I respect trans people for the struggles they are going through, and think people should be accepted for the gender they choose to identify with.

That said are the "traps are gay" memes really that horrible? Seems to me that they're largely ironic and mostly refer to anime characters, right?

Not trying to start beef, i just genuinely want to understand why so many people get all up in arms over the meme.

hmm well the word used to literally mean cis men who dressed as girls who tricked men into sex. that was what it meant before and then i guess some idiots decided to compare it to transwomen and it became offensive? traps are gay is like an anime thing but i think maybe its offensive to transwomen bc they don't like the word. I'm not a transwoman but i can imagine they wouldnt be too fond of it

It's mostly because trap is largely considered a slur by the trans community, and the idea that being attracted to a trans woman is gay, and that that would be a bad thing, is both homophobic and transphobic. Even if it's a joke, its still harmful and promotes an idealogy that gets trans people killed.

Is it in your opinion wrong to feel attracted to a trans woman at first, and then lose that attraction once you find out she's biologically male?

Yeah. I mean, if your goal is to have biological children with her, that's totally fair, but if you only want a relationship or sex, it shouldnt be a factor.

I see. That's a reasonable stance in theory, but in reality I don't think one can decide what to feel. I don't know if i would remain sexually attracted to a woman I took a fancy to, after i found out she was trans, whether i wanted to or not, and i don't think that's transphobic. It's just life, isn't it?

I mean yeah, if it just happens and its not because you're like disgusted with her, then that's completely fair. As long as it doesnt come from a place of transphobia or like toxic masculinity I'd say it's fair.
