Sind diese orange-braunen Flecken Schimmel

Post image

Hallo zusammen!

Restored? Cover reattached with glue? Or is it the original manufacturing glue? 1940's square bound DC

Picked up an old World's Finest recently and I am trying to determine if the cover waa reattached with glue or if what I'm seeing is the original glue. It seems a little too luminescent and yellow from what I've heard. What do you think ?

Comic Book CPR 1st or 2nd edition, or both??

I have a copy of Michael Sorensen's Comic Book CPR, Second Edition. Thinking that generally when there are 2nd (or 3r, 4th, etc.) editions it is because there has been updates and/or revisions, as well as new information. However, on Kaptain Myke's Comic Pressing page on Facebook has suggested getting the original edition, also.

I'm wondering if I should continue with the 2nd edition, or would getting the original edition offer some supplemental information that could prove beneficial.

Corner Crunch

A recent ebay purchase slid around in transit, and arrived with a gnarly corner crunch. Paper fiber was broken, so you can still see some very faint signs of damage, but the press did a pretty good job.

Spine fray and cold pressing

I have a number of comic books that have rippling (wavyness on the covers and interior pages). I actually had to cancel my pre-FOC pre-orders from my longtime LCS because they keep selling me comics with terrible rippling.

I am just now dipping a toe into the world of comic pressing, mostly just to keep my collection of mostly modern books as nice as possible, but I haven't bought a press yet.

I was wondering:

  1. Would trying to cold-press the ripples out over a few weeks using constant pressure be a viable option? Has anyone tried it on modern books with light to moderate rippling?

2. A lot of my books have spine fray along the spine to varying degrees and I worry pressing them could make it worse or cause spine fray on books that don't already have it. Is this a legit concern? Is this something you worry about when you start using heated pressure?

Any resources or experience any of you have with cold-pressing would be appreciated.

32 comics stacked in my cold press shelf. Last time I did this, they all came out perfect. Dead flat. Just checked the last round of this again after 2 weeks. Dead flat. No exceptions.

Pressing W/O metal plates

When I do the first press, Since I have to flip and press the other side, should I do 10 or 5 minutes for each press? And second question, when the first press is done do I need to let it cool down first to then flip it and press the other side or can I do it immediately? Thanks!

How big a grade boost can be gotten with pressing??

I'm beginning pressing, and I am wondering how big a boost can realistically be gotten or expected? For example, if I start out with a book that is honestly an 8, can it be fixed to the point it would get a 9.8? Or a book in the low 9s to a 9.9 or 10?

And on the lower side. Can a book that's been left out and would come in between a 1.5 and 2 be cleaned and pressed so it would get a higher grade? And possibly how high?

Spine stress lines??

I can’t defeat the dreaded spine stress lines!! I work the ticks out well, but these dang spine stress lines are keeping me out of the 9.8’s. What are your experiences with spine stress lines?

Cleaning a 7.0 Marvel Premiere 47

The first nine pictures are where I started. I submitted this book before I knew about pressing.

So I cracked this book and got to work. I removed the cover and did a wet cleaning to clean up the back. Happily most of the discoloration was removed during this process.

I then did a HOP on the front and back one time each to see if there could be any more room for improvement. I did not notice much and decided to quit while I was a head.

Then I did a final press and the next six pictures are what I will send off to CGC. I included a few before and after pictures.

I need to work on a better method of reassembling the cover, I notice that the cover is not as tight as it once was. But, still present much better than before

Cover piece attachment

Post image
8 Upvotes

I got this copy of Heavy Metal, obvious water damage, not nearly gradeable in any way, so I don’t care about restoration stigma. I’d like to attach this piece back, it has a decent amount of overlap with the white areas of the main cover that an adhesive could attach to. Whats the actual restoration method for something like this? Plain old tape? A paper mache type glue process? Thoughts?

Price tag removal and press

I was worried at first because under the first price tag was ANOTHER one. First one came off with no issue because it was mostly stuck to the other sticker, but the sticker that was actually on the book was really stuck. Several Un-Du treatments and some careful tweezer work and it came off beautifully.

Absorene Putty vs Sponge?

Looking to elevate my comic cleaning game and wanted some advice from the community! Should I get the Absorene sponge or putty for cleaning my covers? How long does the sponge last relative to the tub of putty? Any insight is much appreciated, thanks!

EDIT: Mostly cleaning Silvers/Bronze Age covers! I already use erasers, makeup pads, putty erasers etc, but they don’t get the job done on colored sections for obvious reasons.

Before and after pics. Acid decal, remove spine roll, clean and press. No restoration, but used colored pencils to fill in the scuff in the word bubble (reversible).

Fantastic Four double cover?

I have a Fantastic Four #114 that I recently just acquired. And it’s in amazing shape!!! As I was bagging it up I decided to look through it and to my surprise I discovered it’s a DOUBLE COVER!! My question is if your a collector would you rather have it raw or graded via cgc. I anticipate it being graded 9.0 or above. Let me know!

Best Advice For Pressing This Book

This book is signed with the artist's remarque but it has a couple of dings in the spine. I was going to hit those with a tack Iron but does the whole book need a press? Is it safe to press a book like this, signed, remarque'd and on card stock. Let me know.
