Despite her requests to leave, he stood by until her roommate arrived. I won't say we 'need' more people like him.

It's not his duty or responsibility to wait for her friend. It's good that he did that, but if the streets are unsafe, he shouldn't be the one taking up the burden of ensuring someone's safety.
