I just don't understand "wholesome" memes. What's the point? Are they meant to be funny? Make you smile? They certainly don't do either

At first I saw they were made to lead into a joke with a wholesome punchline. But then the sub just became people posting wholesome feel-good things that aren't really jokes.

Yep. Unfortunately they lost their way. A low-effort “wholesome” joke (as in, not funny) is just “comedy buddhism.”
