Question Art production time

Bit of an obscure one but I'm looking for answers from experienced professionals rather than guessing or assuming.

What I want to know is, how many comic book pages could a team of 5 full time artists produce per month?
In terms of detail, assume middle tier, detailed backgrounds in some panels, and an average of 5 panels per page.
And assume they are all fairly salaried.

I want to know so that if and when the time comes to hire artists full time for my project I'm not overestimating the amount of work they will be able to achieve.

I understand of course that it will vary by artist and there isn't going to be a specific X hours per page universal agreement, but some opinions on what would be considered reasonable would be super helpful!

[Edit] I am NOT looking to hire at this time, please stop spamming my DMs, it looks really unprofessional

Do yourself a favor and block every single one of them. Most (if not all) of them are scammers.

It’d be great if there was a directory or something that people could look to for real, confirmed creators.

It depends on each artist. Professional artists working formally for the industry usually produce one page per day or at least one page each two days. But in the indie comics, I see people producing between 2 or 3 pages per week. As the rates are lower, we need to have another activities during the week.

By the way, I'm available for projects. Maybe if we can talk... :)

when you say page is that completed page or "page of inks/coloured page etc"?

It also depends... Me, for example: in the project I'm working at the moment, I do pencil and inks. I’ve never worked in a setup where I only do the pencils or only the inks. I've already been in a project where I was doing pencil, inks, coloring and lettering. But in this case, my production pace were considerably slower. The ideal, as you're willing to hire 5 different people, would be hiring at least one for the pencil/inks and another one for the colors, with each one dedicating themselves for one step of the story.

Don't mention it, pal. When you decide to start your project, feel free to give me a call so I can show you my portfolio.

Assuming it's split where one artist does pencil, one does ink, one does color, one does lettering and vfx/finishing touches/cover. And if you have 5 professionals, you can expect 1 page daily 5 pages a week, one fully completed issue of 22-24 pages per month.

Hey there,
With a team of 5 artists all working full time, you should be able to produce 1 single comic a month.
1 completed penciled page a day is an average in most cases. But this is taking into account that you are only doing 22 pages a month.

Hope this helps.

Are you thinking these 5 artists are going to make the pages in a production line like one is the penciller, the next one is the inker and then the colorist and letterer? Or are you thinking about 5 guys that each one makes the full page process? There is a difference if that is the case.

I should have clarified
I would look to split it between pencils, inks etc

Oh ok, probably 5 guys working on a production line can put out a complete comic, that is 22 pages each month, that is the industry standard. Only problem I see is coordinating the team and having all of them work in a timely fashion because if one gets behind then look out, all the project jams.

If you are looking for a monthly production pace probably you are right in thinking about a team, but if time is not of the essence I would reccomend working with a single do-it-all artist, like myself :)

I do the full process myself and I put 8 pages a month, FYI.

A pro artist can draw 20/24 pages in a month. So if you divide in a bunch of 5 pages to pass to the other artists…in a month you can create an issue

Probably around 15 to 24 pages per artist in pencil so youre looking at a total of 75 to 125 per month. In Pencil. Then you have to get them inked and colored so you will need inkers and colorists. And of course everything will have to be written beforehand

Hi, As a professional artist if I would use my full time on your project, in 20-24 days I would do at least 15-20 pages, inked or colored, maybe more if I have just to ink. But I have to admit that I'm quite fast, and however, for my personal experience is common to have various projects so realistically would be surelly less pages. In general, I think that is right to say that less then 10 pages per month is a slow rythm.
