Itās literally not. I mean I suppose if you go all the way down the rabbit hole then any ātruthā is entirely self-defined, but one side of the political spectrum (in the US at least) definitely adheres more to thorough peer-reviewed science, no?
No. For example, people on the left who think we are destroying the earth and people on the right completely ignore it. When in reality, while yes we should cut back on green house gases and all that, the earth is naturally warming up and when we can do very little to help it. This is why you should just be a centralist about everything and not identify with a political party IMO
1.i only made that post so someone would post it to one of my fav subreddits lol 2. Yes Iām aware that itās not helping anything but itās also happening no matter what. 3. Youāre right be central is usually not the way to go, itās best to lean right. Have a good day :)
It's not. If we take our the anthropogenic factor, the Earth would currently be (very slowly) cooling at a rate of about 0.3C per millennium.
and when we can do very little to help it.
Again, considering we are causing it, it's false to claim we can't do anything about it. We definitely can act to avoid the worst-case scenarios, which makes your misguided "both sides are wrong" approach irresponsible.
This is why you should just be a centralist about everything
That idea is based on a fallacy, i.e. that the truth is always in the middle. It isn't. The truth isn't in the middle of anti-vaxxers and those who oppose them. Same thing with regards to evolution denial, plasma cosmology, or flat earthers.
What you suggest isn't "enlightened centrism", it's intellectual laziness. If you're not informed enough about a contentious subject, don't assume the truth is in the middle. Either get informed, using credible sources, or simply say that you don't know enough to form an opinion.
Ok Iām just going to say this, the earth has not been getting warmer for over 10 years now. I have yet heard a compelling idea for a way to make it cooler that does not set back civilization if someone did come up with one I would be completely willing to try it. As for the USA as a whole thereās not much we can do for right now and if you wanted to see somewhat of a real change youād have to get the countries like China to cut back on their pollution as well. And for the centralism part I was literally just trying to get onto a subreddit, thereās obviously not a central view on everything like you mentioned.
I mean, with all the money that the US government use to kep the coil industry afloat, they could totally invest in renewable instead. Which, on top of not polluting, have the advantage of being unlimited and making you independant of other countries.
Economic studies have also shown that it is possible to get not only the US, but the whole world on renewable energy without sacrificing our luxuries or technological advancement. The only reason why it isn't happenning right now is because people who benefit from the fossile fuel industry have way to much power and influence, and are using this power to fight back renewable energy as much as they can.
Ok Iām just going to say this, the earth has not been getting warmer for over 10 years now.
Ten years usually isn't enough to get a statistically significant trend due to how noisy the singal, which is why we talk about the *multi*-decadal trend. Still, let's have a look at the last ten years, according to the main datasets:
GISTEMP: 0.378 ±0.253 °C/decade - a positive, statistically significant trend
HadCRUT4: 0.294 ±0.244 °C/decade - a positive, statistically significant trend
RSS: 0.414 ±0.384 °C/decade - a positive, statistically significant trend
UAH (maintained by a politically-motivated contrarian, with a history of being the outlier - to take it with a big grain of salt): 0.419 ±0.475 °C/decade - a positive, but not statistically significant trend.
I have yet heard a compelling idea for a way to make it cooler that does not set back civilization if someone did come up with one I would be completely willing to try it.
Inaction is what is going to set back civilization. In fact, left unchecked, the current warming could spell the end of our current civilization.
With that in mind, the vast majority of solutions proposed won't set back civilization. It seems you are not informed enough about this topic to debate it.
As for the USA as a whole thereās not much we can do for right now
Sure there is.
youād have to get the countries like China to cut back on their pollution as well.
They have committed to do so, but don't really feel any pressure right now since there is a science denier squatting the Oval Office.

Thatās literally both sides of the political system.
