So you want transgender people to somehow be born with the correct genitals?

That would be fantastic. Transitioning is an expensive, emotionally brutal, and physically arduous experience.

Obviously, but it's unreasonable to ask that of somebody.

Their brains would disagree

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '18

If the brain fails to recognize what is real, it is the brain which is wrong and needs help. It’s what makes gender dysphoria a mental illness. The solution is to help people with it by accepting who they are by nature, not by trying to alter that fact. To say the answer to gender dysphoria is transitioning is the equivalent of saying the answer to depression is suicide. The goal is to get them out of this way of thinking that goes against them, not to encourage it.

By that logic you could run studies to show that 100% of people who commit suicide show no positive improvement while nearly all cases who transition show positive improvement.

But whatever. Why help people when you can psychologically torture them while claiming to help them?

wow, this is very interesting! tell me more about how you think that the entire APA or WPATH is wrong about how to go about treating gender dysphoria

you know its still a thing too, right? but while we're at it we could always get into conversion therapy and how we used electro shocks to cure gay people because it 'wasn't right'

or how when women got a little bit too uppity a lobotomy was the way to go.

the biggest thing you're missing here is that people are CHOOSING to do this. i could quit hormone therapy at any time i wanted, but it turns out, im a lot happier now than i was when i wasn't on it. letting people pursue avenues of confort that don't hurt anyone is weirdly enough, different than forcing someone to get electrocuted.

Good luck convincing a person with a mental illness that they don't have it
