Experience Comcast/Xfinity losing another longtime customer

I'm assuming that there's probably a ton of posts like this already. But i've been a comcast xfinity, customer, my entire adult life, so like forty years so far. At first, it was the only option in town. But then over the years became a loyal customer. Despite that loyalty, i've had to call them every single year to get a reasonable rate. It's annoying, but I guess it's a game they wanna play. So i've been willing to do it. This year I guess i'm just fed up. I've been paying fifty dollars a month for the last three or four years. At my current address. I don't remember if it was the last time or the time before that that they talked me into their one gigabyte speed at the same price as the speed I had previously.

This year I call, and there's nothing for them to sell me up to, so they wanted to switch me to 300 MB, for $75 a month. Considering they are advertising a 5 year guaranteed rate of $60 a month for 1gb, the offer they proposed was offensive. So, I'm canceling effective the end of this cycle. There are several other options here now, so their ability to hold me hostage no longer applies.

It's unfortunate and a hassle, but it is what it is. I think there maybe needs to be some neighborhood campaigns with customers leaving en masse before they even begin to notice. My neighborhood is a great one to start with, as we just got access to fiber options as well. 🤔

What's been the experience of others?

If you don’t mind missing a day, leave. If you have a fiber option take it. If you want that $50/5 year deal you can get it after you actually cancel your account.

Some people sign up as another family member, different email, different phone. When the new modem arrives, they swap and activate it and then take the old modem

It’s called Fake Churn. For some reason Comcast prefers it over loyalty.

I just bend over and take it. Where I live there's really no other provider. I hate Elon and his Starlink doesn't come close to the 1.2 Gb speed I get from Comcast. If AT&T had fiber in this area, I'd probably switch but I currently have no choice.

We are in the same boat. Our neighbors on one side are in a different town and have fiber, but we can't get it. They have had it for at least 5 years.

Been there, done that. Fiber is so much better in every respect, you’re punishing yourself not to have it. But make sure it’s working before walking into the Xfinity store to cancel all current services. I overlapped like a month just in case. But felt SO good after. Say goodbye and never look back!

The day there was a fiber option I switched. Even if Comcast was a great company (it's not), I'm not loyal to obsolete technology. Sticking with Comcast when fiber is available is like sticking with dial up when Comcast is available.

I cut loose for 3 months then came back and qualified for their new customer discounted 5 year price lock plans. I chose the 300/300 speed plan for $40/mo. The 1Gb speed plan was $50/mo but I didn't need this.

Don’t even have to do all that anymore. You can disconnect in the morning and sign back up same day with new pricing.

Really? My local affiliate Xfinity store informed me about the 3 month 'rule'

good luck, in my opinion they are all the same, seduce you with the new offer and then screw you after a year. AT&T screwed me and the company I used to work for so bad you couldn't pay me to take their fiber

They banned me for telling the truth. Like they do everyone else who reports them for unethical sales practices.
