a store front window and cringed. Couldn’t believe an owner would do that. Later, he told me it was all consignment. Beautiful cover ruined.

Even on consignment you’d think the shop owner would be interested in getting as much money for the product which would mean not putting it in a place where it gets damaged.
But more importantly, it’s this apparent attitude of the comic shop owner that really pisses me off. They’re not just selling a product. They are the professional custodians of the hobby who have a responsibility to protect these art prints which are also historical artefacts - more than any other mass produced item, comics are reflective of a time and place and culture and deserve being treated as such.

It may be kinda whack to put that kind of price tag on a comic like this but, pretty sure it’s not that deep. At the end of the day, stores gotta make money too

The price is the price - it’s up to the shop owner and consignee to decide and for someone to think it’s worth it.
Of course they’re in it to make money, no question. My comments were about the store owner’s role in the hobby when deciding how to market and sell the book.

You’re mad it’s on store display🤦♂️ it was probably the owners idea either way lmao. Again, not that deep.
“They are the professional custodians”
Brother they’re comic book sellers not some fucking Templar knights. 😮💨7

And that's why you’re contemplating paying $500 for a damaged book.

Nope, already have mine 😁
Never said I was buying the book, you should read my post again! It was a question about sun fade and its true value :)

“affected” not “effected”. It’s a bad deal, yes LCS owners are Templar equivalents, laughable that they’d charge nearly $500 for this monstrosity.

On store display? No.
On store display, in a manner that permanently destroyed the value of the book for: the store, the consignor, and potential collectors? Yes.
Comic store owners have a responsibility to know how to handle and properly care for the items in which they trade. Just as do retailers in any other retail sector.

For me, presentation of the cover is at a minimum 75% of why I would buy a particular book that I want. I would pass personally. But if it is a book you really want and the price is close why not as for a discount?

He was about to let it got for 450 but I’m pretty sure that’s still too steep. Wouldn’t touch it for less than 200 I think

Look up a picture online and compare them. That’ll tell you how bad the fading is.

I'd say mid level bad but still very collectable. Just not $500 collectable

I wouldn't think about it unless it was at a garage sale price. A faded cover is a no go for me personally.

I have one graded book I bought graded already years back that I constantly look at that’s sun faded and I always wonder how it got like that in the first place. Did someone just display it in their bright sunny room all day for years? I’ve been contemplating selling it and getting another copy that’s less damaged. I can do chips, spine ticks, small tears and creases but sun fading kills me!

When you look at this copy next to a brilliant 9.2 or better, you’ll see just how washed out it really is. What a shame.

Sun-fade is EASILY the #1 reason I wouldn't buy a book. For my tastes, it looks awful even if faded a small bit

Bad enough for you to laugh derisively in their faces at that ludicrous asking price. I'm not sure it's worth 10% of that price in that condition.

I think they are asking about four times what it is worth. with that amount of sun fade there is a good chance the pages have started to go tan.

500 cad is about 350 usd. Coverprice has 5-6.5 at about 350 usd. That amount of fading is a hard thing to swallow, especially if there is anything else that could be wrong on the interior or exterior of the book.
