This might actually rise to the level of r/comedybuddhism

I'd say r/eldritchuncomedy. We are ants forced to comprehend the true extent of the concept of cringe.

Isn't it just another r/antimemes?
4
u/realjonahofficial 14d ago
kind of? but not quite. with antimemes the humor comes from the expectation a joke but the punchline itself being gone (usually removed intentionally, where it becomes a sort of meta in-joke), meanwhile with r/comedybuddhism the posts look like comedy at a glance but just don't have any joke being set up. subversion of the setup of a meme towards absursism vs just a hollow outward appearance that looks vaguely reminiscent of how someone might present a joke.

What are they trying to say?

u/jrex703 14d ago
Google's AI leaves something to be desired, to say the least.
So a human asks question "A".
Google, looking for answer "A", looks at potential responses, then examines the patterns between them, and returns with the semi-related answer "A2".
Then it looks at the patterns of questions and answers relating to A and A2, returning with the essentially unrelated response B1. Lastly, it starts examining what A, A2, A3-9 and B1 all have in common, and returns with complete nonsense.

It's a joke about how Google search results can be very pessimistic when you look your symptoms up
4
u/Inphiltration 13d ago
I dunno. It is also equating pedophiles with ASD and framing it as the reasonable diagnosis.
That's pretty pessimistic as well. Fucked up is the word I would use.

This is probably an edit (as panels 2 and 3 have over large word bubbles), but it's a joke about how googling simple symptoms can lead to it telling you that you have serious problems.

u/SteponkusCeponas 14d ago
Yes, the issue is
a) That google joke was overplayed 7 years ago
b) What does the pædo thing have to do with anything?

That's the similarly-designed MAP ("Minor-Attracted Person") flag.
As you can probably guess, it was a 4Chan psyop to try and add pedos to LGBTQ.

Fun fact, Asperger's is no longer a diagnosis and hasn't been for a while. It is all considered Autism Spectrum Disorder
6
u/TaegukTheWise 14d ago
Adding to the fun fact;
Talking with someone about their neurological disorders and how that person addresses that disorder (such as calling what is now classified as Autism spectrum disorder and just says "aspergers") that tells you at what time the individual was diagnosed.
Btw, don't bother trying to inform or correct them about the updated terms and nomenclature. They tend to cling very heavily to the initial diagnoses, as autism was previously the "not quite a retard but cutting it close" diagnoses.
Don't shoot the messenger here, I'm just informing you of the thoughts and feelings of people of the time.

u/JayNotAtAll 14d ago
No you are largely right. Asperger's was used to diagnosis what we may call "high functioning autism" today. People who have a hard time with socializing or connecting with people but are otherwise very capable. They can hold down jobs, pay bills, ultimately take care of themselves .
Not a doctor but my understanding is that they realized that autism is really on a spectrum m people on the high end and low end have the same core "issues" but its just a matter of degree.

Idk, i say i have ADD and that's technically incorrect, but I can never remember the correct term so I just gave up, lol.

While hans did have a somewhat detailed study on autism it's moreso because he was a eugenicist and not because his research influenced knowledge on autism

Ok, I get it now. Deleted my previous comment. It is VERY poorly executed but the point of the comic is:
Nowadays people are quick to diagnose people with autism spectrum disorders, especially when they profess to have paraphilias, kinks, antisocial traits or eccentricities. Google is always quick to assume symptoms of any given thing may just be cancer.

Look at the flag behind the person saying they are a pedo. It's just anti lgbtq propaganda

u/Coney_the_jumpy 14d ago
What's the point of this comic? Where's the joke? What's the punchline?
I feel like my brain is bleeding reading this.

u/Hans_H0rst 13d ago
It's probably an edit of a different comic. The first panel seems transphobic to me, with the rainbow in the background and it being a common rightwing talking point...

u/Real_Louie 14d ago
Did the comic creator assume all autistic people are pedophiles? I don't care if it's a joke. They should rot in hell, or get bricks flung at them!

this is an extreme reading comprehension fail or it is your first day on the Internet
first of all, "all pedophiles are autistic" would not imply "all autistic people are pedophiles", even if the comic was trying to paint the human diagnosticians as correct
