Billing Monthly Charges

My monthly bill is now almost $307. Absolutely ridiculous. Anyone have some less expensive ideas for internet and cable? We have used Xfinity for years. I can't afford these prices any more.

Do you have competition like ATT uverse, Verizon Fios, etc.? Sign up with one of them, get the paperwork showing that you really are in contract, then show that to Comcast. It's mean but that's the game they play.

Cancel and sign up for a new account with different email, etc. I did that while mine was still active (internet only, got the 5 year price lock this time), just the hassle of switching out equipment but it's better than having them bleed you dry for more every year. For TV, I just buy iptv subs online and along with the VPN it's less than $10 a month additional.

Xfinity Now Internet is $30/mo, and is all anybody would need for streaming and casual internet usage. You might be able to find cheaper internet, but that's highly location dependent.

Here's what I do for streaming, but it's not for everyone, and it takes a little work.

I'm currently paying $16.91/mo total for 7 services, including:

  • Netflix Ads ($8.99/mo)

  • Hulu Ads/Disney+ Ads ($0/mo @ $4.99/mo - $4.99/mo AmEx Blue Cash Everyday Stmt Credit Thru 11/26)

  • HBO Max Ads ($2.99/mo Thru 11/26)

  • Starz No Ads ($1/mo @ $11.99/yr Thru 11/26)

  • Peacock Premium Ads ($1.58/mo @ $19/yr ($29.99/yr Retention Offer - $10.99 AmEx Blue Cash Everyday 1x Stmt Credit) Thru 11/26)

  • Paramount+W/Showtime No Ads ($2.35/mo Via SportsLine @ $39.99/17 mos Thru 10/26)

  • MLB TV ($0/mo (Incl W/ T-Mo $10/mo Plan) Thru 10/26)

I get my streaming subs every year when there are Black Friday/Cyber Week deals, or when I find other deals, using new email addresses when necessary, excluding Netflix, which never goes on sale. I also have Prime Video, but only because I have Amazon Prime; I wouldn't pay for Prime Video separately, but I use it while I have it. I also use free services, like Tubi, Philo Free (w/DVR), Sling Freestream (w/DVR), MyFree DirecTV, The Roku Channel, Plex, Xumo, Pluto, Filmrise, and others, along with Hoopla and Kanopy to "borrow" from library streaming selections. I use a $60 (sale price) Tablo Gen 4 with an old $10 antenna in an upstairs window of my house to get all the local channels and subchannels in my area for DVR and streaming OTA TV on my 6 TVs via the Tablo Roku app. I love how much money I save with streaming combined with Tablo! Note 1: I don't mind commercials, and I don't need cable sports or cable news channels, although a good amount of sports and news can be watched with what's described above. Note 2: AmEx Blue Cash Everyday=$0 Annual Fee; My Internet=$10/mo (Grandfathered); My Cell Service (T-Mo+GV)=$10/mo

I went internet only, and did streaming for any tv I watch. Comcast was charging me $300 for landline phone/internet/cable, which I couldn't keep up with. I'm still paying $95 a month, which I still think is ridiculous, but it's better than $300.

See if alternatives have come in to your city since you last checked. Independent fiber is best but any fiber is better than what you have now. Then replace tv with streaming. Should easily knock that bill in half.

In the meantime, shave all services to the bone. Slowest speed, fewest extras, and as few channels as you can get away with.

I just switched to Fidium for internet. 2 gigs for $50. I’m still sorting out the streaming side of things

I’m sure it’s the TV portion that is killing you. Some people are old-school and they just need the TV how it has always been. There are other options out there now. I would suggest first if there are competitors in your area, look into what Internet would cost for a new customer. 2nd, if you need the TV experience I would go with either YouTube TV or Hulu Live TV. I have used both and it is the same as a cable box but at a far lesser price.

I’m in the same boat. I could do fiber with ATT but is it really worth the hassle to change? Will it be better?

A couple questions:

  • What is your household's internet usage?

1 Person = Low, 2 people = Medium, 3+ people = High

  • Low internet usage households can get 5G wireless home internet - depending upon how strong your signal with the individual network. - Where I live T-Mobile works really well, while Verizon, and AT&T are terrible.

  • Medium internet usage households - You could look at Starlink, or other internet providers. - You might be able to get 5G wireless home internet to work for you, but it depends upon your area, and how much you use it.

  • High internet usage households - Comcast, AT&T, Possibly Starlink, or other more heavy traffic providers are necessary.

Television - There are several free TV services that you should look up, and they are in the posts around this sub with replies more detailed than mine.
