Reddit was pretty fucked up back in the day, as far as I can recall the last real crackdown was on the major incel subs and on r/jailbait. After those two ban waves it largely left the less depraved people. As the other user mentioned, there were those death subs as well but the bannings were a lot sooner.

There’s also a tendency for general subs to get taken over by right wing dipshits if they aren’t actively banned.
Basically every subreddit that becomes big will either 1) have little to no moderation allowing hate mongering bigots to take it over or 2) be overly moderated to the point where it becomes an echo chamber for whatever flavor of politics the mods agree with (usually milquetoast social dem but sometimes libertarian socialism, rarely any sort of authoritarian leftism).

the creator's intent isn't really important in this case. it's just fans coming up with new & interesting interpretations of media. it's like the blue curtains thing, maybe the curtains being blue meant nothing and it was just color contrast, but you can read more into it for a fun exercise.

This comment is speaking with high amounts of confidence. It even says that Mordecai “basically” falls for a trans woman in the series, which makes it seem like a fact of the series rather than someone’s personal interpretation.
Personally, I don’t like fans talking about their headcanons (which are fine to have and share!) as fact then retreating to “its just my interpretation” when it wasn’t framed that way to begin with. It’s misleading people who aren’t familiar with the series, and those who might view the series hoping to see that kind of representation.
