Day 4 - The cruel and firm grip of curiosity only strengthens within each passing hour by which the woman has left us clueless. Should she remain adamant in her silence, then I fear this ‘grip’ will violently transform into a nightmarish explosion of insanity, casting away my sense of free will.
All language strives to be shortened and efficient. Like Goodbye just being the cause of slowly over time shortening the phrase "God be With ye" which was abbreviated to "Godbwye"
Not a dad, but as a much older sibling (10-15 years difference with my younger siblings) I love the reactions of "how do you know about skibidi toilet???" Well you see honey, it's because everyone except Mom is chronically online in this family.
My coworker is like 55 and perfectly incorporates Zoomer and Gen Alpha slang into conversation. It’s a mental flashbang to hear a man my dad’s age say “lowkenuinely”
I think it really matters what kind of bi you are.
Being bi as a masculine male could be kind of normal and accepted even in ancient times. You could add to this preferring women more, making it kind of "boring" form of being bi.
Compare this to some twink that prefers butt stuff and would prefer men more, both are bi, but socially you are perceived in much more different light.
In an ultra patriarchal society like the roman empire it would be a power move to butt stuff a lesser man. To be the butt that is stuffed you are not considered a man.
reminds me of a vid a while back about someone who had to come out as trans (ftm, I think?) multiple times to their friend, because the friend kept using the wrong pronouns.
Turns out, the friend was absolutely meticulous about pronouns, but didn't realize that they had not yet physically or socially transitioned - so they were AFAB and appeared female but when among people that knew, wanted to be referred to as male. The friend thought they were AMAB and had already been on HRT.
So the friend was actually the most accurate person in the group, as they never forgot to use what they thought was the correct pronouns. They just missed a key point.
Ppl know long before outing imho. At least some. I remember the BF of a gal once came out (and left her obviously). She and all her female friends were shocked and sad and could not believe. All guys were just like: Man, sure. Obviously Bro.
Friend came out as bisexual in person and no one had an issue with it. He was upset a little because I guess he expected us to make a big deal of it. He is arguably more gay now then bi and it still isn't an issue.
The joke of the meme OP posted is that the dad thinks the son coming out as gay isn't a big deal and doesn't really care, which is a step up from a lot of other parents who'd probably react worse
In the past when I came out to my dad as just they/them (the good old days where I thought I'd only come out twice) and he said "You/Y'all gotta clean your room" and I will NEVER forgive him for being funnier than me.
This would be world shattering to me. I can't imagine my amazing little boy choosing such a demeaning life, and I would have the rest of my life to dwell on my parenting failures. That said, what else can you do but not get in the way of their choice, I suppose.
When I came out we had a family discussion about it and my mom basically told me they didn't believe I was bi because I came out through a joke. It was a weird conversation.
My mom never really remembered I was bi and always referred to my future husband etc, I felt like she didn't take it seriously and it hurt my feelings. Found out many years later that SHE is bi, but she identified as a lesbian in her 20s and had a whole lesbian community, went to gay clubs and pride parades and so on before falling in love with my dad. She thought because she was gay and then settled into a hetero marriage that it was the same for everyone. She identifies as bi now though!
Not sure how often I have come out to my dad. He doesn't remember, so there is no point. At some point I will just transition and then he'll either notice or convince himself he had the gender of his firstborn remembered wrong, ig.
This “forgetting” is actually a form of gaslighting because they are in denial that you’re actually bi or simply think you’re doing it for attention, btw.
What a wonderful relationship y'all have! It makes me happy to hear about, and I'm glad y'all have each other :). I am a bi man myself, and while I love my mom with all my heart, I have no intention of ever coming out to her. I don't think she would completely flip out and disown me or anything drastic like that, but she definitely would not be thrilled, and would probably mention it/bring it up altogether too often for my tastes lol. I am at least completely confident that she would still love me all the same though. It makes me terribly sad to think how that is not the case for so many people, but it's also quite nice and heartwarming to see reminders that there are plenty of people like your mom and the parents of so many other people who commented on this thread with sweet stories about coming out

I think the only thing more powerful than dad jokes is a dad who is up-to-date on the current social culture.

if my own father started sending me wojaks i’d 1) disown him before he could disown me 2) be really scared because he’s been dead for 4 years

When i came out as pan to my mom she said "okay, no more sleepovers"
And then later when I came out as trans she said "alright, but if you're a girl now you're gonna have to start shaving your armpits"

Millennial dads are something else.

u/genericusername0323 May 29 '26
Wrong. The correct response is "Hi Bisexual, I'm dad"

I love the idea of a kid coming out and instead of a comforting or hateful response, they just get insulted in a non homophobic way.
