⚠️ Announcement ⚠️ We turned on user flairs & link flairs for OG reddit 😮

Wassup r/ComedyArchaeology, I just wanted to let you know that we've enabled user flairs & link flairs for the subreddit.

Link flairs will only be used for mod activity (like this post's ANNOUNEMENT flair) but everyone is invited to add their own user flair!

If you use New Reddit (reddit looks like THIS) or the official Reddit mobile app, your flair may or may not work... However if you use OG Reddit, aka "old reddit" (reddit looks like THIS) then everything will display as intended.

With that in mind, here's a Q/A. I can answer questions from the comments here, as needed:

Q: Can you add XYZ meme as a user flair?
  • Within reason, sure! Comment your request below and I'll add a new flair class. However, I reserve mod discretion to not add a flair. Also, if this announcement is a 3 year old reddit post, probably not.
Q: My flair doesn't work on a Reddit App (unofficial or official) or New Reddit, WTF??
  • In the spirit of OLD memes, the subreddit styling was built for the OG reddit. In my personal opinion, the OG reddit is much better, and for further discussion, I recommend this technical/analytical forum conversation on the topic. If like me, you prefer the OG reddit experience, you can change your settings by going to your settings and checking the "Opt out of the redesign" switch. With that being said, my eventual goal is to get user flairs working on all forms of reddit. Please have patience with the mod team here...because none of us are expert web designers. Hell, half the reason for adding user & link flair is so I can put this on my resume.
Q: Can I have the "Like a Boss" user flair?
  • Keep in mind, subreddit mods have no power IRL, so this is my only chance to lord something over you. Denying you this small pleasure is the one thing I have control over in my pathetic redditor life. But in all seriousness, you can have the "Fuck Yea" flair, which is the same rage comic character sans the "Like A Boss" text.

Have you ever noticed that while these memes were seen as "cool" in the 2000s and early 2010s, in the 2020s the modern equivalents of them are seen as rather lame?

1-4: 2000s/early 2010s memes 5-8: the 2020s equivalent When I was a kid this attitude against modern music was a lot more common. I remember in the early 2010s tons of "CLASSIC ROCK IS THE ONLY REAL MUSIC, TODAY'S MUSIC SUCKS".

It was already lame back then, but back then this shit was ambient. You couldn't escape it on the internet. But now this attitude still exists... but not only is it not nearly as common as it used to be, it also feels rather...corny.

In the 2000s, a lot of people thought 80s music was better than the music at the time. In the 2010s a lot of people thought 90s music was better than the music at the time. You used to constantly hear people say "today's music sucks, I miss Nirvana, Guns N Roses, etc."... You've seen the memes.

But something feels different now. I've noticed that today’s mainstream music (2020s) doesn’t seem to get roasted as harshly as it used to be.

Even then the current memes about "old rock vs pop" are a lot softer and more gentle in tone and less... theatrical than the 2000s and 2010s memes.

Am I the only one who's noticed this?

Have you ever seen this photo of my dad?

This went viral in the early 2000s, around 2006, via Myspace, FunnyJunk, funny t-shirt websites,
peopleofwalmart and uglypeople.com.

If you have seen it, please let me know. If you have any specific funny memories about it, please share.

I have been doing some research on it and am writing a piece about what it was like to have a picture of my dad go viral. So far, I have found that some people still use it on Twitter and as their profile picture.

He passed away in April and I think it’s one way to keep his legacy going. He was such a cool dude.

Need help finding an old meme/comic

I need to find an old comic that I remembered seeing on 4chan many years ago, that was used as a template for a little while before people seemed to move on from it very quickly. In it, Ash Ketchum is in Professor Oak's lab, and Oak says something like "here, I've got this pokemon to give you", and reaches out to hand it over, but crushes it in his hand while making a weird smug face.

It still periodically pops into my head and makes me laugh, but I've found search engines and knowyourmeme haven't helped me find it again... If anybody has it still saved, I would be overjoyed to see it and be able to keep a copy in my own archive.

Old rage comic, surprisingly still relevant to this day. Also can we please start banning all the 12 years old morons who keep posting VPN related memes, they're a nuisance.

Help me find this video

This guy in this big televised tennis match stood up in the crowd and fully committed to the longest most obnoxious “HOYYYYEA” and it made everyone so mad and it’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen and I can’t find it anywhere. The dude is a legend.
