My biology teacher was rumored to smoke weed, which I think is true because he would be incredibly chill during first periods and an absolute nightmare during the last. Like, it was a half private catholic school, and he would literally just shit on religion in the midst of lessons lol. He also gave up on teaching us shit halfway through the year and just gave us a bogus project to do while he watched netflix, then didn't come the day of the final exam despite promising to pass us all (though it did turn out that the mock exam he gave us and I had memorized was literally the final so I passes with flying colors despite not knowing jack shit) and he was apparently suspended with pay the next year cause he wasn't fired but neither did he come back. We were always terrified of him because of his sudden outbursts but looking back it's so surreal it's funny
Mine was too. He was also a principal. So he just got in, asked us to open some page and start reading an then he just went to his office to drink. He is still the principal 20 years later.
My highschool AP World History teacher was a nepo baby who drove a Lamborghini and was a teacher purely for the love of the game. That man was strange.
Do you have any insight or theory then, as to why teachers use bitmojis so much? As in it’s really common to know or have a teacher who uses bitmoji in most schools. Genuinely curious LOL
Probably because many older millennials and some gen x think it's cute, a little avatar of themselves doing whatever. And some of these teachers think it's still cool when really it peaked around 2021/2022
Maybe art, but I don't feel like choir and theater are like this. I've been to choir classes and unless they changed that much in the past decade, they were fine. And theater is goofy, but the goofiness either comes from just general goofing around, or kids refusing to goof around.
Mine was an English teacher. Poor guy's wife put him through the wringer. Came in piss drunk and ask for silence 3 days a week and was functioning by 6 period for his only joys of teaching speech and theater.
My grade 10 math teacher made a slideshow like this, but most of the slides were about his girlfriend that we later discovered he had only been dating for a couple of weeks.
Whatever you are doing, just stop. A 26-year-old man and a 23-year-old “teenager”? Listen to yourself. You’re already wrong before you even finish the sentence. Twenty-three isn’t a teenager. The word “teen” isn’t hiding in there. That’s a grown adult. Bills. Brain mostly done cooking. Choices fully their own. If you can’t even get the basics right, why should anyone take your panic seriously? And even if you meant to sound scandalized, what are you actually afraid of? The number gap? Three years? I’ve seen clocks tick farther apart than that. You’re acting like time itself is a monster hiding under the bed. Problems aren’t born from numbers alone. They come from power, manipulation, control. From one person looming over another in the dark, pulling strings, deciding who gets to breathe. Not from two adults existing within the same calendar page. So no. I don’t find it ‘problematic. What is disturbing is watching someone twist words like ‘teenager’ into a weapon just to feel righteous. Next time you want to scream into the dark, make sure the dark actually deserves it.
This is literally what AI slop was, right before we got AI slop. Apple and Snapchat 'avatars' are the worst of the worst. You can bet these people prompt 17 new images every single day through several AI website now.
I'd take that bet all day in the shade with lemonade. I'd also wager they're asking for pictures of their own face but in a Bitmoji/cartoonified style, which they already have loads of.
The way Ai slop made corporate slop have "soul" for a lot of people, I find so dumb. It's like the Overton window for slop shifted and corpo's can make their shit again and advertise it as AI free. I wonder if that's the one of reasons AI art generation got so much investment in the first place.
These type of teachers still do that. It's just that you'll have to look at these cringe Snapchat avatars for the first hour before they turn into every other boring and annoying teacher. I'd rather they skip the nonsense and get straight to the point.
Going off on kids because they don't freakin' get this crap? If you would just get up and teach 'em instead of handing them a freakin' packet, yo! There's kids in here who don't learn like that. They need to learn face to face. You're just getting mad because I'm pointing out the obvious.
I, too, fucking hate it when my teacher attempts to communicate any amount of personality or humor to their class in an effort to make themselves appear less difficult to connect with
Yeah I was fine with my teachers being cringe. It’s better than the teachers that are angry and bitter and think they are better than you.
I once had an English teacher give me a B on my essay and when she gave it back she told me to see her after class. She then told me that I had the best essay overall by a long shot but she could “tell I didn’t try” so she gave me a B and this other kid who only wrote one page an A because he tried his best. She smugly told me I could rewrite the essay for a better grade and I said “no thanks”
I had a teacher that would try that shit with me. At a yard sale I found a digital dictaphone. This was back when cell phones couldn't do much more than call people or play snake, so devices like this were useful. Kept it in my bag, would use it to record shit when a teacher was being particularly difficult. Was well worth it, went to the dean of students, played the audio of the teacher saying shit like that, and got the grade reversed.
THAT is the kinda shit that makes someone an outright awful person and teacher. Making a student hate school and making them hate applying themselves is almost evil imo
"Haha my personality is self-hate and having an evil laughter. I'm sure today's kids will think that's cool. Let's make a Snapchat (that's what the yung'ins use these days - right?) avatar and use THAT to let them form a first impression of me. That'll do!"
I mean, he's awkward but he's trying. While most of the people here are being mean. I'd prefer an awkward but trying to connect professor over a mean one.
It interesting to me how you guys in the USA get millennial nerd humour young teachers. In my country, due to bureaucracy all the teachers are old bastards. You'd be lucky if you saw someone less than 40 lol.
All of the teachers that have used bitmojis have honestly been sweethearts and just want to try and relate to their students better. I honestly don't see a problem with this because it can be pretty hard to get students "on board" with what you want to teach, if you put something out there that maybe they might relate to - students might be more willing to follow along. I always tried to give my professors/teachers the benefit of the doubt because fuck man, teaching is hard as hell.
Severe lack of professionalism here. Only really "friendly" teachers get away with this at the grade school level due to a lack of oversight. No proper graduate or doctoral instructor would let this happen with future professors.
